21.01.2022 Dugite (Pseudonaja a. affinis) Seeing that a lot of people often ask about the fang size of a Dugite and could they penetrate jeans, pants ect I thought it wo...uld be a great idea to show a shot displaying the fang of a Dugite. The fangs on a Dugite are only around the 1.5mm mark so a lot smaller than the huge 20mm plus viperidae members fangs that most people imagine when think snake fangs, while these small Dugite fangs can easily pierce the skin they are unlikely to get through a thick pair of jeans or work pants so it just proves just how important the appropriate selection of leg wear is around the garden and on the bush trails in snake season! Always be aware and remember they will not chase you but if trodden on, accidentally stumbled across at close range or cornered they will act to defend themselves. October to April is the most active time for Dugite’s so be safe, aware and always call to have one relocated not harmed, they are beautiful creatures none the less. And remember a striking snake is a defensive snake full of fear, not an aggressive animal going out of its way to harm people, just give it some space and it will always head the other way. #teamwildlifeml #snakesrule

19.01.2022 ~SHARED~ (please read) Shared from a doctor friend working in Infectious Diseases in Western Australia. In her words... As most of you know, I dont post o...n Facebook often, but I need you to read this article. I have been a doctor on the infectious diseases team this week, and many people have asked me the same questions about corona virus, and this is what Ive been telling them: we need to be prepared and wary, but not alarmed. The media has been very sensationalist and has a lot to answer for, including my inability to find toilet paper. The covid-19 virus is coming to Australia, and in most places it is already here. For 80% of people who get it, you will develop mild cold symptoms. Whats the big deal then? Why are we talking about closing schools and cancelling events and sports? Cancelling large gatherings will slow the spread of the virus, so hospitals are not overwhelmed. Im a doctor and I dont want to have to tell you that we cant treat your mum because weve run out of oxygen. I dont want to call you to tell you that your dad died in a corridor, because we didnt have enough beds. This is what Northern Italy is experiencing right now, and they have one of the best healthcare systems in the world. This is what areas of the US are currently experiencing. They are having to choose which patients live and which ones die. China had to build 16 new hospitals in a few weeks for a city with the same population as Australia, and they still ran out of resources. They had to fly in builders, cleaners, kitchen staff, nurses and doctors from all around China to have enough staff. We dont have this ability; it took 4 years to build the Perth Childrens Hospital. If we can slow it down, so there are enough resources and staff to treat everyone that gets sick, less people will die. A lot less. So yes, most people will develop mild symptoms, but upto 20% may need hospitalisation. Thats 1 in 5 people, and if this amount of people need hospital admission suddenly, like in Italy, China and America, our world class Australian healthcare system is going to struggle, and people will not be able to get the care they need, and they will die. In regards to closing schools, children in particular seem to not develop many or any symptoms. They can then pass it on to other children and teachers, who will then take it home to their families, and potentially give it to grandparents. Older people and people with other medical conditions such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease, lung disease and high blood pressure are particularly at risk of dying from covid-19. People over the age of 80 may have a mortality rate of upto 14%. You dont want your grandma to get it, if we can avoid it. You dont want to accidently infect youre childs best friends mum, who is battling breast cancer, if we can avoid it. Your friend from book club or the mens shed takes medications to suppress their immune system to treat an autoimmune disease, so you dont want them to get it if we can avoid it. If you are asked to self isolate, please stay at home the whole time. Dont just duck to the shops because Ill only be there for 5 minutes, it wont hurt anyone. It does and it will. When the lockdown in Italy started, people in Italy were still going to the gym, to cafes and other places in public. Look where they are now: the whole country is in lockdown and funerals are banned. They cant even grieve their dead. Isolating yourself when asked to is a sign of altruism. Going out when youve been asked not to is essentially saying that your short term pleasure/job etc. is more important than someone elses life. You might not feel sick enough to want to stay home, but if you dont someone else could die. Or multiple people. On average one person with corona virus infects 2-3 others, but one person in Korea infected hundreds accidently before they were found and isolated. I want you and your family to get the best care possible, in one of the best health care systems in the world. But we cant do this without everyone getting involved. Please read this article. Start preparing. Start physically distancing yourself from other people by more than 1 metre. Please stop handshaking, hugging or kissing people on the cheek. Please frequently wash your hands with alcohol hand rub or soap and water for 20 seconds. Notice and reduce the amount you touch your face. Please read this article. Singapore and Hong Kong have contained the virus by using the measures mentioned in the article. We can too, but we need everyone to pull together. Please stay home if you unwell, even if you only have a mild cold, please only take what you need from the supermarket, and please just be kind. If we do this together, the impacts of the corona virus will be much less, and a lot more people will live.

11.01.2022 Im an intensive care specialist in a small city. Coronavirus isnt just like the flu, but its only really very dangerous to the elderly or the already unwell.... Quite a lot of people in their 80s will die, but most of the rest of us will probably be okay. If youre in your 70s and you get Coronavirus, youve got a really good chance of survival. If Ive got a bed for you. If youre in your 60s and you have a heart attack, youve got a really good chance of survival. If Ive got a bed for you. If youre in your 50s and need bowel cancer surgery, youve got a really good chance of survival. If Ive got a bed for you. If youre in your 40s and have a bad car accident, youve got a really good chance of survival. If Ive got a bed for you. If youre in your 30s and have terrible pre-eclampsia as a complication of pregnancy, youve got a really good chance of survival. If Ive got a bed for you. If youre in your 20s and have a bad reaction to a party drug, youve got a really good chance of survival. If Ive got a bed for you. I have 7 beds equipped with life support machines. We have a plan to increase to about 25. Getting more isnt a matter or more equipment or more money, that bit is easy. There are not enough skilled staff, even if we all work double shifts every day for six months (and we probably will). If 50% of my city gets infected, thats 75,000 people. If 5% of them need life support (which is the estimate), thats 3750 people. For 25 beds. And then I might not have a bed for you. So its up to you to flatten the curve. Wash your hands. Stay home. 10.01.2022 Demonstrations outside abortion services act as a barrier to accessing legal health services and cause distress and anxiety to patients and staff. But Western A...ustralian women have a right to access legal medical services without fear of intimidation or harassment. Thats why we are drafting important legislation to establish safe access zones around premises that provide abortion services in Western Australia. The 150m buffer zones will help to protect and respect the safety, dignity, privacy and wellbeing of individuals seeking access to these legal medical services. It will also support the workers and healthcare providers that operate on these premises. The legislation is the result of significant community consultation on the issue last year. The consultation received an extraordinary level of community and industry engagement, with strong support for the introduction of safe access zones.

09.01.2022 We want to give families peace of mind, knowing their puppy does not come from poor, inadequate and inhumane conditions. Thats why today were introducing legi...slation to stop puppy farming in Western Australia. It was a key election commitment and after consulting with community and key stakeholders - were getting it done. Its the right thing to do. Well help pet shops transition into puppy and dog adoption centres - finding homes for unloved and abandoned dogs. Well create a central dog registration system which will help identify dodgy or illegal breeders. Well require all dogs are desexed by two years of age, unless exempt. Reducing excessive and illegal breeding. Well stop the overbreeding of dogs and help identify who is breeding so they can be monitored. My Government is committed to animal welfare and promoting responsible dog ownership. Ensuring our dogs are healthy and happy is the least we can do to thank them for their devotion and service.

04.01.2022 At 9:30am on October 14, 1997, Gerard and his brother left their accommodation in Rockingham, intending to visit a comic store at a local shopping centre. His b...rother, who was on rollerblades, skated ahead on Kent Street having agreed to meet Gerard at the store. He never made it to the store. At the time of Gerard’s disappearance, I was a newly-elected Member of Parliament, living in Safety Bay. My main memories were just how shocking and traumatic Gerard’s disappearance was for the local community. There was a sense of shock that something like that could happen in Rockingham. It was a very sad time and it was hard to find the words to say to the people affected, other than offering support. Like everyone, I wanted to know what I could do to help. Gerard’s disappearance had a big impact on the community and I’m sure it still does for those who lived in Rockingham at the time. I did feel proud about the support the community gave to Gerard’s family. Personally, I still think of it quite often, particularly when I walk down those same streets. Today Gerard should be a young man, perhaps with a family of his own. He was robbed of that future and his parents were robbed of that future. I know the police worked extremely hard to solve the case and I have a great deal of respect and admiration for the work they did. I know that our police will never give up on pursuing justice for Gerard. I hope that with this added incentive, an historic $1 million reward for help in solving the Gerard Ross case, we can come closer to solving the murder. If you have any information which can assist police. Contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
