21.01.2022 David Attenborough: "I WOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN A NATURALIST UNDER TODAY's FOSSIL LAWS!" Sir David Attenborough said laws which stop the collecting of fossils are ...a disaster waiting to happen' for the future of British naturalists. Britain is losing generations of young naturalists because of laws banning children from collecting fossils, according to Sir David Attenborough. The broadcaster said he would never have been able to pursue his interest in wildlife if current legislation had been in place when he was a boy. Fossilcollecting is banned at Sites of Special Scientific Interest and is covered by numerous other guidelines. Speaking to Radio Times, Sir David, 86, said few children now ventured out to explore the natural world. He agreed that the situation was "a disaster in waiting". He said: "Part of the reason for that is easy to identify, and that is because it's no longer allowed no longer legal to be a collector. "I openly admit that I collected fossils!" "And I learnt a lot from that. Now, I think it's in the ledger of law, if you were to pick up an ordinary pebble and put it in your pocket it would probably not be legal. "And not to be allowed to collect fossils...it's absurd. It's allowed to cut fossils in building blocks or grind to cement, it's allowed to sell fossils when quarry crushers grind fossiliferous rocks to dust... It's not allowed to collect fossils or trade, although nature itself destroys many fossils in "sites of special scientific interest" by erosion. Scientific research was stoped by law!" His comments were supported by Chris Packham, a fellow BBC nature presenter, who said: "I can't believe that future generations will learn their trade on television, on the internet and in libraries, because the passion has to come from the heart. "You've got to want to set your alarm clock to go out and sit in a hide. Young people in particular are so disconnected from the natural world. "I wouldn't reprimand a young boy that I found climbing to a nest these days. I'd give him a bunk up into the tree." Speaking on the BBC Radio 5's today prgramme Mr Packham added: "There are absolutly no young people enjoying our coutryisde. I feared we have turned out ocuntryisde into a dark and dangerous place for children. They don't engage with nature. They aren't picking up fossils, watching fox cubs in the early morning..." "I would rather spend 10 minutes with a woodlouse in my hand than watching a tiger on TV." "You've struggled through the brambles and waitied for hours and it ignites a lifetime of interest."... 14.01.2022 It’s been a busy month or so at Crystal World, visitors from USA, Hong Kong, China West Aust as well as cutting new Météorites for the Museum Victoria. I been ...traveling for the last few months so I’m rarely there to take pictures. I took the Twins to canberra to the National Dinosaur museum where we all slept to the galleries for one night. Lots of new fossils and Australian minerals have been prepared for sale. A quick trip Into the outback with Andrew. I’m off today after 4 days at home back to China for two weeks. See more

14.01.2022 It’s been 30 days . Thirty days since I joined the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology (SVP). I felt I should join as I was attending the yearly conference in... Brisbane as a Director of the National Dinosaur Museum in Canberra . In principle I agree with the aims of the society though I was aware of controversy of the commercialisation of fossils. Upon finalising my online application I had to agree with a statement that made no sense; Vertebrate fossils are rare For those non academic readers , vertebrate fossils are fossils with back bones. While certainly some vertebrate fossils are very rare, many are extremely common. Fossil fish around the world can be found in the millions. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_River_Formation Similar in Lebanon, as well as Germany and China. Eocene and Miocene vertebrate fauna’s containing megafauna ( giant mammals ) are extremely abundant. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megafauna Giant Triassic marine reptiles Ichthyosaurs are found in UK ( original by Mary Anning She sells sea shells by the sea shore fame ), Germany and China where millions of fossils specimens are believed to buried http://english.ivpp.cas.cn//201/P020101207391458028112.pdf Millions shark teeth are found in Morocco, along with hundred and thousands of giant Mosasaurs https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mosasaur Dinosaur bones and skeletons are very common is some countries with massive extensive bones bed deposits. Though in some countries like Australia they very rare. https://www.nps.gov/dino/index.htm Dinosaur eggs are commonly found around the world . I have personally visited deposits in China where millions are believed to exist, Oddly enough Dinosaur eggs are trace fossils, not vertebrate fossils unless they actually contain embryos. So why does the SVP force 2,500 members to agree to a lie? How can a scientific organisation be allowed to perpetuate a statement that is basically untrue. This is why the general public no longer trust academics. It suits the SVP to promote incorrect information. As to why they don’t approve of selling fossils or private collectors owning them or even a child buying a shark tooth from a shop . This is crazy and my monthly posts will discuss this issue as well. https://en.m.wikipedia.org//Society_of_Vertebrate_Paleonto

01.01.2022 I’m in Canberra to do a maintenance check on the National Dinosaur Museum. Surprisingly it’s the best is has looked for a long time, with lots of upgrades in b...oth the shop and garden area . I am also planning for the arrival of a new animatronic dinosaur due to arrive in the next few weeks. Watch my page for updates. We are now the best natural history museum shop in world, based on what I have personally seen. The range of gems, crystals and fossils is outstanding, as well as the range of dinosaur toys , t shirts and general merchandise. So far it’s been 4 interstate flights in the last 5 days . Back home Monday for a brief visit. With fellow directors Jeno Kapitany, Martin Rowe, Kathleen Michael , Chris Michael. Hank Ebes See more
