23.01.2022 CSIRO Staff Association secretary Sam Popovski estimates between 170 and 200 positions will be lost due to the restriction... He said the main way the agency had been trying to meet the cap was to review the term contract or casual positions to determine which ones would not be renewed. "Its more cost-effective than redundancies," Mr Popovski said.

23.01.2022 CSIRO staffing cap challenged at Fair Work Commission. Meanwhile, Staff Association delegates and members in Newcastle have highlighted the impact of the cap during a meeting with Shadow Science Minister Brendan OConnor and Newcastle MP Sharon Claydon http://cpsu-csiro.org.au//csiro-staffing-cap-challenged-a/ #scrapthecap #csiro

21.01.2022 LAST CHANCE! CSIRO Executives snap bargaining survey closes today at 5pm (AEDT) Wednesday 23 October. VOTE NO Dont risk a determination at CSIRO. Support bargaining for a new agreement!

20.01.2022 The latest CSIRO employment data isnt pretty, with total job numbers on course to contract by 10 per cent over the past twelve months. Close to 600 positions will go this FY while labour-hire and outsourced employment will increase dramatically. More here https://csirostaff.org.au//staffing-numbers-deteriorate-a/

20.01.2022 The Staff Association supports CSIRO’s approach and in particular the development of specific Covid safety measures and planning at each site. This is an initiative that Staff Association representatives have been advocating, while working with CSIRO’s Situation Management Team (SMT) over recent months.

20.01.2022 Are you receiving the right Super? CSIRO staff can receive 15.4% superannuation contributions as part of remuneration. Unfortunately, many people starting work at CSIRO are not properly informed that staff only receive 15.4% if they choose to join the PSSap superannuation fund. Staff whose superannuation contributions go into other funds only receive 9.5%. Thats a 5.9% difference in your remuneration! Check your payslip and contact the Staff Association if youre in this si...tuation. More here http://cpsu-csiro.org.au//are-you-receiving-the-right-sup/

20.01.2022 While its been a battle just to even get to the table, theres a big year ahead for bargaining at CSIRO https://cpsu-csiro.org.au//a-big-year-ahead-for-bargainin/ #CSIRO #science #ausunions

19.01.2022 Increased instances of community transmission of COVID-19 has prompted CSIRO to adjust the organisation’s return to sites plan. Meanwhile, an expert panel has outlined the contribution of CSIRO research to the vaccine program.

18.01.2022 The announcement of this scheduled upgrade of this critical scientific infrastructure is welcome and could not have come at a better time, CSIRO Staff Association Secretary Sam Popovski said. The announcement of an additional $10 million in research funding to support potential vaccine testing will help assist the global effort to resist the coronavirus pandemic." #CSIRO #COVID19

18.01.2022 CSIRO Executives efforts to relieve staffing cap pressures remain under wraps, with senior management refusing to support a Staff Association initiative to make a formal application for an Average Staffing Level (ASL) exemption. 18.01.2022 CSIRO Chief Scientist Cathy Foley used a lecture sponsored by the Australian Senate earlier this year to make the case for government laboratories and publicly funded research agencies. 18.01.2022 Women must be safe at work. The recent weeks have been distressing for many. We know sexual harassment and gendered violence are rife across all industries, an...d our current laws are failing to keep workers safe. The Morrison Government must act immediately to #AdoptThe55 recommendations of the Sex Discrimination Commissioner's Respect@Work Report - released one year ago to the day! Today, you can take 3 simple steps to call on the Morrison Government to act immediately... 1. Download the poster from http://bit.ly/AdoptThe55 2. Take a selfie holding the sign 3. 17.01.2022 CSIRO has commenced the first stage of testing potential vaccines for COVID-19. The testing, expected to take three months, is underway at the Australian Animal Health Laboratory in Geelong. #CSIRO #COVID19 #coronavirus #coronavirusaus

17.01.2022 More detail on CSIRO Energy job cuts. Bad news for informed policy debate and decision making.

16.01.2022 The decision by the Federal Government to impose a six-month wage freeze is very disappointing, especially recognising the recent work CSIRO staff have contributed to the summer bushfires and coronavirus crisis response, said CSIRO Staff Association Secretary Sam Popovski.

16.01.2022 A not-so-beautiful set of numbers

16.01.2022 ICYMI - The Federal Government has thrown CSIRO a lifeline with $459.2 million of additional funding as the organisation's external earnings are now expected to plummet due to Covid-19.

16.01.2022 Staff Association Secretary Sam Popovski reflects on a year that featured growing climate concerns, science integrity headaches, a federal election, staffing cap restrictions and a battle to make it to the bargaining table. Of the 61 per cent of staff that participated in the poll, an overwhelming majority of 97 per cent voted yes to endorse the new agreement. Watch a short video from Sam Popovski thanking members and welcoming the new EA https://youtu.be/ksXvKF1Pk4o

14.01.2022 These cuts are unwise and damaging

11.01.2022 The new CSIRO Enterprise Agreement has been approved by the Fair Work Commission. While staff must wait six months for a salary bump - due to the Government's wage freeze - Chief Executive Larry Marshall is set to bank a big bonus.

11.01.2022 The new enterprise agreement was delivered on time and secures CSIRO working conditions until the end of 2023. Thanks to Staff Association members, delegates and bargaining representatives for the dedication and hard work that have made this achievement possible

11.01.2022 Today, members at Clayton embraced the diversity of our membership by celebrating Luna New Year! We wish all our members a happy year of the rat and hope everyone has a fortunate and prosperous year!

11.01.2022 The Staff Association - especially through the work of delegates - has been busy supporting members in Energy, Ag & Food and HSE; by mitigating jobs losses and protecting entitlements through redundancy and relocation processes.

11.01.2022 Larry Marshalls comments about CSIRO Postdocs have not gone down well watch this short clip and judge for yourself https://youtu.be/WSUCzvFeZ54 #CSIRO #ASLcap #scrapthecap #postdocs

11.01.2022 Recent comments likening CSIRO postdocs to "interns" and "kids" have not gone down well, to say the least.. https://cpsu-csiro.org.au//csiro-postdocs-deserve-greater/ #postdocs #EMCR #CSIRO #respect

10.01.2022 Our Association welcomes this critical debate on Four Corners tonight on science funding in our country. We can no longer have what weve seen at CSIRO: years of neglect and cuts followed by a few months of panic and importance. Australias interests are best served by long term sustained funding of CSIRO. In 2014, eight positions in biosecurity research at CSIROs Geelong lab were lost after the Abbott government cut $111 million from the organisation. The director of the Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness, Trevor Drew, told Four Corners those cuts affected the research capacity of the facility. http://www.abc.net.au//coronavirus-vaccine-panic-/12312504

09.01.2022 An Enterprise Agreement vote is likely to occur in late July or early August according to CSIRO management; following a period of consideration of the proposal by all staff.

07.01.2022 The story of the CSIRO scientist who predicted the bushfire emergency four decades ago #csiro #bushfires #climatescience https://cpsu-csiro.org.au//the-scientist-who-predicted-th/

07.01.2022 "There is no doubt that these cuts will have an enduring impact on the national capability to develop and implement energy and climate policy. At a time when the government should be focussed on the future of our energy needs, they are more concerned with cutting jobs," CPSU National Secretary Melissa Donnelly said.

07.01.2022 "Our science clearly shows that, due to increasing greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, in the atmosphere, Australia's climate is continuing to warm, and the frequency of extreme events such as bushfires, droughts, and marine heatwaves is growing," CSIRO's Climate Science Centre Director Dr Jaci Brown said.

05.01.2022 Govt pay freeze will hit CSIRO employees #CSIRO #payfreeze #COVID19

04.01.2022 The CSIRO Staff Association is here when you need us the most. Our COVID-19 information page is regularly updated and contains vital information on working from home, leave arrangements, key contacts and much more: https://cpsu-csiro.org.au/resour/covid-19-information-page/

04.01.2022 Beers findings in 1987, published in 1988 as Australian bushfire danger under changing climatic regimes, became the first study in the world to ask what climate change was going to mean for wildfires. It seems obvious, but actually we found the correlation was not temperature and fires, but relative humidity and fires. Temperature goes up, it gets drier, and then the fires go up, says Beer.

04.01.2022 So far CSIRO has been rightly praised for the quality of the workforce response to coronavirus. However, senior management must beware the problems posed by complacency.

02.01.2022 Over the next fortnight, the union will be consulting with all members via video conference meetings, to get feedback on the overall proposal and specific issues. An online poll will enable members to direct Staff Association representatives in the next steps in the bargaining process.

02.01.2022 CSIRO Chief Larry Marshall is under pressure respond to staffing cap restrictions at CSIRO with recent scrutiny at Senate Estimates soon to be followed with a date at the Fair Work Commission #CSIRO #ASLcap #scrapthecap

02.01.2022 The test for the Government’s industrial relations legislation must be whether is leaves workers worse off and unfortunately on critical issues it does, CPSU National Secretary Melissa Donnelly said.

01.01.2022 Deadline looms for CSIRO Chief Marshall to act on Govt staffing cap https://cpsu-csiro.org.au//deadline-looms-for-marshall-to/ #CSIRO #ASL #scrapthecap #science

01.01.2022 An arbitrary government staffing cap is putting a handbrake on the critically important work of CSIROs flagship Energy Centre in Newcastle. Today I was proud t...o stand in solidarity with the CSIRO Staff Association and Labors Shadow Minister for Industry and Employment and Science, Brendan OConnor MP. We condemned this innovation-destroying policy and called on the Morrison Government to put an end to its senseless war on science once and for all!

01.01.2022 The Federal Government has changed its tune on staffing cap restrictions in the public sector and outlined the process for organisations to follow for consideration of an exemption. So what does CSIRO need to do? https://cpsu-csiro.org.au//government-shifts-rhetoric-on-/ #CSIRO #ASLcap #scrapthecap
