21.01.2022 Spread the word of this big event, be great to see heaps of Old Boars there!!

18.01.2022 With the passing of Phil "the Giant" Rava (see earlier post) we look back on a story from our book Pig Tales..... The Phil Rava Affair All clubs have their lege...nds the Pigs have Phil Rava The Giant Phil drank like a fish in salt water, smoked a few, but we never saw Phil eat yet he was a giant of a man with the potential to be huge. Phil has now well and truly fulfilled all of that potential. The Giant could play a bit but in his own mind he did not believe that he was all that great. Actually the Giant lived in his own mind and pretty much did his own thing. Operating to his own timetable the Giant was generally nocturnal. This created a problem on game day, as did his lack of serious training. When it came to turning up to games late Phil was a serial offender. He rarely made it into the change rooms before games so he rarely signed the team sheet. Against Boree Creek in 1981 as Phil was coming off the ground at the end of seconds, the first grade coach, Wayne Fox (The wrong Wayne Fox- another story) told Phil to sit on the bench for first grade. This was not new to Phil, he often played both grades. Definitely not because of his fitness. It was more to do with his gigantic size and as he always turned up late for seconds he didn’t get a hell of a lot of game time in the twos, so didn’t exhaust himself. Due to the lack of numbers the Giant often sat on the bench for first grade. He would give the number one ruckman a short rest now and then. Or as Phil put it I’d have a run between ciggies and it kept me off the piss til 5 o’clock So Phil checks with the Boree Creek official and asks for the team sheet so he can sign it. The official does not get back to Phil Pigs win the game Remembering Phil’s request from before the game the Boree Creek official takes Phil’s new found commitment to signing the team sheet and in the spirit of good country footy turns it into a report. There was an inquiry at which the Pigs pointed out that a Boree Creek player had also failed to sign the team sheet, Boree Creek did not challenge this but were awarded the points. The Pigs appealed but it was thrown out. The Pigs lost the 4 points and percentage. The points and percentage were awarded to Boree Creek. The Pigs also lost the points in reserve grade that day. WHY? Because Phil Rava had not signed that team sheet either. A bad day for the Pigs, we had two gutsy wins and lost 8 points The Pigs narrowly missed the finals.

09.01.2022 Neale Daniher and the Fight MND team have been working hard to raise awareness and money for the MND cause. On Saturday a huge event was held in Ungarie with t...he unveiling of the Big Footy and a game of footy between the Danihers and the Rest of the World. On Sunday, a number of cyclists headed off from Ungarie in the PEDALCURE 4 MND ride https://teampedalcure.wixsite.com/pedalcure4mnd. They will cycle over 8 days & 700kms to finish in Melbourne at Windy Hill. This is a mammoth commitment in cycling terms. Part of that team is Pig legend and life member, Craig Fletcher and his son David, who are pictured at Ungarie before the ride. The ride has raised over $80K to date and if you’d like to support Fleshy & David with a donation (tax deductible) you can donate at https://give.everydayhero.com/au/craig-76. All donations are greatly appreciated. Best of luck to Craig & David on the ride CTFP!
