18.01.2022 Not sure if others are aware of the significance of these clockmakers. Andrew, Owen, and their team restore and rebuild some of the most significant clocks in Australia. For Sydney siders, the Central and Town Hall clocks were restored and rebuilt by these guys. ... They make and have been making components for many years and keep so much history alive. 15.01.2022 I have always liked these pictures showing the comparison between a higher priced repair and a cheaper lesser priced one, however ... the watchbreakers have caught up. Unfortunately, you can no longer rely on prices to dictate the good repairer from the bad one. I have seen many poorly skilled repairers charge the same price as highly skilled repairers, to give the illusion of being better skilled and offering an equal service. To take the edge off my message a little and... soften the blow, it is usually through pure ignorance that these people end up charging a lot. As the saying goes, a little knowledge is dangerous and these people usually think they’re actually good... so, what can you say to that So here’s some advice: do a bit shopping around and research. Keep the following questions in mind: is this repairer trained? Where did they complete their training and when? Have they done any courses since? Do they partake in regular personal development? What is their reputation like, not only based on google reviews, but personal experience? What do I want out of my repairer? Are they associated with a service centre or a particular brand? Do your own research as to what is required to be a good repairer: tools required, skills, habits etc. and see if your repairer has these. Or, don’t I just thought I’d put it out there for anyone that sees this picture as it always makes me think twice.
