23.01.2022 New Resources: Reframing Adolescence and Adolescent Development Frame Works Institute - How we say things is as important as what we say, especially when we are trying to change thinking and policy to better serve children, young people and families. This toolkit is a resource for communicators who want to change the narrative about adolescence and adolescent development. We should use this Core Story as often as possible in all public facing materials. It includes all of the well-framed information people need to understand, to support and even to demand policies that would improve the lives of all adolescents.

13.01.2022 To prevent youth mental health problems, suicide, and family violence following the pandemic, Australia should follow Russia's example and increase the legal age for purchasing alcohol to 21. http://21bethere.blogspot.com//new-plans-to-raise-mlpa-min

12.01.2022 While many people said they drank more during the pandemic, others actually drank less, mainly because socialising at clubs, pubs and parties wasn't possible.

11.01.2022 Children’s wellbeing and mental health are likely to decline as a result of lockdowns, school closures, strains on family relationships, and economic uncertainty. To minimise the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis, governments must provide effective support that minimises inequalities amongst children. (Murdoch Children's Research Institute )

09.01.2022 #CommunitiesThatCare #Knox has been busy! Coordinator Deb Cocks shares insight in their latest work in monitoring alcohol sales in sports clubs - in Knox, "...recent research shows that while some staff and volunteers are complying with the law, others clubs need to be more vigilant in their responsible service of alcohol. Their care for young people is important and ensuring young people are supported to make positive healthy decisions by creating a protective club environment, especially when it comes to alcohol, is priceless

07.01.2022 Youth homelessness is increasing. Our research identified ineffective schools as a preventable contributor both in Australia and the USA. In a large cross-national longitudinal study, students that experienced school suspension had a 176% increased probability of homelessness as young adults, after adjusting for other causes. Experiencing academic failure further increased the probability. Don't put up with homelessness - demand effective schools. https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11121-020-01092-9

03.01.2022 GCI held the second CREATE online seminar on 1 July 2020. The natural fluctuations that occur in communities and #communitycoalitions underline the importance of establishing a routine process for all partners to engage in regular reflection about #coalitionwellbeing and functioning. Self-review can be a powerful catalyst for growth and achieving shared goals. Collecting information that promotes reflection forms a core part of a continuous learning and improvement cycle an...d can help coalition members strengthen the way they work together to enhance outcomes for their community. The Coalition Wellbeing Survey was developed as a tool for use by community coalitions to review their collective practices in a systematic and replicable way. It helps coalitions gather reliable data on factors that are known to underpin successful collaborative initiatives. Within the CREATE-ing Pathways to Child Wellbeing Project the Coalition Wellbeing Survey has been used by community coalitions throughout Queensland and NSW to measure coalition wellbeing and strengthen their collaboration. This presentation will discuss the value of using #measurementtools like the Coalition Wellbeing Survey to strengthen collaboration. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IwB0CYw3oqI&feature=youtu.be

01.01.2022 GCI held its first online seminar ‘The power of a critical friend Collective Change Facilitation’ on 17 June 2020. "Do you ever wish you could call a friend to bounce ideas around or ask them for their opinion? Do you wish you had someone you could rely on to provide you with honest but constructive advice? Or someone who can keep an eye on the big picture and ask those tricky questions that get you thinking? Collective Change Facilitators (sometimes known as Collective Im...pact Facilitators) are an important part of the #PreventionTranslation and #SupportSystem being developed as part of the CREATE-ing Pathways to #ChildWellbeing project. #CollectiveChange Facilitators work to strengthen #CommunityCoalition functioning, a factor that has been linked to coalition success when influencing positive community change. They support #collaboration & relationships within & external to the community coalition by working alongside members of a partnership to enhance their functioning while also #buildingcapacity. As part of this presentation, we will unpack what it means to be a Collective Change Facilitator and discuss the impact of a critical friend walking alongside you...." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2OZYULTZ7w#action=share See more
