25.01.2022 At Christ The King, we recognise and value the leadership qualities that all of our students possess. On Friday, the Senior Learning Community had the opportunity to participate in the "Unleashing Personal Potential - Aspire Higher" Leadership Workshop. It was incredible to see our students interact and live out our core values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience across a range of team building, self-reflection and leadership activities. What a great experience!

25.01.2022 Our Prep students have been counting the days they have been at school until they reach 100. After only 13 days they are already showing all the right signs of becoming readers, writers and mathematicians. They also showing great signs of being able to work collaboratively as a team. .

24.01.2022 A proud moment for Christ the King Primary school today with the Official Opening of the refurbished main building by the Hon Senator Sarah Henderson and blessing of the building by Bishop Mark Edwards OMI. Christ the King wishes to acknowledge and thank the Australian Federal Government for the $1,836, 000 contributed to this project. We would also like to sincerely thank our parent community for their fundraising efforts over the last three years, raising more than $50,000 to furnish our new facilities. A truly outstanding community effort on so many levels to get to this point. Everyone should feel very proud of what has been achieved together as a community.

23.01.2022 Last Friday, we had our annual fundraising event "Kickin' For Viqueque" and over $1100 was raised! What an incredible effort from the Christ The King commuity - promoting social justice! All funds will be donated to our partner parish, Mary Immaculate in Viqueque. Thank-you!

22.01.2022 Last week Christ the King celebrated its first Sustainability Week. The week set out to raise awareness, educate and offer a range of activities for children to participate in. Each day had a different focus which included waste, water, energy and biodiversity. Our schools Green Team did such an amazing job of running a number of lunch time activities for our students and speaking in front of the whole school about the importance of sustainability. As we work towards becoming a recognised ResourceSmart school, it is important we find meaningful ways to engage and educate our kids on becoming more sustainable.

17.01.2022 The 2020 Parish Twinning Cup (PTC) was held in December 2019 with the Final Championship match played on Friday, 3rd January 2020. Beloi won the Cup, having been the runner-up in 2018. The PTC is played on the field (campu) at the back of the parish property. This was the 7th Cup held in the 10 year partnership between St Mary of the Angels Geelong and Mary Immaculate Viqueque. The Parish Twinning Cup has grown from strength to strength. From a small number of local teams wh...o came together for a day back in 2010, the competition now comprises multiple teams from throughout the Viqueque district held over several weeks. The local organising committee promote a healthy sporting lifestyle message in order to get young people involved. The Geelong Viqueque Friendship Schools committee has now joined with St Marys Geelong and provided financial sponsorship for the PTC in 2018 and 2020. This is another great example of the co-operation between organisations in Geelong to support the young people of Viqueque!

16.01.2022 A big SHOUT OUT to the students from The Gordon Institute and Sandi Dimasi for all their work over the last three weeks. A fantastic effort by the SLC students to raise over $400 to be donated to a nominated charity on the lead up to Christmas! What an incredible way to begin the Advent season! Students demonstrated their creativity by upcycling and repurposing old items, giving them a new life, which were sold at a Christmas Market this afternoon. Thank-you to everyone that attended and participated!

14.01.2022 A big shout out to the staff at Christ the King who have worked tirelessly for the last 4 days to come up with an online learning platform using Google sites. This means that students and parents will be able to access learning remotely( should this be required next term), as if they were at still at school! Christ the King is committed to keeping learning accessible and to staying in contact with the students and parents. So the school will also be using Google Hangouts and various other online chat tools, so that students can check in and have a learning conversation with their teachers each week. Congratulations to the staff for all their efforts in this last week. Jose Blackley Principal of Christ the King

13.01.2022 Today the children in the MLC baked focaccia. This was the culmination of our Religious Education unit about Eucharist. We then ate together and shared stories about Jesus as members of a shared Eucharistic community.

12.01.2022 Congratulations to Arlo in Year 2. Arlo competed in his first National wheelchair tennis championships today! Not only was Arlo the youngest player but he won 3 of his doubles games. Arlo got the chance to meet and hang out with Heath Davidson and Dylan Alcott (number 1and 2 Australian Quad wheelchair players). Arlo was interviewed by Heath Davidson as part of Heaths chase your dream campaign leading up to the paraOlympics next year. Christ the King is very proud of Arlo, not just because of this experience today but because of the way he approaches everyday at school - always showing resilience, tenacity, optimism and always with a smile on his face!

11.01.2022 Today the MLC held their Learning Expo. The children were very excited to show what they had been learning in Geography this term through their dioramas. They also used coding to record their knowledge onto Scratch as well as using their knowledge of circuits to connect a Makeymakey in order to produce sound from their diorama. The children also used QR codes to explain their interpretation of forgiveness through art. All of these examples using technology, show that Christ the King is future orientated to set our kids up for success.

11.01.2022 Today, the Christ The King First LEGO League Cre8te The Future Team were fortunate enough to visit the CADET (Centre for Advanced Design in Engineering Training) building at Deakin University as a part of a STEM Celebration Day. Here, the students participated in a range of hands-on activities that required them to work as a team and apply their critical and creative thinking skills towards solving authentic real-world problems. Activities ranged from learning about Artificia...l Intelligence through controlling a robot to carry out a series of tasks, constructing bridges to hold weights with a limited amount of materials, analysing building structures using magnetic materials to withstand earthquake simulations, and investigating the use of energy sources with an electric display of the Tesla transformers in the High Voltage Lab! Thank-you to everyone at Deakin University for working with our school to provide us with this incredible and memorable experience. Students in the Cre8te The Future Team will be competing in the First LEGO League regional competition tomorrow in Werribee! We wish them the best of luck and know they will do our school proud!

11.01.2022 Congratulations Cre8te the Future Team and Coaches ( Melissa Wray & Keegan Doherty) on making it to the National First Lego Finals yesterday, competing against 47 teams from Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania. With only three places for the International Competitions in Greece, Texas and Sydney, the team was not successful in gaining a place at the international level. However the team and coaches can hold their heads high they made it to the Nationals in the first place. As a school community we are very proud of their achievements and recognise how hard they all worked to make it to this level. Thank you to all involved, including the parents for their support.

10.01.2022 Christ the King Feast day was marked in a very special way today with the installation of a contemporary and child friendly image of Christ the King. You will note many similarities between the old stained glass window (that used to be in the Church at the front of the school) with this new version. The children and staff are delighted with this image and spent some time in prayer today to mark our school's Feast Day. Special acknowledgement and thanks goes to Sr Susan Daly ...who designed the image, Brian Reynolds (parent at our school) who designed the wooden frame around the image, Terry Stevenson our electrician who did all of the electrical work, and Mark from Ancyn Printers who created the perspex disc. Together this team did an amazing job and we know this image will stay in the minds of our children, staff and parents for a long time to come. See more

02.01.2022 It is with great pleasure that we welcome Kate Watts to Christ the King Community in 2020. For more information about Kate, please read her bio below. I am very excited to be joining the Christ the King community as a Grade 1-2 teacher. I completed my Bachelor of Education at the University of Ballarat, my Graduate Certificate in Catholic Studies at the Australian Catholic University (ACU) and in 2020 I will commence my Masters of Education in Student Wellbeing at ACU. I ha...ve been a classroom teacher as St Marys Primary School in Williamstown for the past four years. During my teaching career, I have provided stimulating and technology-rich learning environments that fostered confidence and encouraged students to strive to reach their full potential. I bring a creative, positive energy to the school, accompanied with a desire and willingness to work with others to achieve our common goal. In 2019 I was a highly valued member of representative teams for Pattern And Structure Assessment (PASA), Inquiry Learning and the Religious Education Collective. My philosophy on education focuses on an active approach as I engage my students in discussions, activities and higher-level thinking. I believe that all children can learn, therefore I have high expectations for my students. I include interesting learning activities in my lessons to grab the attention of students and inspire them to participate and learn. I believe that all students have the right to a good education, and they should all be encouraged to do their best. This is achieved while reviewing the assessment data and discovering where there are gaps in the students learning that needs to be addressed. Academically, learning is about becoming a better listener, a confident speaker, a more thorough thinker, an active problem-solver and creating a foundation to become a life-long learner. These skills will steer students to overcome future obstacles and challenges, both of an academic and/or personal nature, while also preparing them to take advantage of every opportunity available to them.

01.01.2022 A very inspiring but soulful reflection on how life has changed in 2020. Now, more than ever, we need to stay strong and believe that we will come out of this, more grateful, stronger and resilient than ever.
