25.01.2022 No Cubed today This morning's air is wet and electric as it waits for a blow-storm that's whipping up somewhere beyond the Necks limits but headed our way . The sky has fired some warning shots, loud thunder that's telling us to stay put .... We checked the Lookout at first light, as our @southroastcoffee brew cut through the fog that surrounded us and the fog in our heads. Then back home to smells of cinnamon, chocolate, caramel and plans to see you all Friday See more

25.01.2022 Beautiful spaces and humbling places . Here on our island, we're so lucky that the mountains, the valleys, the oceans and beyond are still accessible to us . This is Waterfall Bluff, one of our favorite walks on the Tasman Peninsula with its sweeping views of Cape Huay and some of the tallest coastal cliffs on the Southern Hemisphere ... Best of all it's nestled in our beautiful neighborhood of Eaglehawk Neck, only an hour from Hobart . We're hitting more trails, armed with our brew kit and Banjo where we can. Stay tuned, it's gonna get wild

24.01.2022 All we need is sunshine, a salty breeze and a good brew

23.01.2022 Eek, no Cubed today! . Baking into the wee hours, who knew the weather would put a stop to our Cubed Sundaylebration . It's so blowy out there, the whooshing salty winds seem a funny start to Summer but beautifully Tasmanian. ... We'll while away the day with dreams of Christmas and all the big and little things coming soon Stay safe and well and warm everyone...don't get blown away See more

23.01.2022 My grandparents tiny house . The strangest thing happened yesterday . We were driving from one wilderness to the next and trying to work out our directions, arguing over which coffee kit would fit into our pack and deliberating over whether we could climb a mountain before the storm front set in. We slowed the car to a crawl, pulled into the side of the road and as we scanned through weather radars realised we were right outside my late grandparents old house. ... It was half-gutted by the new owners in preparation for a decades overdue renovation and I couldn't help but drag the barista into the backyard to see if their famous shed still stood. It did . They built and lived in this tiny shed for as long as it took to build their big house with their very own hands. They even started a family here, sticking it out surrounded by pasture as their past lives in England must have felt worlds away. By the time I was born the shed was converted to storage for all the games accumulated by their seven children and so became even more magical to me . Tasmania and especially the Peninsula is filled with these old spaces once loved and since gone to rack and ruin, we've been passing them everywhere on our travels. They always conjure questions, 'who lived there?', 'why did they leave?', 'were people happy here before?'...feeling blessed that we know the answers for at least one of these places See more

23.01.2022 Saltwater and sunshine coffee Mondays

23.01.2022 These wild winter days . The headland's strewn with fallen trees and its thundering waves keep filling the air and our boots with cold salty spray . Back home to dry our feet by the fire and brew some fresh beans from @southroastcoffee... . See you tomorrow . #wintervibes #surfsup #wildtasmania #islandlife #arcticwinds #localroaster #greatmates #roadtrip #luckyninch #oceanlove #adventureawaits #enjoythejourney #trailife #ourbackyard #naturelovers #coffeeadventures #tasmanpeninsula #eaglehawkneck #tasmania #discovertasmania #hobartandbeyond #seektasmania #cubedespresso See more

22.01.2022 Like so many things in 2020, this boardwalk looked kind of vulnerable and swallowed up by everything happening around it . It wound like a snake high above the valley below and we wondered from a distance if it was just held together with high hopes and good luck. We grabbed our coffee kit and stopped to check it out . Amazingly, the lofty path was solid and took us right into the belly of the waterfall beneath Mt Owen. The water tumbled down the ravine and we made a run ...for it as the cloud vapor turned to rain . Thanks @tasmaniaparks for sorting access to this majestic spot, it really made our day See more

22.01.2022 STOP. BREATHE. LOVE. This was the headline for our feature in The Mercury TasWeekend magazine and we couldn't have said it better ourselves . It's an honor to recieve a review. A privilege that someone took the time. But we're really blessed that this one captured our intention and vibe so perfectly. Better still, knowing that we brought the writer joy (and caffiene) on her first voyage out with a new babe makes our hearts swell .... Thanks to our makers and suppliers, you're part of the magic. To our tribe of customers, Cubed is for you. And to the wilds of our Tasman Peninsula? You're everything See more

22.01.2022 We're on the road again, in search of the ultimate coffee stop It's one of our favorite things about adventuring What's yours?

21.01.2022 The Cradle Tree, or "the tree that hugs you" . Deep in the forest, this gentle giant is beautiful, such a safe and restful place. Bird songs fill the air and everything is touched by dappled sunlight. Time escapes us. . Feels just about perfect for the world right now

21.01.2022 Spot the barista They say climbing mountains brings you peace, patience, persistence and gratitude. Whoever first said this must have climbed Quamby Bluff . We left late, forgot the coffee kit and despite concerns about an approaching rain storm, we set out to conquer this giant hump .... Moments into our adventure, we were submerged in a freezing rain cloud which thankfully refused to break. This lasted the entire 1228m of terrain up and back as we scrambled through myrtle beech forests and up slippery boulder fields, parking ourselves on the summit plateau to feast on nuts and water. This was Banjo's first peak . The famous vista of sweeping farmlands and Great Western Tiers was swallowed up by white winds but this felt mystical rather than disappointing. In fact it felt downright Tasmanian, where you just never know how the journeys going to go . We're heading back to our wild peninsula and will be tackling some of Tasmania's finest walks...would you like us to share? See more

20.01.2022 A rainy afternoon, the smell of coffee, a humming tin roof and waiting patiently for snow . Perfect time for little ideas to grow into big ones . 19.01.2022 WE'RE TAKING A BREAK We've got things a-brewing that need some work for a big Spring and Summer at the lookout . Back 25 September and trading 7 days/wk by the sea for the school holidays .... Stay tuned for little updates, stay well, stay safe and keep wonderful See more

19.01.2022 Born to be wild, born to be free . Today was golden and warm, the sun had returned and everyone seemed joyful and glad The sly winds and the rain had departed and now the air was fragrant with salt, the promise of bare skin and coffee .... People burst from their cars, keen to explore as eagles soared overhead. We found ourselves fondly remembering the start of our own peninsula holidays, years before it became our home. We were always so excited, knowing the adventures that lay ahead. Not much has changed . There was something special about today See more

19.01.2022 East to West, these marvelous winding roads feel like they could take us anywhere . We're out to stretch our legs and breathe in the open spaces. The island feels quieter than the last time we left the peninsula but locals are out in force, embracing plentiful, wild Tasmania and it's makers. Traveling freely is such a blessing . Between brews we're scribbling maps of places we'll take friends and family when they can return to the South. For now it's just us locals though, squirrelling about in delight as Tassie's secret places are laid bare in the calm

18.01.2022 Back Friday with fresh baked choc chunk cookies, steaming coffee with @southroastcoffee beans, 'nana bread and the return of the telescope . #goodforthetanks #rainingonourparade #adventureready #rugup #staywarm #tappingout #hometime #wintervibes #oceanlove #ourbackyard #coffeeadventures #tasmanpeninsula #eaglehawkneck #tasmania #discovertasmania #hobartandbeyond #seektasmania #cubedespressobar #cubedespresso

18.01.2022 Everything is wet. Our boots are wet. The dog is wet. The clouds hang heavy, low and grey with the promise of even more rain . We'll be bunkering down by the fire today Cubedies, hope to be back brewing for you tomorrow . Stay warm, safe and wonderful...find a little corner and cosy up ... . #wildtasmania #thankscubedfamily #localroaster #greatmates #roadtrip #luckyninch #oceanlove #adventureawaits #trailife #ourbackyard #naturelovers #coffeeadventures #tasmanpeninsula #eaglehawkneck #tasmania #discovertasmania #hobartandbeyond #seektasmAnita #cubedespresso See more

18.01.2022 Gettin pretty squishy round here No chance Banjo was letting us leave without him though, so here we are . Are you hitting the road this September? Cubed'll be back brewing on the 25th, hope to see you soon

17.01.2022 In the country, doing country things . Thanks to Cubed's new fire pit, Banjo's role now includes "woodcutter watcher" He's asked for a raise...negotiations are stuck somewhere between 2 daily bones or a twice-daily locally grown tenderloin served on his beach .... #itsadogslife #whostheboss #wintervibes #wildtasmania #islandlife #arcticwinds #localroaster #greatmates #roadtrip #luckyninch #oceanlove #adventureawaits #enjoythejourney #trailife #ourbackyard #naturelovers #coffeeadventures #tasmanpeninsula #eaglehawkneck #tasmania #discovertasmania #hobartandbeyond #seektasmania #cubed #hostingmasterclass See more

16.01.2022 Taking a breather, waiting for coffee, catching up with Tasmanian Makers and Brewers. Best start to another day on the road . Thanks @swims_eastcoastcoffee for the chat, the brew and the incredible jaffle

15.01.2022 Back to exploring...sunshine, forest, coffee, local berries and home made jam . Yesterday we set out on one of the Tasman's lesser known walks to Norfolk Bay Lookout and Clark Cliffs . Ambling and scrambling through winding wet trails, everything smelt warm and wonderful as the salt winds rushed from the coast, up the canyon and through the trees ... . We broke free of the thicket and perched ourselves on sunny rocks where blue skies and sweeping valleys stretched to the distant ocean and Maria Island and Freycinet. Fresh black coffee and Anzacs never tasted better than in that moment in the sun . We headed back early and didn't complete the loop. We were sorry to leave without seeing the dense musk forests or Clark Cliffs, following the familiar pink ribbons through the eucalypts and winding back along the gurgling creek and its bounty of mushrooms . We'll be back soon Of all the Tasman trails this one is a particular favourite for us. Inland, quiet, wild and challenging, full of surprises...and Banjo friendly . As we headed home we stopped at the nearby fresh produce stand, stocking up on raspberries for our next batch of brownies and home-made jam to spread thick on fresh baked bread See more

15.01.2022 Weekend brew crew

14.01.2022 Farewell, young humpback . We went exploring yesterday on the billowing sands of the West Coast. When we're not at Cubed, we love searching for amazing places to heat the ol billy can and brew...never difficult in Tasmania. The sun was blinding and as we drove, the barista caught the small whale's silhouette against the churning waves ... . We wondered, had this beautiful animal survived would we have seen it swim past the lookout? So beautiful but tragic, in this wild wild island of ours See more

14.01.2022 Banjo assembled the dog tribe for a play in the rain. It's fire time now The skies continue to look ominous and the tanks are full. We're sneaking out to grab wood in between showers. Wouldn't want to disappoint the dog . No action at the lookout Cubedies but hopefully this'll be the last no-brew day. .... Stay warm, dry and well . #wildtasmania #thankscubedfamily #localroaster #greatmates #roadtrip #luckyninch #oceanlove #adventureawaits #trailife #ourbackyard #naturelovers #coffeeadventures #tasmanpeninsula #eaglehawkneck #tasmania #discovertasmania #hobartandbeyond #seektasmania #cubedespresso #hostingmasterclass See more

14.01.2022 The problem with very clever dogs is that they have excellent memories . Last night, bunkered down beside the fire with bellies full of hot, crisp potatoes and heads full of better weather for today, we promised Banjo a trip to the beach. With the ebbing of the rains, we would return to the lookout and if he was a good boy then he'd be welcome to visit for his first cinnamon puppacino . The rains have not ebbed, they continue to flow. They drum their loud tune on th...e old tin roof. Banjo has parked himself in a corner looking out to sea and we'll be staying home today, trying to lure him out with more dreams of saltwater, play dates and sticks . Have a terrific and cosy day everyone...looking forward to a new and drier week ahead at the lookout See more

14.01.2022 Yes, little stone shed. You'll do nicely . R U OK? We're away from Cubed which feels strange on a day that's dedicated to bringing people together and checking in...that's our foundation ... Guess that's very 2020 though. We're all having to work that little bit harder to stay connected despite...everything. We've just got some bars back and will be making calls and returning messages. Thankfully we've found the perfect place . Stay connected folks, ask the question and embrace sharing your burden if the load feels heavy. We're all part of a community that's ready to listen and to help . Lifeline 131114 See more

13.01.2022 Every team has its mascot and we're pretty happy with ours . The weather is turning back to the sun so we've armed ourselves with delicious coffee and treats and we're off to the ocean . With thanks to local legend @coffeeaway, always great to see our coffee kin x

12.01.2022 Coffee scented mornings at Captains Rest . There's a deep tranquility here, this place and it's history are so connected to the water. It's beautiful. We find ourselves staring out to the jetty, pondering how our coastal home of Eaglehawk Neck is faring to the South. The salty winds are fierce today. We're also wondering how to fit the mattress in the car without anyone noticing (It's amazing).... Ah, Tasmania. Ah, coffee. . Stay well, warm and wonderful everyone See more

12.01.2022 HOMEDAY Our little van is staying put, left to rock and rattle as the North Wind blows in to build its gale The young trees bend sideways, the ocean's whipped up, it's hard to tell where its silvery mist ends and the thick grey cloud overhead begins. Either way we feel submerged as the whooshing sound of the wild fills our ears ... Everything seems darker and thicker around our home, we'll pull on our boots and explore the forest before the rain sets in The kettle's on, our oven's hot...what will we bake? For tomorrow we're back to the lookout and brewing for friends

11.01.2022 Good morning How's your day looking folks?

11.01.2022 Happy Friday everyone It's gonna be a warm weekend so we've stocked up on a couple of sexy single-origins to celebrate . Can't get to the Ninch? Be sure to catch @southroastcoffee at the @farmgatemarket for their famous locally roasted, ethical beans .... 11.01.2022 Why are our cookies so wonderful? Because we truly believe they should be . That's why we source local, single origin chocolate that we hand cut into chunks. Each piece is measured by a well trained eye and kneaded into our secret butter cookie batter that's mixed by hand. The eggs are local. Sugar, organic flour and salt are measured exactly for a perfect balance. We rest our dough for three whole days and only then is each cookie scooped, weighed exact to the gram and rol...led by hand. A light sprinkle of ocean harvested Tasmanian salt and straight into the oven . And that, Cubedies, is why our cookies are special . #cookielove #wintervibes #surfsup #wildtasmania #islandlife #arcticwinds #localroaster #greatmates #roadtrip #luckyninch #oceanlove #adventureawaits #enjoythejourney #trailife #ourbackyard #naturelovers #coffeeadventures #tasmanpeninsula #eaglehawkneck #tasmania #discovertasmania #hobartandbeyond #seektasmania #cubed #hostingmasterclass See more

10.01.2022 Sun, sun, sun, here it comes

09.01.2022 All the windows are rumbling and the doors keep closing themselves, the house is caught in a whooshing and a whirling of winds swooping in from the sea . Banjo's decided its safer to stay in bed so Cubed is staying put today, safely parked at home beside the swaying gum trees . Sorry folks, we miss you, have a wonderful day

08.01.2022 Made for friends, captured by a friend, shared with friends . Have a truly wonderful rest of the weekend folks and remember to share the love (we kinda really miss you)

08.01.2022 Down by the indigo sea, no whales tonight Just wet feet, an eastern breeze and the knowing that they're out there, somewhere, in the deep . We'll try again tomorrow. Night night

08.01.2022 A sweet scone for you and A savoury one for me We've drunk all the coffee So it's time for the tea .... #homeday #wintervibes #wildtasmania #islandlife #teaparty #greatmates #roadtrip #luckyninch #seasidelife #adventureawaits #enjoythejourney #trailife #ourbackyard #naturelovers #coffeeadventures #tasmanpeninsula #eaglehawkneck #tasmania #discovertasmania #hobartandbeyond #seektasmania #cubed #hostingmasterclass See more

07.01.2022 Good morning . We finally made it to The Little Blue Lake and it blue our minds . Exposed white clay in the basin reflects whatever color the sky is that day, back through the crystal clear waters ... . It's so beautiful, hard not to hop in for a dip though long forgotten tin mining by the pioneers has left it unswimmable. Explaining this to Banjo was a struggle. See more

07.01.2022 The little beach is thrumming and the rain is back A local told us to go back to bed. At the very least we're going back inside. Time to stoke the fire, toast some toast, brew a brew . No Cubed today sorry folks...stay dry, warm and safe ... . #wildtasmania #thankscubedfamily #localroaster #greatmates #roadtrip #luckyninch #oceanlove #adventureawaits #trailife #ourbackyard #naturelovers #coffeeadventures #tasmanpeninsula #eaglehawkneck #tasmania #discovertasmania #hobartandbeyond #seektasmania #cubedespresso #hostingmasterclass See more

07.01.2022 No cubed today The rain is pattering constantly on the roof and it's time for oversized woolly jumpers again We left a window open last night and the house smells of wet earth and ocean spray...the birdsong is getting louder in the forest, telling us more cold is on its way We'll put away the apple cake, pack away the cookies, cool the machines. Today we'll read books, eat hot bread and splash in puddles. We'll talk about swimming in the rain but probably stay put by the fire Have a wonderful day folks, back tomorrow

07.01.2022 Coffee . One of our favorite things about coffee is in making it. There's so many steps. Picking the bean, considering the roast, selecting your tools, trialling the grind. That first rush of scent, wafting from the cup Seeking the best spot to brew is a fantastic part of a road trip. ... Coffee's so many things...a reason to stop and a reason to go and a satisfying practice in mindfulness . We love drinking coffee beside the sea, there's something magical in the salt air that enhances the flavor and the experience . See you next week at Cubed See more

05.01.2022 Every great adventure starts with a good rest Of all the little nooks and sweeping views of @whalesongshack this might be the most humble and meaningful, at least to a tired traveller. Big thanks to the delightful @sarahandrews.co for the invite, amazing company, home cooked meal and insisting on a starlit bath beside the sea . Should probably also mention @cubedespresso entered into high end coffee negotiations here but more on that later .... Happy New Day, everyone See more

05.01.2022 Today's vibe is "kinda gale-forcey so not-brewing but very very cosy" . Snuggled up with coffee this morning, we deliberated super hard on whether we could trade...unfortunately a 59km gust made the final call . Really sorry folks but we'll be back tomorrow once the winds settle ... . #banjosayshi #windy #settlepetal #staywarm #tappingout #hometime #wintervibes #oceanlove #ourbackyard #coffeeadventures #tasmanpeninsula #eaglehawkneck #tasmania #discovertasmania #hobartandbeyond #seektasmania See more

04.01.2022 Our banana bread just got a little more magical . These lovely hands were in our kitchen with their owner, our dear friend @sarahandrews.co who offered to help combine the butter, sugar, eggs and all the good things with a little patience and a strong arm. "I love to stir" she said, as the colours and textures slowly turned caramel and we were mesmerised by the skilled rhythm of the whisk . At Cubed we're about bringing people together and welcoming all for a touch of joy... and a tremendous sense of well being . We hope you can taste this in our food... we're sure you will in this batch See more

04.01.2022 This morning's air is icy and the frozen dirt cuts through our bare feet Severe weather warnings are still pouring in and the barista's been checking his grandfather's old barometer since dawn. He keeps muttering "it's dropping...yep, it's dropping even more!" . We're playing it safe today folks and keeping the little tin coffee can at home ... .
