15.01.2022 The tired tractors & farmers of Cudgen... Summer Edition. Frequently referred to as "the busy season"- As farmers here in Cudgen our summers are long, hot, unforgiving to public holidays, wives & children. Basically we are going harder than Santa Claus from about October through until March. That bloke gets some serious credit for just ONE day! ... While this industrious & grinding time of never ending days all rolled into one isn't over yet, we are well into our planting season to ensure we have enough sweet potatoes planted to harvest throughout the next year ahead & fulfil our commitments & orders with contracted supermarket agreements. The humidity is high, there's an awful lot of sweat & not much air con in the paddock! We know this season well. Like an old friend, it comes in with great force every year. As families with young children, we plan our holidays in the Australian winters usually escaping to somewhere warm (unlikely this year) & we study the weather channel & plan our workload accordingly around what we might 'think' the weather might do... (we do not always get this right!). We know that sometimes dad wont make it home in time to eat his dinner with us, come to the creek for an arvo swim with us or kick the footy with us. But this lifestyle, the one in which we choose everyday brings us great joy, a growing sense of pride & this year just gone has honoured our efforts & awarded us with wonderful achievements. That right there is why we turn up each year on the starting blocks in October ready to take on this marathon effort once again. 13.01.2022 Kingscliff TAFE students studying Commercial Cookery visited us today for a farm tour & presentation from Matthew. The journey from Paddock to plate and everything in between including ideal soil composition & our quality control measures to ensure we only provide the highest level of quality produce. Amongst this group were some keen & eager students who asked a plethora of questions. Nothing feels better than sharing your knowledge to a captive audience. Empowering others with the knowledge to share over & over again. Thanks for your visit TAFE NSW!

12.01.2022 Friday night we received a large order for Cudgen’s finest to be on our transport truck arriving into Sydney on Tuesday. This meant we had to gather a crew to work today, Sunday. Not something we have had to do in many years. Arrangements were made with staff on Saturday for 6am start on Sunday. Today we were able to successfully harvest an entire semi trailer load of sweet potatoes in just four hours. Tomorrow they will be packed ready for their journey to Sydney. They will arrive into NSW Coles Supermarket stores by Wednesday. Isn’t Australian grown produce just the best! Harvested on Sunday and eaten by Australians for dinner on a Wednesday!

07.01.2022 Check out our brand new Massey Ferguson Tractor from KC Equipment. It was great to deal with Russell the owner of KC, and had a fantastic experience in getting the tractor to the specifications we need for sweet potato farming. He sourced the correct wheels we required and added some genuine Massey Ferguson optional accessories to make the tractor look as good as it will perform. Matthew's son Jett is in the photo checking the tractor out. In addition to the tractor we have h...ad a Trimble auto guide system fitted. This is the first auto steer GPS unit we have installed on our farm. We hope to improve operating and environmental efficiencies on farm through this unit. Gerard Hoffman from BMS Lasersat recommended the best system to suit our needs and also did the install. It's a bit muddy at the moment, but hopefully next week we can get it out in the paddock and put it to good use in producing the best sweet potatoes in the land.
