20.01.2022 Why Literature Should Be At The Core Of Teaching Instead of only choosing literature based on a specific writing task or learning objective, teachers should make literature the key part of all writing programs. This is the teaching strategy utilised by Alison Marsh, a Year 6 teacher at Hahndorf Primary School in South Australia, who has successfully transitioned from a ‘ritual writing stance’ to a ‘meaningful writing stance’ in the classroom. She discussed with literacy experts Phil and Sharon Callen on episode 16 of The Teacher’s Tool Kit for Literacy the three key chapters to the art of teaching writing through literature. These are The Importance of Reading Aloud, Learning to Read Like a Writer and Truly Being a Writer. http://www.cuelearning.com.au//why-literature-should-be-at

06.01.2022 Dear all, A Reader’s Notebook is a fantastic tool for teachers to help students meaningfully engage with their reading. On episode 15 of The Teacher's Tool Kit for Literacy, we explained that the Reader's Notebook enables students to 'hold on to their thinking' and record their development as a reader. To define a Reader's Notebook, we would say it's a book in which students are going to be drawing, writing, detailing, describing, exploring, organising, pondering, problem-s...olving, recording and sharing their thinking in response to texts," Sharon said. Hope you are having a great week! Phil & Sharon Read the blog here: http://www.cuelearning.com.au//how-the-readers-notebook-fa See more
