24.01.2022 Just in from between Cue and Mount Magnet, take care up that way folks.

24.01.2022 The Lodge Building in Cue was built in 1899 of timber and galvanised iron, with pressed iron interior. Corrugated iron was used extensively in goldfield areas during this time because it was easily transported by camels. Murchison Lodge 22 was consecrated on 21 April 1897. They held regular meetings in the building from 1899 to 1979, when they were cancelled due to insufficient numbers. Now owned by the National Trust of Australia, it is said to be the biggest, free standing, double story corrugated iron structure in the southern hemisphere.

04.01.2022 Labor Government fail to provide basic needs of regional health and emergency services Repeated urgent calls over many years from Vince Catania, Member for... North West Central, for the Labor Government to address the lack of staff at nursing posts in the Murchison region, continues to be ‘glossed over’. Vince said Despite the Minister for Health acknowledging resource deficiencies at the Cue Nursing Post and confirming over twelve months ago a strategy was in the pipeline to ensure appropriate service coverage for the Murchison region was underway still there’s been no action and nothing’s changed. Murchison communities have been calling for the Government to address significant impacts that nursing posts staffed with a single nurse, and often not staffed at all for extended periods of time, are having on the health and safety of the local people, visitors and staff. Nurses and volunteer St John Ambulance officers working in regional and remote locations with little or no professional assistance need to be commended for the service they provide under extremely challenging circumstances. It seems when pulling the Wander out Yonder Campaign together, an impact analysis and risk assessment to ensure appropriate health and emergency resource and response plans required to cater for increased visitation in remote regions wasn’t adequately addressed leaving communities even more vulnerable and placing people at even greater risk. Nursing Posts already insufficiently resourced are now under intense pressure as thousands of people Wander through the regions, stretching services and volunteer groups well beyond what’s reasonable, struggling to meet community and visitor demand. Enough is enough, it’s time the WA Labor Government takes responsibility for the health and well-being of patients, visitors and staff in these regional communities. This just can’t go on any longer. The Premier and the Health Minister cannot continue to accept that this is business as usual for these regional communities, Vince said. Shire of Cue CEO, Rob Madson said this situation is clearly unacceptable, leaving people at risk and should not be tolerated anywhere in this state. I don't want to hear the excuses any more as that is all we seem to get. A recent incident with multiple casualties and a fatality was managed by our nurse and volunteers, still impacted by the trauma and emotional fall out. A week later we had an unmanned nursing post and a small pool of volunteers left to deal with another two very serious situations what will it take for someone to listen and rectify this situation? he said. Surely the Government recognises there’s a serious deficit in staffing and an over reliance on a very limited number of volunteers, which must be remediated immediately to avoid devastating situations. Coupled with this is the threat of potential COVID-19 related issues, said Rob. It wouldn’t be considered acceptable in Perth and the Premier and the Health Minister shouldn’t allow the situation to continue in these Murchison communities. I call on the Government to act before there is another tragedy and provide the resources and support required for vital health services 24/7, added Vince.
