24.01.2022 I have been reminded of this concept recently. When I am tired, or when something has gone wrong, I can decide to either react, or take a moment and choose not to. Often my knee-jerk reactions leave much to be desired, and do not result in anything positive. How do you avoid your knee-jerks?

21.01.2022 I love this story from Katharine Hepburn’s childhood; in her own words. Once when I was a teenager, my father and I were standing in line to buy tickets for th...e circus. Finally, there was only one other family between us and the ticket counter. This family made a big impression on me. There were eight children, all probably under the age of 12. The way they were dressed, you could tell they didn't have a lot of money, but their clothes were neat and clean. The children were well-behaved, all of them standing in line, two-by-two behind their parents, holding hands. They were excitedly jabbering about the clowns, animals, and all the acts they would be seeing that night. By their excitement you could sense they had never been to the circus before. It would be a highlight of their lives. The father and mother were at the head of the pack standing proud as could be. The mother was holding her husband's hand, looking up at him as if to say, "You're my knight in shining armor." He was smiling and enjoying seeing his family happy. The ticket lady asked the man how many tickets he wanted? He proudly responded, "I'd like to buy eight children's tickets and two adult tickets, so I can take my family to the circus." The ticket lady stated the price. The man's wife let go of his hand, her head dropped, the man's lip began to quiver. Then he leaned a little closer and asked, "How much did you say?" The ticket lady again stated the price. The man didn't have enough money. How was he supposed to turn and tell his eight kids that he didn't have enough money to take them to the circus? Seeing what was going on, my dad reached into his pocket, pulled out a $20 bill, and then dropped it on the ground. (We were not wealthy in any sense of the word!) My father bent down, picked up the $20 bill, tapped the man on the shoulder and said, "Excuse me, sir, this fell out of your pocket." The man understood what was going on. He wasn't begging for a handout but certainly appreciated the help in a desperate, heartbreaking and embarrassing situation. He looked straight into my dad's eyes, took my dad's hand in both of his, squeezed tightly onto the $20 bill, and with his lip quivering and a tear streaming down his cheek, he replied; "Thank you, thank you, sir. This really means a lot to me and my family." My father and I went back to our car and drove home. The $20 that my dad gave away is what we were going to buy our own tickets with. Although we didn't get to see the circus that night, we both felt a joy inside us that was far greater than seeing the circus could ever provide. That day I learnt the value to Give. The Giver is bigger than the Receiver. If you want to be large, larger than life, learn to Give. Love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get - only with what you are expecting to give - which is everything. The importance of giving, blessing others can never be over emphasized because there's always joy in giving. Learn to make someone happy by acts of giving. ~ Katharine Hepburn See more
21.01.2022 A female humpback whale had become entangled in a spider web of crab traps and lines. She was weighted down by hundreds of pounds of traps that caused her to st...ruggle to stay afloat. She also had hundreds of yards of line rope wrapped around her body, her tail, her torso, a line tugging in her mouth. This is her story of giving gratitude. A fisherman spotted her just east of the Faralon Islands (outside the Golden Gate) and radioed for help. Within a few hours, the rescue team arrived and determined that she was so badly off, the only way to save her was to dive in and untangle her. a very dangerous proposition. One slap of the tail could kill a rescuer. They worked for hours with curved knives and eventually freed her. When she was free, the divers say she swam in what seemed like joyous circles. She then came back to each and every diver, one at a time, nudged them, and pushed gently, thanking them. Some said it was the most incredibly beautiful experience of their lives. The guy who cut the rope out of her mouth says her eye was following him the whole time, and he will never be the same. May you be so fortunate To be surrounded by people who will help you get untangled from the things that are binding you. And, may you always know the joy of giving and receiving gratitude.

13.01.2022 What you see here is something rare that's being described as what happens when a rainbow falls apart. It’s actually a rainbow being diffused by scattered raindrops which reflect off the clouds behind it. If the clouds were gone it would just be a regular rainbow.
13.01.2022 Music Performance Webinar Opportunity Interest closes on 15th Sept. DON’T LET YOUR STUDENTS MISS OUT Hi Everyone,... As you know, I am planning an Online Performance Practise Webinar for students preparing for their upcoming VCE or VCE VET performance exams, and those preparing for Grade 6 exams and above. There will be a panel of experts, to be confirmed, once I have an idea of the instruments that are likely to attend. The students would record one or two pieces from their repertoire and then share the recording on the webinar for feedback. Mr Neville Shade is very interested in being involved and will be helping me arrange the panel members. To clarify, Neville will not be involved in the VCE panel. I feel that this year has been a very difficult year for our performance students and would like to provide an opportunity where students can practise overcoming nervousness while presenting to unknown professionals and an audience of students, have an earlier deadline to work towards, and receive invaluable feedback from a panel of experts for their last few weeks of prior to actual exams. I would anticipate that the webinar would run during the next school holidays. Depending on interest, I may need to run a series of webinars to cater for numbers. The cost for this opportunity would be minimal, to cover the platform and the panel members' time. Again, that would also depend on interest. If you feel this would be good for any of your students, please email me with your anticipated interest, numbers and types of instruments, so I can make more concrete plans. The deadline for forwarding student information is close of business next Tuesday 15th Sept. I will be in touch with those interested after the Tuesday deadline, with confirmed details regarding date/time and the price for being involved. I look forward to hearing from you soon, Joanne Roberts

12.01.2022 To all the Year 12 students starting exams this week, the very best of luck! Just remember this is the time to show what you know, nothing more. The rest of your life doesn’t depend upon the next couple of weeks. It’s been a hard year, so be kind to yourself, shine brightly and just focus on tomorrow’s tasks. #exams #VCE #GoodLuckEveryone
