24.01.2022 In the Woods came into being somewhere in 2008/2009. Since then it's been a quiet achiever. A fragrance for those who love something quiet, not sweet, just restful. It was created with a mood of an Eau de Cologne, resting on Cedarwood and Incense. Reminiscent of a walk in cool woods. . However, inspiration for me is never truly linear. It's also a love story to the smell of freshly shaved pencils, Tim Finn wearing a rumpled linen suit, the smell of filling a house full of f...rankincense smoke and a book called The Chymical Wedding. It is part of a story of my 20s and 30s, but then also an adolescence spent over many hours of drawing. A love of 4711 and of course my love of neroli oil which comes from that. 23.01.2022 Mysterious synconium with the most delicious leaves. I fell in love at first sniff. . Fig leaf absolute (Ficus carica) has been banned for years as it causes nasty photodermatitis. The classical way to get a really good true green fig is to use a blend of methyl laitone, lactones and contrast them with green sharp stemone to get that milky freshness. Neither of the main 2 are naturals, but are safe and beautiful. There are a number of companies that make out to be natural tha...t use a fig fragrance oils or a combination of synth notes and then go on and list the botanical name of fig in their 'transparent' INCI for a little smoke and mirrors to make you believe they're 'natural'. Greenwashing makes me really really cross. If it's a safe synth (which most are if correctly used) just say it. Stop bullshitting! . Challenge for this year... figure out a really good green and milky 100% natural version...just because it's worth giving it a crack. My synth version is lovely, so it's time to see if I can do a natural rendition. . Where do I stand on synth? I'm cool with them. I'm also cool to make 100% naturals if I want to, or my lovely clients want them. It's my job. I'm proud of being able to realise a clients dream into a scent or scented product. I love to work with naturals, they're rich and luxurious (and expensive!!), I also love to see the way a natural plays with a synth to get really special effects. I love isolates as they're a really fun way to play with all the essential oil chemistry that's in my head and figure out puzzles at the workbench. The most important thing to me is using good quality raw materials, with a sustainable, and equitable focus. And for mercys sake, stop with the smoke and mirrors! See more

14.01.2022 Old formularies are so fascinating. This one I found in a second hand bookshop quite some years ago. The date on one recipe looks like Feb 1870, For me it was some time in the mid 90's. It's books like this that inspired me to learn botanical medicine, and make perfumes & skincare. I'd love to know more of the person ( maybe Lady Marshead of the prescription?) who wrote it. It was launched in 2009, but it's time to move on. 100mL (no box) for $130. Approx 8 left (I fill as it's ordered. I love that I can create with a team that values beautiful raw materials as much as I do.... Which one is my favorite? How on earth can I choose? I love them all. Botanical Beauty is my favorite morning scent, I love eau de colognes they really lift you up, making you bright and ready for the day. Think tangy green mandarins and sparkling bergamot and Si...chuan pepper. Wild Flower was inspired by wandering in summer gardens full of luxurious flowers like Jasmine sambac, orange blossom and Indian jasmine with a super boheme twist of organic patchouli and orris resinoid . Think float dresses and evening garden parties. Violet Kiss is all about feeling sensual with a special spicy woody effect of cedar and fresh ginger to balance out the sweetness of vanilla and violets.
