22.01.2022 For anyone wanting to find out more about the COVID-19 Vaccine - this webinar released yesterday by the Older Persons Advocacy Network (OPAN) is a great start. Very easy to view and a good balance of formal information and an engaging discussion panel with a good mix of stakeholders. The Q&A section approx. 45mins in is also excellent - a great mix of questions. For providers, information and education for staff, clients/ residents, carers and the community you work with t...his is probably one of the biggest issues this year, along with the final findings and recommendations from the Aged Care Royal Commission. We would be keen to hear from you about Qs or gaps in information there may be, so if you have a question or a comment, pls post, or direct message if you prefer, Kind regards, Donna and Carrie.

17.01.2022 We know how important funerals and sorry camps are to our communities. COVID 19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, is turning funerals into a big risk for ...everyone’s health. When too many people get together for a funeral they are making it easier for COVID 19 to spread through our communities. They are putting everyone at the funeral and their loved ones at home at risk of getting the virus. Right now, Australian governments are only allowing 10 people to get together for a funeral. This also goes for sorry camps. Everyone at a funeral should keep three steps away from each other. They should not shake hands or touch each other. This is called social distancing. It is really hard to do, but it will help save lives. If you don’t think you can do this please send a message that can be read out at the funeral service. If you are in a high risk group because you are old or have a chronic disease like diabetes or kidney disease please send a message that can be read out at the funeral service You can also pay your respects by visiting the cemetery later. Don’t go to the funeral and the sorry camp and put yourself and others at risk. Everyone will understand why this is necessary in this time of crisis. Everyone will think very highly of people who help to keep the numbers at funerals as low as possible. Only very close family should attend the service for their loved one. Families should also think about postponing funerals until it is safer.

14.01.2022 Here at CDCS we're really pleased to announce the publication of the first lot of COVID-19 Storyboard Resources now up on the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission website. Complete with user guides, these storyboards have come out of consultation with and feedback from the industry and consumers and are aimed at supporting seniors and the care industry through this time. Now more than ever, as restrictions to movement are lifted and winter begins, we need to remain vigilan...t and protect the most vulnerable in our communities. The first three Storyboards include 'Social & Physical Distancing', 'Self Isolation' and 'Working Safely in Community Care'. In the next week or two we'll also see more storyboards uploaded including ones aimed at staying safe in residential care, at home and in remote communities. You can find the storyboards free to download and print out on the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission's website at https://www.agedcarequality.gov.au//covid-19-storyboards-a

12.01.2022 A very topical issue right now for anyone working in the health and aged care sector is why are so many health workers being infected with COVID-19, even when using what is thought to be 'appropriate' PPE. We have only scratched the surface in this article and we would love to hear from you out there about what some solutions and strategies might be. Please let us know what you think!

11.01.2022 If you've ever felt overwhelmed by the standards associated with cleaning an aged care facility, or providing home based care cleaning services in the community, especially since the spread of COVID-19, you are not alone. As the Approved Provider of an Aged Care Home or Community Care Service the onus is on you to protect your residents or clients, visitors and staff. This week, we've asked an expert in the cleaning sector, Clayburn Figredo, Managing Director at Cleaning Edge Solutions, to share 6 key elements that form the foundation of quality cleaning practices that can help keep your service environment clean and safe for residents/clients, staff and visitors.

09.01.2022 Sharing a pic of my office dog 'May' as a reminder about 'self care' - I was having a really long day yesterday, supporting clients who are front of line in Aged Care preparing for the C-19. May crawled up from under the desk, squeezed into my lap and said 'take a break'....she also probably wanted to go for a run and pee on some grass, but hey, ....take care out there people

03.01.2022 I don't want to feed the hysteria around the COVID-19 virus, no loo paper at my supermarket today when I went to do the shopping, but I do want aged care providers to consider what they should be doing to protect their vulnerable clients and staff. In remote areas we know that some staff members also have compromised immune systems so ensuring you have a plan will be important. We have done a lot of research, looking at what reputable sites like the WHO and AMA are publishing... and checking out what resources are available for rural and remote services. I've written this up into this week's blog post with reference to community care settings and the team are looking at how we can help services further with the development of resources that will be freely available on our resource hub www.culturallydirectedcaresolutions.com . While we already have a check sheet on the site for monitoring clients and have plans for a strategy template and a culturally appropriate poster, let us know if there are other specific tools that you need at this time. https://cdcs.com.au/corona-virus-covid-19-rural-and-remote/

02.01.2022 Here's a video done by NLC in the NT, in language and english with subtitles

01.01.2022 2020 has been a tough year so far for aged care workers. While working in aged care is not the easiest job at the best of times, so many staff working in aged care talk about their love for their work, perhaps not so much the tasks they have to do, but the difference that they can make in the lives of others. Even now, in this COVID-19 world we are living in, staff we have been talking to are working hard to ensure that the people they care for remain safe and well cared for.... So to the support workers who are carrying out wellbeing checks, making sure their clients living at home continue to get the support they need; to the personal carers and nursing staff who are donning additional PPE and are continuing to provide essential care services despite the risk to themselves; to the cooks who are adapting menus and ways of delivering meals; to the cleaners who are supporting good infection control measures and the nurses and care staff who continue to monitor clients and residents and provide essential clinical care; to the drivers who are taking the extra effort in cleaning and sanitising their vehicles, sometimes many times a day, making sure those they transport stay safe; to the activity and lifestyle staff who have had to think outside the box to meet the psychosocial, physical and emotional needs of clients and residents; to the administration and finance staff who keep the wheels turning collating stats, rosters, billing, claims and information for reports, as well as the front of house staff, sitting at the front line, sometimes running defence whilst still providing a friendly face to visitors; through to the hard working managers who are guiding their team through this new world, completing the additional audits, implementing new processes, supporting staff and clients/residents experiencing additional stresses brought on by COVID; and to anyone else working in the aged care sector who we have overlooked - Thank you See more
