25.01.2022 Attention 2021 Kindy Families!! We now have a private page set up just for those families whose children will be attending kindy in 2021. Please request to join by completing the membership questions.

25.01.2022 This is a really useful resource for explaining the effect of Covid-19 to young children and the ways we can look after each other and ourselves. It has been so interesting overhearing conversations at kindy about the "Corona birus" and their understanding of it.

25.01.2022 Wishing all our kindy Dad’s and Grandpa’s a wonderful Father’s Day! We hope you are enjoying the gorgeous sunshine with your family. We hope you received your handmade gifts safely!

24.01.2022 We’ve been having a fantastic time exploring in the forest today! The weather is amazing!!

23.01.2022 Here are some great resources to encourage book lovers in your family

23.01.2022 Wow!! Thank you to those who have already bought tickets to help us on our way! Please share this post with your family and friends so they can also purchase tickets and support kindy! The prizes are AMAZING!!

Please continue to share the link with family and friends and let’s see if we can totally smash this total! Thank you again https://communitylottery.peopleschoice.com.au//cumberland-

22.01.2022 Watched this great webinar this afternoon. It was recorded earlier in the year but it contains some great messages regarding children and screen time, especially during these ‘Covid times’. It’s relevant to families with all age groups, including preschool, primary and secondary children.

21.01.2022 Families always have so many questions when their children are starting school. First year at school offers over 60 pages of practical and useful everyday advice to help parents and new students handle a year of changes and challenges.

21.01.2022 Here is a great resource for families in helping to guide children's behaviour in a positive manner. It's only 11 mins long and Dr Justin Coulson gives clear and concise points. Maybe you can make a cuppa and sit down for a quick watch!

20.01.2022 Today we had a visit from Miss M.W’s Mum who ran an Indonesian session for the children. They learnt more about the culture, language and food. They made a traditional mask, dressed in cultural costumes and cooked delicious pancakes. Thank you so much Leah for sharing your knowledge and love of Indonesian culture with us! Please let us know if you have a special interest or skills you’d like to share with us at kindy.

19.01.2022 I’m totally blown away at the speedy generosity of our kindy community! We’re now at $720 in ticket sales! Things progressed so quickly!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

18.01.2022 Thank you to everyone for supporting us with the lottery! We’ve reached $340 in ticket sales (which means profit!) already. Let’s see how far and wide we can share this to build those fundraising dollars

18.01.2022 And they’re baaaaaack!!! The Rainbow Sisters are at it again bringing the Eat a Rainbow program to kindy!

18.01.2022 Just discovered this organisation, The Fathering Project. They have a range of great resources for supporting Dads in their role in parenting.

18.01.2022 Yippee!!!! We’ve reached $510 in tickets sales. Thank you everyone for your generous support!!

16.01.2022 The Rainbow Sisters were back today! They bought purple and blue fruits and veg to try. Purple cabbage, purple carrots, blueberries, blackberries, passion fruit and eggplant. The children showed courage in trying some new and interesting foods. Next week is the last visit from the Rainbow Sisters when they’re bringing brown and white. They also gave the children a heads up about a special rainbow celebration that will be happening later this term. It’s going to be sooooo much fun!!

16.01.2022 If you are awaiting a Round 2 offer for your child at Cumberland Kindergarten in 2021, please make sure you check your letterbox this week. If you do not receive an offer this week but are still keen for your child to attend our kindy, some places will become available gradually as other families take up offers from other local kindergartens. Mel will be in contact with families on our waiting list to confirm your interest if a space becomes available. If you have any questions please email Mel on [email protected]

16.01.2022 Our kindy is registered to be part of the People's Choice Community Lottery and the money from every ticket our families purchase comes back to the kindy. Tickets are $2 each. When purchasing tickets please select Cumberland Kindergarten. Fingers crossed someone buys a lucky ticket through us! For more information please see the link below.

14.01.2022 Acceptance of Round 2 offers are due tomorrow (Friday 11th). If you have received an offer for your child please let us know whether or not you intend to take up the position. This will help us to continue offering any free spaces to other families on our waiting list. Thank you

14.01.2022 In the coming weeks our current families will be finding out about their child’s class placement for school next year. Madhavi shares some wonderful tips on navigating this time.

14.01.2022 Please excuse the dodgy videoing!!

13.01.2022 - , : Today the Premier announced a 6 day statewide lockdown starting at midnight tonight (Wednesday 18 November) t...hrough to midnight Tuesday 24 November. Only the children of essential workers and vulnerable children will be able to attend school, preschool or childcare. A skeleton staff will provide supervision but not a learning program for the remainder of this week. All students have been asked to take home school laptops, devices, books and anything they need to continue their learning from home. More information on learning programs will be provided early next week.

13.01.2022 Miss C.J. thinks this stick house is very beautiful

13.01.2022 And that’s a wrap on today’s excursion! We have loved our time here but it’s time to head back to kindy. The children will be back just after 3pm if you want to do an early pick up. We’re waiting to see who will fall asleep on the way back!

12.01.2022 They’re here!!

12.01.2022 Public schools, preschools and children’s centres will reopen to all students on Monday 23 November. While OSHC is able to operate as usual, families should check with their OSHC service whether it will run a service on Monday. We look forward to having children back on Monday!

12.01.2022 Mel is busy party prepping for Pipers 3rd birthday party on the weekend! Who else has a little one with a birthday close to Christmas? What is everyone else up to?

11.01.2022 On Friday our Funky Friday Edwardstown group walked to Edwardstown Primary for a visit. We were greeted by Mrs Hodges dressed in her Book Week costume! We joined the Reception class for a story and then headed to the playground to use the equipment. After that we popped into the library to see Malificent (aka Liza). Mel read a story to the children about starting school by Nic Naitanui. The children had some time for book browsing with a friend. Then we went to the gym to eat fruit and have a play with sport equipment. During our walk to and from school we passed some of the children’s houses. It was a lovely surprise to see their parents hanging out waiting to say hi as we passed! We had such a great morning but were a bit puffed out when we got back to kindy! Thank you to the parents who came along to help out

10.01.2022 We’re having another fabulous day at the forest. We’re having lunch and drying some clothes and boots!

10.01.2022 3 second hand office chairs free to a good home. Please let us know if you’re interested!

10.01.2022 The Rainbow Sisters were at it again today bringing more fun and laughs! They bought orange coloured fruit and vegetables for the children to learn about and taste. Sweet potato, mandarin, dried apricots, mango, butternut pumpkin and rockmelon. The Rainbow Sisters warned the children about the perils of too many dried apricots! They were very impressed at the children’s knowledge of these foods. We’d love to hear what your children have told you about the Rainbow Sisters! They’ll be back after the holidays to bring the rest of the rainbow to kindy.

10.01.2022 This week was the Rainbow Sisters last visit they bought white and brown foods for the children to learn about and taste. What did your child think about the foods they were offered? We’re so proud of the children and their engagement with the Eat a Rainbow program over the last 6 weeks. We hope this learning will have a lifelong impact for the children and their taste buds will continue to grow and change over the years ahead and that they have developed the confidence to try new foods.

09.01.2022 The Christmas fairies (aka Kate & Nat) were busy at kindy today, bringing glitter and sparkles wherever they went! Thank you to our other Christmas fairy (Victoria) for our tree to decorate. The children enjoyed using their fine motor skills to carefully hang tiny baubles on the mini tree, manipulating the stapler to make paper chains and using stamps in clay. We have lots of fun learning experiences planned for the next three weeks. Christmas is coming!!

09.01.2022 Last chance to order fundraising tea towels! Orders close tomorrow!! $15 each. Don’t miss out!!

09.01.2022 Captured this pic this week one of our children regularly leaves little offerings for our wombat. So sweet

09.01.2022 Make sure you head over and check out our new website! Education Web Solutions have done a fantastic job in sharing our wonderful kindy!!

08.01.2022 Our day finished up with some fun on Friday at our professional development with Nature Play SA. We were given some time to explore using some different tools. We each selected a log to work with to make our own fairy house. Mel picked up some of the alphabet stamps and small hammers this weekend at Bunnings. Can’t wait to introduce them to the children! So excited for them to have access to literacy resources at the woodwork table and the possibilities this will create for them.

08.01.2022 Well, that’s a wrap for this year! I needed a day to unwind and think before writing this post. Our 2020 kindy year has come to an end after what has been THE MOST epic year! Thank you to all our beautiful families for your kind words written in these cards (& many more!) and your generous gifts. We’ve loved reading your comments about your children’s learning and the highlights for your family this year. The recurring theme throughout was that despite the challenges of this... year with Covid-19, your child had an amazing, incredible, memorable kindy year. Thank you for the support you’ve shown our team during the whole year. Thank you for the trust you placed in us to safely guide and support your child through these difficult times. Thank you to the children for being so incredibly brave, resilient and adaptable each term as new changes were introduced. They have become highly independent little beings which will set them in good stead for starting school. Finally thank you to our wonderful staff team - Maria, Kate, Jess, Victoria, Nat, Vishaka and Tiina. I appreciated your positivity, energy, creativity and persistence no end. This saw us continue to provide a great preschool education to our children during a very unusual year. Thank you also to the Governing Council who continued to show up throughout the year whether it be in person or via Zoom. You showed great dedication in contributing to the overall management of our kindergarten. So for now, enjoy this extra time with your little people. It won’t be long until they’re starting school and you’ll be wishing you had them home with you! I hope you have a magical Christmas and enjoy a safe and happy holiday break. We’ll look forward to seeing you next year when you pop back to say hi with your big Receptions! Goodbye and all the best, xx Mel

07.01.2022 Quote of the day from Mr P.S. these marshmallows are just too good!

07.01.2022 On Monday we had Mr Baker the Principal from St Anthony’s School visit with 4 of their Year 6 students. As a celebration of Book Week the students had chosen some books to read to our kindy children. Both groups did a great job as readers and listeners. We enjoy the opportunity to make connections with others within our community.

07.01.2022 This could be fun to do at home with your children

07.01.2022 It’s wild and woolly weather outside today but we’re having a great day anyway - making Christmas Countdown Calendars, making bags of popcorn in preparation for a movie this afternoon and doing a Christmas tree Artventure tutorial. Lots of memory making for those children whose last day it is!

07.01.2022 Mel’s Christmas tree is up! Needed some positivity after the chaos of last week!! Let’s start a thread with our Christmas trees. Who else has theirs up? Christmas is coming to kindy this week and we can’t wait!

07.01.2022 This is a perfect resource for ideas for the upcoming holidays. SA has so many fantastic places to explore!

06.01.2022 We’ve been having a fabulous time during our Come & Play sessions last week and this week. It’s been great to host our visitors, share kindy with them and engage in some special experiences together. We hope this has helped our families feel more connected with kindy following a period of absence due to Covid-19. We look forward to welcoming our remaining visitors during the rest of this week before the holidays begin.

06.01.2022 As much as today has been unsettling, confusing, stressful and even a bit scary for some, reflecting at the end of the day I am so grateful for our kindy community. We certainly were lucky to have had a brilliant start to this week with our hugely successful colour runs. I’m so thankful for our wonderful staff team and their commitment to the health and well-being of our children and the support they’ve shown me throughout the year. I’m also very appreciative of our kindy pa...rents who have shown nothing but support and understanding during each challenging phase of Covid-19. Even though 2020 may not be the year you had imagined for your kindy child we hope that in some respects it has been better than you could have dreamed. I continue to be amazed at how resilient, confident, independent and resourceful this years group of children have become because of the changes they’ve faced. During this time we’ll be apart, please keep in touch with us via Facebook or email. We want to keep connected and are here to support you. Take care and stay well Xxx Mel See more

06.01.2022 Thank you to Mr T.P’s Mum for collecting our latest guest from the Nature Education Centre. It’s an Axolotl. Unlike our other visitors he is unable to be handled and has to be fed his meat via a pair of tweezers so you don’t lose your fingers!

05.01.2022 Mitcham Library has some great school holiday activities on offer. If you’re looking for something to do, check out their program

05.01.2022 If you’re looking for something to do with your children tomorrow, Peter Coombe is lots of fun!

05.01.2022 We’re so excited to be heading back to the forest tomorrow with our other group! See you in the morning!

05.01.2022 This is also a great short video that provides a parents perspective on supporting children in learning about their emotions, how to manage them and looking for solutions together to achieve positive outcomes.

05.01.2022 A very useful visual to help us understand children's development of their prewriting skills which are important foundations for later literacy.

04.01.2022 We hope everyone has had safe and happy holidays! We’re looking forward to seeing everyone back together again. Kindy is looking fabulous and fresh after the recent rains. The Rainbow Sisters will be back for Eat A Rainbow. Please ensure your child has a sun safe hat for outdoor play. We have a fun and exciting term planned that will create many great lasting memories for your child’s last kindy term

04.01.2022 There’s some great events and activities coming up with Mitcham Library! See the details below

04.01.2022 Think this should be our goals for every child during their kindy year at Cumberland!

04.01.2022 Happy NAIDOC Week! During the week we created our own rainbow serpent outside and decorated it with patterns inspired by this year's poster "Shape of Land" by Tyrown Waigana, as well as having a go at copying some aboriginal symbols. How did you celebrate? #NAIDOCWeek2020 #alwayswasalwayswillbe

03.01.2022 Today’s Eat A Rainbow program was bought to the children by Anna & Priscilla! they bought red foods for the children to try - watermelon, beetroot, cherry tomatoes, red grapes, red onion, strawberries and red apple We’re so proud of the children’s efforts in having a sniff, lick and a taste even when some of them were unsure of new foods. We can’t wait for orange next week!

02.01.2022 Jess and Mel went to Kuitpo on Sunday afternoon with their families to explore and check the conditions for our excursions this week. The creek is flowing and there are plenty of muddy puddles ready for jumping in! Gumboots are a necessity! We can’t wait to get up there and have a brilliant day with the children. The weather is looking very kind too!

02.01.2022 The bus is loaded and they’re off. Phew! What a day! There’s going to be some tired little people back at kindy around 3pm. Feel free to do an early pick up if you are able and want to

01.01.2022 This could be fun! Story time at night time would be exciting for any little person
