21.01.2022 Message from Ian Brady Good morning everyone! Just a little update on our carnivals.... I have been sending out countless emails and made plenty of phone calls to districts that compete in our carnivals about the current health issues and would like to let people know the following. I have also spoken at length with Dave Landers, the President of the u43kg carnival and we have both agreed that we will continue to hold on to a June July holiday carnival date in the hope that health issues relating to corona virus improve , we will however be guided by what happens each day from directives from the Prime Ministers office. We will make a final decision on the carnivals after the May Day long weekend. With our hosting districts and venues, Roma for the u35kg carnival have expressed their interest in holding the carnival in the September holidays. This could work out fine if the government allows sporting clubs and training to resume at any stage in June, Roma have the facilities to conduct twilight and night games if the weather patterns dictate that your child would be safer playing in cooler evening conditions and under lights, morning fixtures would still go ahead, finishing just before noon and starting back at 4pm and finishing just before 9pm for the last round, these are just a few of the options we have discussed in the hope we get the green light to resume . The u43kg carnival was meant to be held in the Western Downs region this year, Western Downs have made the decision they will not host this u43kg carnival at any stage or venue this year, I would like to think that if things change for the better than their decision would be reviewed and reversed, Dave Landers will keep me informed on what transpires with Western Downs and he may even need to approach another centre to host if we are given the green light to play. Anyway stay safe, keep watching old games of rugby league, and enjoy each other’s company whilst in isolation. I have a feeling that the teams for everyone’s districts will have plenty of kids coming along for selection trials this year and can only just imagine the numbers for selection trials in April 2031

11.01.2022 U10/u35kg Carnival It’s disappointing to inform everyone that this years Zone 5 u10 carnival to be played in Roma during the first week of the July school holidays has been cancelled due to the current COVID 19 situation. The Roma committee looked at many avenues and options available to them and in the end it came down to sponsor commitment, team commitment and the safe and well being of those playing and travelling as well as available funds to run a successful carnival.... Other districts have also echoed the thoughts of the Roma committee by taking into account the financial stress a lot of people are going through at the moment. We understand that many of you will be disappointed by this decision, I can assure you we feel the same. This carnival has been a phenomenal part of a young footballers development, time and again we witness future stars of the NRL playing their first competitive games at this carnival, cream always rises to the top. The Zone and it’s district club delegates has given Roma and it’s committee the assurance that they will host next years carnival, we have plenty of reasons to believe that 2021 will be a year to remember, we will be honouring service to the zone for some very important personalities and unveiling special jerseys to be worn by our Jack Dempsey challenge selected teams, these jerseys have individual sponsors with the Easts jersey sponsored By Black Toyota Warwick and the West jersey sponsored by Santos Drilling. We will also introduce to the carnival to bring us into line with the u43’s recognition of the best players in their position for the Team of the Carnival, this is, in our opinion a tremendous innovation that will recognise players in all teams, not just the carnival heavyweights. Once again we are truly sorry that this years carnival has been cancelled, we all believe we will see a new breed of players present in Roma next year. Please take the appropriate steps in regards to accommodation you may have booked and cancel it before it is too late. Please note that the u43/u12 committee will release a statement early in the coming week. Cheers for now! Yours in Rugby League, Ian Brady Zone 5 u35/u10 President

08.01.2022 Some Good News. You may have seen a document from the Qld Government relating to Return of Play aimed at giving guidelines to all sports on when and how they can return to the field. The QRL have acted very quickly on this and have formed their own Handbook relating specifically to Rugby League in Queensland. This document is being finalised within the next day or two and will be forwarded to all Clubs and Leagues this week. It details specific dates for training and retu...rning to full contact footy. It also provides information on what clubs need to do now in preparation for the season to commence and what will be required on game days. IMPORTANT DATES 11 June Return to training in groups of 20 but no contact. 10 July Return to full contact training. 24 July Return to the footy fields, after two weeks of full contact training. Definitely NO TRAINING until 11 June Nil Insurance until 11th June. All players must be registered prior to training. Don’t just believe they have signed, check to make certain. Any questions, just ask but most will be answered in the new Handbook coming out. Peter Rafter Operations Manager Queensland Outback Central Division https://www.qrl.com.au/
