25.01.2022 This proposal has the potential to change the game in the Australian Property Market... "The proposal would give home buyers the option of paying a large lump sum upfront, similar to stamp duty, or an annual property tax. The property tax would be a fixed amount plus a rate applied to the unimproved land value of an individual property similar to that which occurs with council rates."... Here are some interesting facts about the history of Surry Hills... Surry Hills is Australia's 5th most "walkable" suburb, according to Walk Score... Surry Hills has a high-density population (16,412) spans 1.2km. In 1787, Surry Hills was regarded by Australia’s first governor, First Fleet Commander Arthur Phillip as sandy, and full of swamps. A 105 acre farm property, known as ‘Surrey Hills Farm’ covered most of the region and was owned by Captain Joseph Foveaux the namesake of Foveaux St. Strawberry Hills was named after an enormous sandhill known as Strawberry Hill. Terrace houses and ‘workers' cottages’ were built in Surry Hills from the 1850s onwards. It was around this time that the rag trade (clothing industry) became established in the area.
