03.01.2022 We need your help to keep our Guide Dog Handlers and their Guide Dogs safe! Our teams are hearing more frequent reports from our community of Guide Dog Handler...s about encounters with off-leash dogs in their local areas. We know how important it is to keep pet dogs mentally and physically stimulated, but when working, its important that our Guide Dogs dont get distracted so that they can keep their Handlers safe. Did you know that our Guide Dogs are trained to keep their focus when in work mode, and this can be confusing to pets who are used to greeting other dogs with a sniff and a tail wag. In some cases, your pet approaching a working Guide Dog can cause our dogs to lose focus which may potentially endanger their Handler, or cause a confused pet to respond differently due to fear. We know many of these greetings are friendly but encourage you to please keep your dogs on a lead (except in marked off-lead parks and community areas), or recall your dog when you see a working Guide Dog in order to keep their Handlers with low vision or blindness safe. Share this post to remind your family and friends too! [Image description: A close of up a yellow Labrador in harness with their Handler holding on the handle]
