23.01.2022 Today 8 years ago I posted a story. It was called One Page Wonder 1 (Someday I'll). Last Sunday I posted One Page Wonder 396 (Vision). It has been a long journey, now almost an addiction. Here are both blogs. I think I have got better. Someday I’ll We all live in the same world, but the majority of us live in our own Comfort Zone Bubble. ...Continue reading

23.01.2022 One Page Wonder 409 (Allira’s Army) If you are not inspired, find someone to inspire you. If you are inspired, find someone to inspire.---Rodney Tattam (2014...) Some years ago, I was at a soccer presentation where an Australian Womens soccer Matilda International spoke to the group of girls that I was coaching. I recall vividly the inspiration she gave to the girls as they listened intently. Their unwavering focus was etched on their on their faces as they looked to grasp every scrap of her experience. Within these presentations we all take different bits, most often what we need for ourselves. That is how we learn and develop into better people. My clearest recollection came when footage of the Asian Cup Final was shown in torrential rain in North Korea. As the game dragged on and depths of exhaustion appeared, something amazing would happen. She explained it in a way that makes a difference to all of us should we strive to find a way forward. Though totally spent one of the team mates would summon up the strength to do something inspirational and through that she would be energized again and then go onto inspire someone else. It’s life really, search for those that can help you to be better, and follow. Most Sunday mornings now I go to my local gym and do a 45 minute bike class. It is hard and it is at times really challenging, however what gets you through is those around you and those who lead. Most weeks it is the same people, normally in the same spots doing the best they can. On stage is our inspirational trainer, Allira and I like to think of those in the class as Allira’s Army because she is the one common denominator that brings us together, and drives us forward. There are some Sundays where I simply do not feel like turning up, yet almost always I do. Though I may whinge about it, once there I feel the energy of the room as though I am part of a team searching for something special. You tell yourself that it is important not to let anyone down so you do your very best. Of course, at the end I am richer for the effort and connection with the team. It is an environment that is charged with energy as we all strive to be fitter and stronger. No matter what else is going on in our lives, both good and bad for that 45 minutes we follow Allira, as she is guiding us to be a slightly better version of ourselves. That is the goal of all great leaders, to inspire those around them to seek improvement. It only happens when the person in charge is truly a leader as Allira is at Sunday morning bike class. Not unlike our Matilda girl there are times in the classes where I am out of gas and I only have to look to Allira or a couple of others in The Army who I also find an inspiration, and I am good to go again. It doesn’t take much however it makes a massive difference, because giving up is not an option. There are many people in this world who have these unconscious skills to help you make a difference. Find them, absorb what they offer and share with those around you. We all win. All righty, it’s Sunday morning againoff to re-join the Army, "Allira’s Army." Have a great week Rodney Tattam 3rd November 2019

15.01.2022 One Page Wonder 410 (Value what you teach) We need to remember across generations that there is as much to learn as there is to teach.---Gloria Steinem Cont...rary to popular belief most people that I know are good at something. At times, we may think the skillset we have is not that useful, however there will always be someone who wishes to learn it. In a world consumed by screens taking the time out to teach someone what you are good at, may change lives. Skills that can be taught by those with the knowledge are far too often neglected or not valued enough. If you are willing to learn find someone who can teach you. Aiming to be better at something at times is governed purely by circumstance and opportunity. If you are in the right place at the right time and the stars align you may find someone who understands, with clarity, the skills you hope for. Nobody on Earth wakes up one day being amazing at something, it is normally a collaboration of commitment and dedication combined with a great teacher. Two years ago, after an absence of 7 years from the soccer world, I decided that I should return to my old club and teach their teenage goalkeepers. Some 40 years ago, I had been afforded that same opportunity when I was incredibly fortunate to have had the most amazing mentor, Joe. I always dreamed of being the best goalkeeper I could possibly be and I will never forget the time and wisdom my mentor gave to me. His passion and guidance meant everything to me. Over the last two years our five goalkeepers, week in week out during the season, throw their body about continuously in search of improvement. Watching them takes me back to the days when it was natural for me to do the same. My overriding emotion is one of sadness that my playing career is a distant memory, however the happiness that I receive by watching our goalkeepers develop, quickly squashes that feeling. Having some to share my vast knowledge with is wonderful. In life when seeking a mentor, it is important to ask the question, Who are they and what have they done. Should you find the right ones immerse yourself in the knowledge they offer you. It can be incredibly fulfilling for both of you, one in the learning and the other the teaching. Having an attitude to learn is critical and the end product has the capacity to be life changing, as it was for me all those years ago. To Blake, Zac, Aiden, Kaden and John, I say thank you for the pride that I have received by watching you all develop. My hope for them in the future is they all go on to be exceptional goalkeepers and live the experiences that I have. In time my hope is they will look back at these times and believe the effort from all of us, was worth it. We all have the capacity to share with others and to pass on whatever wisdom we have. If you are willing to learn find someone who can teach you. If you are willing to teach, find those who will reinvigorate your life by following the example you set for them. In a way this is how we make better people because skills are not lost in time but passed on to the next generation, who in time will do the same. Have a great week Rodney Tattam 10th November 2019
