25.01.2022 Not only are we excited to be releasing our 2018 Curly Flat Pinot Noir, we are equally excited with how it’s being received. Head to our website to read reviews, tasting notes and other details https://curlyflat.com/wines/curly-flat-pinot-noir-2018/ Our 2018 Pinot Noir is available for purchase and though our cellar door is temporarily closed, our virtual one is open and shipping daily. Alternatively please call our office on 03 5429 1956 for collection from us directly.

25.01.2022 Over the last few weeks we have been keeping a close eye on how COVID-19 has been developing. To support the region we had hoped, at least in a limited capacity, to keep our cellar door open. However, unfortunately, for the safety of both our customers and staff, we have reached the decision that we must close cellar door for the next month. Our grape harvest will start in the next fortnight. As you can imagine, it would be an extremely difficult situation if the vineyard or... winery crew were forced to self isolate and could not harvest the grapes or man the winery. We need to be cautious at this pointy end of our annual cycle. Until further notice the cellar door will not be open. Curly Flat wine will continue to be shipped, so please call us or place an order on our website if you would like to purchase wine. We can also make allowances for orders to be picked up from the winery if pre-arranged. We hope to see you at the Curly Flat Cellar Door in the future.

23.01.2022 As our oldest vines ready to scribe sun and season into wine, our youngest vines ready for their first in our soils. In our experience soil, aspect and vine age give more voice than clone, which only provides the outline, the site provides the true details. As we see the first signs of the vines awakening (woolly bud in some blocks) budburst still looks to be a few weeks away yet. We look forward to the story of 2021 unfurling and taking its unique shape in wine. Oldest vines planted 1992 Young vines planted 2019 @ Curly Flat Vineyard

23.01.2022 New Pinot Noir block planted! Look forward to it revealing its character over the years...skies the limit!

22.01.2022 Getting started on the bunch sampling today. Looks like we’ll be picking in about two weeks time - at the moment the first blocks to go will be the central blocks - our first planted vines. @ Curly Flat Vineyard

21.01.2022 We’re excited to say our cellar door is open again and look forward to friends both old and new. Any queries with your visit please contact us either by phone 03 5429 1956 or [email protected] ... Hope to see you soon!

20.01.2022 We were happy that James saw our new release Chardonnay as elegant and perfectly balanced that it’s maturing at a reassuringly slow pace, promising more still when fully mature. is an absolute bonus... Bodes for well for our first Chardonnay fully in winemaker Matt Harrop’s hands. Great to see our site responding to considerately deft touches. Available now, enjoy!

20.01.2022 Our 2018 Curly Flat Estate Pinot Noir is comprised of a diversity of soils, clones and aspects. So we’re a little excited to announce the release of our 2018 Central & Western Pinot Noirs which together delve deeper into the nuances of our vineyard. Available only direct from us, purchased as a six pack containing 2 of each of the three wines. Head to our website for more details, quantities are limited! https://curlyflat.com/buy-online/ About the Central & Western Pinot N...oirs... The 2018 Central Pinot Noir is derived solely from our oldest vines (MV6, established 1992) which with its northerly aspect classically provides for an aromatic, yet darker fruited expression that’s characteristically embedded with detailed tannin. Comparatively, the Central is a cool place but sees more sun than its western counterpart, resulting in this compelling brooding expression. 2018 Central Pinot Noir 96 pts Huon Hooke Deepish red/purple colour and a dusty, earthy and smoky oak aroma, slightly subdued in the fruit department, while the palate is full and rich, deep and chewy with ample tannin and savoury softness. The palate is stern and firm, slightly forbidding, not showing much pinot charm or 'feminine' aromatics, but hearty and structured, and promising more in future. The 2018 Western Pinot Noir originates from our coolest site(114 & 115 clones, established 1998) from the westernmost part of the vineyard. That said, it’s the easterly aspect that provides for the cooling effect with the vines being sheltered by the late afternoon sun. The culmination is a wine of fragrance underpinned by buoyant red fruit framed by supple, chalky tannins. Powerfully elegant. 2018 Western Pinot Noir 96 pts Huon Hooke Deepish red colour with a good purple tinge, the bouquet redolent of sweet, dark cherries, the fruit doing most of the talking - as opposed to obvious stalk character or other artifact. The wine is medium to full-bodied and well-structured with a firm tannin backbone and a semi-obscured core of charming sweet cherry. Very good intensity, persistence and strength. A serious pinot that will reward a little more time in a dark place. For an independent article about the genesis of these wines from Huon Hooke head to https://www.therealreview.com//curly-flat-release-its-bes/

10.01.2022 To Gris, or not to Gris, that is the question. But if the answer is yes you’d do well with our current release 2019 Pinot Gris, as the experts seem agreed with its balance of richness and restraint. We just call it delicious and disappearing quickly! On tasting at cellar door and available online.

08.01.2022 Summer’s on it’s way and here’s the perfect partner to it. A Refreshingly rich release that ripples with cooling acidity and bursts with flavour... Available now, link in bio Hand-picked and whole-bunch pressed. 3 weeks undisturbed under CO2 before being pressed to barrel is presumably the source of the salmon-pink hue of the finished wine. Matured for 7 months on lees. A small parcel (just over 20%) is fermented on skins then blended prior to bottling. The vinification has... resulted in full-on flavour, the residual sugar of 3.4g/l not high enough to contribute to flavour, just texture. 94 points James Halliday Graceful Pinot Gris. This Curly Flat just feels good. Oh, what a peach. Well, pear in fact... A texture delight that has been handled beautifully. It slides down joyously. You get a sense the fruit floats on a cloud - gracefully. Scents of pie apple and poached pear, there's an attractive lashing of vanilla. Fine ginger spices are sprinkled atop with a deft touch. A hint of nuttiness slides in too. I keep coming back to the width and delicate texture - wow factor indeed. A dried purple flower/musk thing rises up on close. I could slurp on this long time. 94/100 - QWine www.qwinereviews.com Drizzle down the chin juicy brown pear, a touch of nutty savoury stuff, spice and musk perfume. It’s fleshy, ripe and rich in flavour, a fine dust and chalk texture, balanced acidity, and plenty of pear and subtle vanilla and fennel perfume. Finish is long and clean, but sweet in fruit, and studded with a little cinnamon spice and almond. Very nice. Classic feel to it. 92 points Gary Walsh, The Wine Front The plethora of pinot gris/grigio wines in the marketplace range across a broad range of styles, not to mention quality levels. This cool grown Victorian example makes a good fist of the fuller, richer gris style at a fair price. It has a very slight coppery tinge to the colour, and the nose combines pear and white peach fruit with hints of barrel ferment and leesy complexity in appealing harmony. It’s round and quite lush in the mouth, with good length, a tangy finish, and a whisper of alcoholic warmth. 92 points - Ralph Kyte-Powell, The Real Review
