25.01.2022 I've had great results with using this "Forever Young" Collagen and Glucosamine supplement on my own dogs. One for skin/allergy issues and my elderly citizen for her joints and ligaments. This is one of the supplements that I'm very proud to be able to offer to my clients. I will be putting in another order soon so get in touch if you'd like me to pop an extra one in for you.

23.01.2022 You can see the moment Arrow realises he’s stuck! Couldn’t help but laugh! The aftermath of hubby being stuck at home in iso! Project number 137 - remodelling the laundry.

23.01.2022 Harley at his recent Bowen therapy session. This was his 3rd treatment for help with pain after having bi-lateral hip replacements due to severe hip dysplasia. The poor darling was very worried at his first appointment after all the trauma he’d been through having multiple surgeries during covid and not being able to have his person with him for consultations which is totally understandable so I worked gently and slowly and let him control the pace. I don’t believe in forci...ng or rushing dogs and like to let them have a say in their own treatment so they don’t feel overwhelmed or pressured. Even anxious dogs seem to be able to relax and cope with this approach and are soon approaching me for more. He now realises that it’s OK and how good it feels so he’s much more tolerant of being worked on and allows me to work on his muscles more deeply than at first and he seems to be enjoying it as well, even presenting his back to me for more work. He’s such a beautiful boy

22.01.2022 I've finally gotten my act together and created a business profile on Google. It took forever to get the verification done thanks to restrictions! Check it out and let me know if you find any issues. If you feel like writing a little review to help others find us that would also be very gratefully accepted and appreciated. Cheers Helen

22.01.2022 I think it is safe to say that Emmabella, Dior and Renae really, really really love their Canine Bowen sessions with me!

22.01.2022 Agility dogs along with active dogs benefit from regular body tune-ups with Bowen and Emmett therapies. Jessy, Woody and Milly, each have a full body tune-up every 6 weeks to keep their bodies in good shape and it also allows for us to work on any fresh injuries as they occur to prevent them from becoming chronic problems. Kelpies are very active dogs who love to run and play hard so they do hurt themselves every now and then! ... Woody has had some cancers removed from his leg so his lymphatic system also gets a good work out to support his immune system to help keep him healthy and feeling well into his senior years. Since Bowen therapy is a holistic therapy it addresses the 8 systems in a gentle and holistic way easing the body back into balance and the dogs love it too! #kelpiesofmelbourne #Kelpies #morningtonpeninsuladogs

21.01.2022 Meet Rastis, a very sweet 13 year old first generation Labradoodle. Rastis would begin limping after a short 10-15 minute walk and stumbles over uneven terrain as well as knuckling over at times. When I tested him, his rear proprioception is also deteriorating and he’s losing muscle tone in his right rear leg. So there’s a few things going on as he’s ageing. At his first session we did some Bowen therapy as well as cold laser on his hips, lumbar vertebrae and rear leg. ... During his second session his proprioception had improved by half and his mum was delighted that Rastis had been a happier boy with better energy during the week since his first treatment so I’m looking forward to seeing even more improvements in him as we go. Stay tuned for more on Rastis (don’t you just love his name!)

21.01.2022 A tiny bit of sun made an appearance so my lovely golden oldies were on to it! Leeloo and Indi catching some rays together while it lasts!

20.01.2022 Ethels owners and I are really proud of the progress that she’s making! She’s becoming a little more confident each time I’ve seen her and her cruciate ligament (CCL) injury is healing up nicely with conservative management along with Bowen and Emmett body-work therapies to help the healing process along. She has had a CCL repair surgery on her other leg but we are going the conservative route with her left leg to avoid another surgery. ... Isn’t she just beautiful?! See more

20.01.2022 Gizmo is an 11 year old Papillon who has neuromuscular back pain and arthritis ridden rear legs that make walking a real struggle for this poor little guy. For his first session he just sat like this trying to find relief and a comfortable way to sit and cried out when I touched his back so I was super careful to be extra gentle with him. His dad said he hadn’t eaten anything for 3 days since getting an injection at the vet. ... After I’d done a few gentle moves on him he began feeling better so he accepted some treats from me so I got some of my special kibble out for him which he happily gobbled up. It was the first time he’d eaten in 3 days which was a relief for his owner. At his 2nd session he was a much happier little fella while he walked around checking things out this time. He was eating again and not in as much pain this time so it was really good to see him feeling much better. The 2nd & 3rd photos are during his follow up treatment.

18.01.2022 The very relaxed Emmabella last weekend Posted @withregram @emmabella_and_friends Getting a @curlytails_bowen tune up Sorry Aunty Helen, your gonna hab to do it down here I’m in the middle of a relax ~ Emmabella

18.01.2022 Welcome to beautiful Sammy who had her first treatment last week and came for her follow up session this week for help with an anxiety related condition that may possibly be neurological in origin. I’m pleased to report that she’s doing well since her sessions! Sammy is a retired racing greyhound who was adopted through the greyhound adoption program in Victoria and has found a lovely family to enjoy her retirement with! Since Bowen is a neuro-muscular therapy working through the Fascial system it can help with neuro-muscular issues, stress, trauma and anxiety as well as soft tissue, lymphatics, skin, immune, urinary, meridian (acupuncture) and other systems so it really covers all bases making it a truly holistic therapy.

18.01.2022 I often get asked by people if I can help their dog if they don’t have a diagnosis from the vet. Or maybe they’ve been to the vet but they still can’t figure out what’s going on or sometimes it may not be urgent enough to see a vet especially in the current covid climate. The short answer is often .... YES! Bowen Therapy and the other body work that I use; Emmett Technique are both holistic therapies so they don’t rely on a detailed diagnosis of the problem an...d its origins, which is often costly and indeterminate anyway. We can treat the whole body, and the holistic effects are often apparent in finding resolution to problems above and beyond those for which they have sought treatment. They may have come for a limp for example and end up not only fixing the limp but also improving their energy levels, emotional or anxiety related issues, mood, appetite, general health, allergies or skin issues etc I love seeing the changes that occur in dogs from one visit to the next! It often seems like a much happier, completely new dog has just walked in the door! See more

17.01.2022 Carter came for some help to recover from an injury so he could hopefully make it to a show that he was entered in on the weekend. Well a few days later after his therapy session with me he had more than recovered OK winning Best Of Breed out of all the Newfoundland’s entered at the Classic Dog Show!! Absolutely wrapt! ... Congratulations Jane, Emily and of course, the very clever and beautiful Carter!

16.01.2022 We both really enjoyed our Bowen and Emmett treatments last week! Now that we’re getting older we had some really sore bits that feel much better now, so we can get back to being our cheeky, fun loving selves! Thanx Kayo & Tanji

14.01.2022 Gorgeous Arkie needed an after hours bowen tune up on the weekend. Arkie is nearly 16 years old so he really benefits from this body work to help keep him as mobile as he can be at his age. Senior dogs really benefit from this gentle, holistic form of body work to help keep everything flexible and supple so they can stay as mobile and comfortable as possible in their golden years! Isn’t he just beautiful Thanks for the photos Kyla

13.01.2022 It’s with a heavy heart that I share the sad news that Shelly has passed away. Shelly was a very soft and sweet girl who was coming to me to help heal a partial tear in her cruciate ligament. We got her healed up by using Bowen therapy and a conservative management plan. ... She had lost weight and she no longer had any sign of a limp and was back to her normal happy self! Unfortunately she was recently diagnosed with an aggressive tumour so her family made the heart breaking decision to let her go. Goodbye sweet girl I know how much you were loved and will be very missed by all who were blessed to know you

12.01.2022 MUSCLE MONDAYS I’m going to be featuring 1 muscle each week so here goes my first one. I hope this will be helpful and informative! RHOMBOIDS - There are 3 parts to the Rhomboideus muscle and funnily enough they are shaped like a rhombus or parellogram. They are very deep muscles that share their origin with the trapezius muscle and are in the area of the withers (behind the neck and above or over the shoulders). The rhomboids raise the scapula and assist in extension ...of the neck. This is an area of high stress build up as they are designed to withstand large forces and provide mobility and stability to the forelimbs. Strains of the shoulder complex are very common with it being one of the leading areas of soft tissue injury in sporting or active dogs. The rhomboids can become very tight and injuries can occur from simple things like slipping on a slippery floor surface or wet ground, slipping or tripping coming down a hill, climbing out of a body of water, landing from a jump off something high or an injury to the rear of the dog can cause a compensatory injury in the shoulder area. What are some signs of a soft tissue shoulder injury? * Decreased length of stride or extension * Decreased weight bearing on forelimbs. * Head bobbing lameness. * Lameness or stiffness when rising from a down position * Pacing instead of trotting when moving * Pain on palpation * Warmth emanating from the shoulder area * Difficulty or verbalisation when jumping out of the car or going down stairs Treating an injury early can mean the difference between an injury taking less time to heal and an injury becoming chronic that develops scar tissue and adhesions which can impair the healing process. Soft tissue injuries in the shoulders can take weeks to months to recover from as they are in an area that carries a strong weight bearing load. Using Bowen therapy and Emmett Technique we can help relax and release these muscles to allow for freer movement and to maximise healing, circulation and lymph flow for a better healing outcome. Emmett Technique also has a very specific set of moves just for the rhomboids. See more

12.01.2022 MUSCLE MONDAYS: TRAPEZIUS The dogs shoulder joint is the most mobile of all the limb joints and consists of many parts including 25 muscles which all work together to perform shoulder functions. The Trapezius and the deeper Rhomboid muscle (discussed last week) manoeuvre the scapula by lifting it upwards, bringing it forwards and backwards. There are 2 halves of the Trapezius which is a triangular shape and it’s origin extends from the nuchal ligament C2/C3 to the spino...us process of T8 and is innervated by the Accessory nerve. Strains of the shoulder muscles are very common in sporting dogs, hunting dogs who chase prey and active dogs who like to play rough and they can take a long time to heal. Conservative treatment should begin early as these injuries are very susceptible to re-injury. SIGNS: * Sudden lameness or limping in front leg * Limping may get progressively worse after activity * Postural changes in back and neck * Decrease in muscle mass * Difficulty or refusal to turn head * Unstable walking * Reluctance or difficulty lowering head to eat or drink HOME CARE: * Rest is vitally important for a few weeks with only on lead toilet breaks to give the muscle time to heal and then strengthening can begin * Physical Therapy, Body work modalities * Keep dog in a confined area to prevent free running * Do not allow him to climb stairs * Make sure injury is fully healed before resuming normal exercise Sporting dogs may recover enough for normal activity but unfortunately may not be able to return to pre-injury sporting activities Don’t hesitate to get in touch if your dog or cat may need some help to recover from a soft tissue injury. 10.01.2022 16 year old Mowgli aka Moges has had 3 sessions of Bowen therapy now and a bit of cold laser therapy at his last sesh as well. He’s feeling more comfortable and less sensitive around his hips and legs and he has more flexibility than before, plus he has a lovely spring in his step! In consultation with his owners we made a couple of little tweaks to his diet 2 months ago and added Forever Young, a good quality collagen/glucosamine supplement and now his coat looks and feel...s amazing! 1st photo is at his 3rd sesh last week; scroll across for his 2nd sesh photo back in December where you can clearly see the difference in his coat condition since then. Working with senior dogs is so special, I just love that there is a way to help them feel more comfortable in their golden years! Isn’t he just beautiful, he’s such a darling, sweet boy!

09.01.2022 Dad really needs our help in the garden so we help him every chance we get! He loves how good we are at digging and pulling roots out! We are very proud We feel sorry for humans that have to do the gardening on their own - Love from Yara, Arrow and Indi at Curly Tails Bowen

07.01.2022 These photos show the difference it can make changing over from feeding kibble (dry dog food) to raw feeding. Such inspiring changes! Shared with permission from one of my natural, raw feeding groups. Thanks to Kasey for allowing me to share. ... Wanted to post our before and after kibble photos first photo Octoberish 2019 two weeks ago (August) crazy how much they have changed for the better! Thankful to have found this group and way of feeding! Looked into raw for over a year but always intimidated by the percentages and supplements. But this way eased my mind and I will forever feed my pets this way.- Kasey

06.01.2022 When your clients leave reviews like this ..... Thank you to Shinay for leaving this lovely review on my Facebook page! Home of gorgeous Roy Boy It makes me feel so good every time I receive a review or a message of appreciation for helping a dog feel better and don’t tell anyone, but I often break out in a little happy dance too! It’s all about helping dogs and improving their lives for me, that’s what makes me happy

06.01.2022 Ethel and Gracie both had follow up treatments this week. These beautiful girls are so different even though they are both rescue dogs. Gracie is the Pug and is very outgoing and just wants food ... food ..... food ... after all she is a Pug! ... While French Bulldog Ethel is withdrawn and reserved thanks to her puppy farm background but she’s making progress and feeling more relaxed at each visit and is starting to come out of her shell She’s such a sweet, beautiful girl and deserves the very best life! Witnessing the effects that the cruel practise of puppy farming has had on Ethel makes me so angry and sad for all the poor dogs stuck in those horrific places being bred over and over again in horrible conditions so that unsuspecting people can get a cute puppy. It’s not just designer dogs either, it can be pure bred puppies as well!!!! They have no quality of life and don’t get even their basic needs met. They aren’t taken for walks or allowed to play on the grass or even given any affection. It’s just so heartbreaking and cruel! Sweet little Ethel had never been taken for walks or played on the grass or even been played with so has trust issues through no fault of her own. It’s taking her wonderful rescuers and her adoptive family a long time and a lot of hard work to help her come out of her shell that she had withdrawn into. Looking for a puppy can be fun but the harsh reality is that many come from puppy farm environments where the dogs are bred constantly over and over again without any quality of life at all. We don’t want to unwittingly support the cruel practise of puppy farming. The only way to make sure you’re buying from a reputable breeder and not a puppy farmer is to visit the breeder and meet the mother of the puppies so you can see where they live and how they’re raised. 03.01.2022 Part of what I do that I really enjoy is getting to work with so many different breeds of dogs and since I absolutely LOVE dogs it’s the absolute best! Chance is a very sweet Greyhound who was coming for treatment for his super tight mid back, hips and lumbar section making him quite stiff and sore and impeding his movement. Not something you want in a young dog! Happily now after a few treatments under his belt he’s feeling much looser and free of pai...n and can keep up with his younger (much larger ... Great Dane) house mate again. Last week I moved one of my doggy beds over to the other side of the treatment room and he couldn’t decide which bed was more comfy so he kept shifting from one side to the other and back again to try them both out! 01.01.2022 Help me to welcome gorgeous little Theo to the Curly Tails family! 10 month old French Bulldog Theo came along last week with his house mate Roy Boy for some help with a limp he’s been struggling with for the past few weeks. He was jumping around like an excited little bean at first but soon settled down once the Bowen bliss began working its magic on him. I even had him yawning before too long! ... I was delighted to hear at his follow up treatment that his limp has pretty much disappeared so I concentrated my work on his shoulders, neck and forelimbs to consolidate the effects from his first treatment and really get it under control.
