25.01.2022 List of eucalypt seedlings available for sale ($4 ea) at the free arboretum open days on 26 & 27 Sept 2020 (see https://dn.com.au/Currency_Creek_Arboretum_Open_Days.html) Because these are excess to those planted at the arboretum, there are only a few seedlings of each species. Most are rare & unusual species. Some come from afar (i.e. the Top End & far north Qld) and are difficult to grow in SA and best suited for hardcore enthusiasts & collectors. If you're keen for certain species on the list, email me ([email protected]) and let me know - I'll put them aside for pick up at the open days (if available). First in, best dressed!

24.01.2022 The biannual opening of Currency Creek Arboretum in South Australia is happening THIS WEEKEND! See the most diverse collection of live eucalypts anywhere, with over 97% of all species planted on the site. No need to book, but check details here: https://dn.com.au/Currency_Creek_Arboretum_Open_Days.html

24.01.2022 Western grey kangaroos - we seem to have found their fight club at the arboretum. They look kind of demonic at night!

24.01.2022 A large group* of steel blue sawfly larvae on a sapling red gum at CCA. They crawl to the foliage at night to eat the leaves, but rarely do much damage. This tree is a few metres tall, so apart from me tormenting the larvae for this video, they can live their life without being removed :-) *Does anyone know the collective term for steel blue sawfly larvae?

20.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who visited Currency Creek Arboretum over the weekend. The guided tours were unexpectedly large, with over 350 people participating over the two days. We hope you all enjoyed the insight into Australia's eucalypt diversity! Don't worry if you missed out this time, as we'll do it all again sometime in 2021...

16.01.2022 Some landscapes from the Flinders Ranges of South Australia, taken over several trips in the last few months. Sorted north to south. Captions to come...

12.01.2022 This is what 134 different species of eucalypts look like. 520 seedlings (c. 4 of each species) in this lot. To be planted out at CCA this week. All have seedling (juvenile) leaves, which are quite different to the adult leaves in most of these species.

12.01.2022 Trunk disk from a 28 year-old pink gum (Eucalyptus fasciculosa) grown at Currency Creek Arboretum, cut & polished by my bro Paul Nicolle. Origin & current year known, with intermediate years inferred.

11.01.2022 This year's eucalypts all planted :-) Hoping for some spring rain now... Don't forget our arboretum open days on 26th & 27th Sept 2020, where I'll talk about our planting methods. Details here: https://dn.com.au/Currency_Creek_Arboretum_Open_Days.html

11.01.2022 One species, seven very different trees... Variation in the Central Australian ghost gum (Corymbia aparrerinja) due to different environments.

07.01.2022 Plenty of echidna diggings at the arboretum, but we've never seen an echidna there... Until now! It took a motion camera to capture it. Seems they are only active here at night, which explains why we never see them.

06.01.2022 Some of the many eucalypt seedlings about to be pressed & dried as research specimens. Generally 4 seedlings grown from each seed tree. A further 4 seedlings from each seed tree are planted out at Currency Creek Arboretum. Over 150 species (600 seedlings) will being planted this year. A big month coming up!

04.01.2022 Two new birds recorded at the arboretum today! - Black-chinned Honeyeater - Fan-tailed Cuckoo
