24.01.2022 What's New This Week? 11th July 2020 Jim Henson's The Storyteller: Ghosts #3 - A tale featuring the Bean Sídhe. These tales are always a good read if you're looking for something short and thrilling. That Texas Blood: Number One - Looking for a good old western cop drama? It's Sheriff Joe Bob Coates’ 70th birthday and he'd thought it'd be different. This series will be a crime & mystery series with supernatural elements in it. I have to say that as this first issue doesn't play up those themes just yet. Instead, we have a few bickering married couples, a casserole dish, a snake in someone's yard that needs a killing and hanging out in the cop car, talking to the wife. (A review of the comic here: https://graphicpolicy.com//06/25/review-that-texas-blood-1/)
24.01.2022 Happy Saturday everyone! Shop is open from 1pm to 4pm for all your comic needs. Come flip through the previews and see what's coming out in January. Check out the comics and trades that just arrived! I recommend the one where American elections are decided by fight clubs. More on that later.
23.01.2022 What's new this week? 24th of October, 2020 ZOMBIES! From DC, we have a new issue of DCeased: Dead Planet. All previous movie homage covers are also available and they're gorgeous. Issue 4 is the heist issue as the Justice League hunts for a cure and dodges hordes. From Marvel, we have Marvel Tales: The Original Marvel Zombies. It's a collection of Marvel Zombie stories for all fans of Marvel or Zombies. From Image, we have The Walking Dead: Deluxe #1. Return to the beginnin...g, this time in colour! Includes extras at the back; dubbed 'The Cutting Room Floor' - a breakdown of the creation of the issue you're reading. The Amazing Spider-Man #49 - Also Issue #150. A bumper issue containing a main story and extra short stories! Featuring the return of the Green Goblin in the main story. Adventureman #4 - This is an amazing series. I've said it before and I'll say it again, this is a must read series. Adventureman #4 starts tying everything together. What happened to Adventureman and his friends? And what kind of inconviences would a sudden growth spurt cause? Far Sector #8 - Bureaucracy, there is no escape. Even on planets far from Earth.
20.01.2022 Some good comic history https://www.gizmodo.com.au//why-do-we-celebrate-spider-ma/
20.01.2022 COVERS, COVERS, COVERS I enjoy comic covers. Here are some notable ones that have come in these last few months. Our Marvel 'ON SALE WEDNESDAY' covers are in (I received Empire #1, Avengers #34 and Giant-Sized X-Men: Magneto). The story behind these are great. New comic day over in America has always been Wednesday so Marvel is taking a dig at DC, who changed their comic release day to Tuesday (as well as making sure people know when to pick up their new Marvel comics). The o...ther comic covers I want to highlight is the Dark Nights: Death Metal covers. I cannot capture the beauty of these guys on camera. Pictured is #2 and you can see how the top is dark. Select parts of this comic shine in the light and the effect is amazing. This cover does it particularly well. It's just a shame that I don't have any available for purchase as they're all going to subscribed customers. See more
19.01.2022 In case you missed the news of the DC layoffs (the DC Bloodbath as some journalists dubbed it). https://www.denofgeek.com//massive-dc-comics-layoffs-leave
18.01.2022 Hi Everyone! I've been having trouble with my computer, especially when doing things like editing photos. Or just opening photo files. Sorry this is later than expected and the photos aren't the best but let's get started: What's new this week? 27th of June, 2020 edition Comics:... Undiscovered Country #6 - The end of the first story. Will they escape or will they meet their fate within the walls of America? Star Wars Adventures #31 - Contains 2 stories from the Star Wars universe Cobra Kai #4 (final) -It's the final issue and the tournament has arrived. Ice Cream Man #19 - If you haven't read an issue from the 'Ice Cream Man' know that you're missing out. Each issue is a story, told in a unique way and contain some form of horror or terror within. This one is told in steps. The steps to becoming a ghost. Far Sector #6 - Emotions are high in this issue, except for those who get the emotion stripping tech installed. Un/Sacred #6 - Baby on the way and secret siblings revealed. Adventureman #1 - I love the style which is steampunk but also very modern. Also, our main character takes her hearing aids out when she wants quiet. A Man Among Ye #1 - blends fact, fiction and amazing art to give us the tale of a female pirate, living at the end of the golden age of piracy. Books/Trades: Rascal - Lady gets a cat. Makes comics about cat. A nice relaxing read. We'll Be Home Soon - A historical comic detailing 6 tales from survivors of the Holocaust in comic form. A must read. Spider-Man & Venom: Double Trouble - Starring Spider-Man as Venom and Venom as Spider-Man. A fun comic for lovers of Spider-Man.
16.01.2022 What's new this week? 22nd of August. 2020 Vampire the Masquerade: Winter's Teeth #1 - This one has me hooked. It has the first issue of an extra story in the back and character sheets for characters appearing in the comics. Jim Henson's The Storyteller Ghosts #3 - These stories are short but good. They always give me a chill. This story is triggered by stars and follows an old lady with a lantern trying to make it home because she promised her family she would be there when... they arrived. DCeased: Dead Planet #2 - the movie variant. I like these variants. This one features Cyborg. Anyone know what movie they based this cover on?
14.01.2022 What's new this week? 19th of September, 2020. Star Wars Adventures: The Clone Wars: Battle Tales #1 - this comic is canon to the Star Wars: The Clone Wars cartoon series. Vampire: The Masquerade Winter's Teeth #2 - Hard lessons are taught in this one. And Hunters are still killing vampires around the city. ... Ice Cream Man #20 (Dr Seuss Variant cover) - Enjoy some famous children's tales, retold in twisted Ice Cream Man fashion. An enjoyable read, if you're looking for something a little gross and messed up.
14.01.2022 What's New This Time? September, 2020 edition COMICS Fantastic 4/X-Men #2... Chu #1 - We start with criminals teaming up for a robbery. We end following a detective/CI who can see the past of things he eats. It's going to be a great 5 issue series. Well worth a read. Adventureman #2 - This comic has something about it. It's just... different from things I've read before. Feels like it could be a Saturday morning cartoon or something (back when they were good and not 5 minutes shorts filled with fart jokes). The blending of comic book/steampunk heroes and the modern day is amazing. Almost seemless transitioning that just flows. There's something about this series that's special. TRADES AND MANGA Undiscovered Country Vol 1 - I haven't seen Mad Max but this is what I imagine it to be. The world is in a pandemic of biblical proportions and the cure is rumoured to be in America... a country which blocked itself off from the rest of the world decades ago. There are extras in each issue which explain how the current state of the world came to be while the story focuses on the team which broke into America in the search for the cure. Spy X Family Vol 1 - This is a personal favourite of mine. In order to complete his next mission, superspy Twilight has to get a family. He adopts a daughter and finds a wife. But they all have secrets. The daughter is a young escapee of a program to give humans superpowers and can read minds. The wife? An assassin, marrying him in order to not be arrested in their harsh society; being a single woman is suspicious. It's a family/comedy.
13.01.2022 Possibly in tribute to Chadwick Boseman, who passed away unexpectedly August 28, 2020, Comixology has marked down many digital comics of Black Panther. By 'marked down' what I mean is FREE. I don't know how long this will last so go guys. Get comics. (I haven't tried to purchase any -you need an Amazon or Comixology account- , but there are reports of the site being slow - many people wanting to access this deal). ... https://m.comixology.com/search/items See more
12.01.2022 EDIT: Most of these Future State titles are currently set to finish in February! They're a short run. In January, DC comics launches its DC Future State. Spin off titles like DCeased and Batman: Black & White around continuing uninterrupted but most series have been changed or axed. Some have been merged. Below have I have complied some notes on the new characters/titles. If you'd rather read DC's (much better) descriptions of the comics, remember you can find them here: ht...Continue reading
12.01.2022 New news for those interested in the wider goings on in the comics industry: UCS will no longer distribute DC comics after 2020. Here's what happened: During COVID, DC comics cut ties with Diamond Distributors (the comics monopoly, everyone had to order from them) and started distributing through 2 of America's big comic stores: UCS (set up by Midtown Comics) and Lunar (set up by DCBS). It was a big move at the time and caused a spike in comic prices. What's happening now? I...n January 2021, UCS will no longer be distributing DC comics, leaving us with 1 DC distributor. A DC distributor who, along with DC comics, now have a minimum amount that comic shops MUST order. Bleeding Cool suspects that it was UCS that dropped DC comics, read their information here (warning: ads + pop ups): https://bleedingcool.com//dc-comics-didnt-drop-ucs-ucs-dr/ What does this mean for the future? We'll just have to wait and see. Second source for this post: https://www.comicsbeat.com/ucs-announces-they-will-no-long/
11.01.2022 What's new this week? Just the one comic. Stillwater #1 - Stillwater is a small town with a small town feel. If you find yourself going there, beware. The inhabitants are nice but, no one is able to die within the town's limits and they've had enough practice keeping this secret.
11.01.2022 It's Friday (the 20th of Nov)! Personally I've been waiting for the Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity game release today! For all those waiting for comics though, we're open from 4pm to 5:30pm. There's news about the FCBD comics on its way. I just need to iron out some details before I make an announcement.
11.01.2022 Here's September's copy of DC Connect: https://www.dccomics.com//20/08-AUG/SEPT20_DCConnect_4.pdf Enjoy guys! Let me know if you like anything in here. Since DC left Diamond, you won't find many DC comics on the stand here.
11.01.2022 New DC Connect (DC CONNECT #6) here: https://www.dccomics.com/comics/dc-connect-2020/dc-connect-6 Downloadable version here: https://www.dccomics.com///DCCONNECT_6_Jan_2021_onSale.pdf
09.01.2022 It's Thursday (19/11/20) everyone! Remember that Thursday is our late night: I'm open from 4pm until 6:30pm for comic browsing and pick up! (Our next run of business cards are also on the way! This run's design was done by my sister)
09.01.2022 Marvel Comics is producing short, 1 page comics detailing their heroes as they act during lockdown; staying inside. The series is uploaded once a week and the current plan is for the comics to be used as variant covers later this year. The Spiderman comic: https://www.facebook.com//a.106017942487/10158452679072488/ My source: https://www.gamesradar.com//marvel-heroes-become-homebodi/
08.01.2022 What's new this week? Father's Day Weekend, 2020 Adventureman #3 - Still amazed with this comic. I get so much enjoyment from reading it. The events of last comic seem to have been wiped from the character's minds. However, things don't add up and everyone's starting to wonder what's going on. Trades and Manga:... The End - Collects Marvel's The End #1-6. Earth's superhumans must stand shoulder-to-shoulder to face the most terrifying threat that they've ever encountered. Star Wars: Action Figure Variant Covers - Not a comic, this is a cover collection. See Star Wars characters as action figures, as they appeared on the variant covers of Star Wars titles. Avatar: the Last Airbender: The Promise - collects the story titled 'the Promise'. This story takes place after the events of the show with the title coming from Zuko forcing Aang to promise to kill him if he fails at being a good and just leader. It's focused on the aftermath of the war and can be just as engaging as the show. Batman Adventures: Batgirl: A League of Her Own - Collections Batgirl focused stories from Batman Adventures. Great for any fans of animated Batgirl. A Gentle Noble's Vacation Recommendation Vol 1 - Suddenly finding himself in another world; one like his own but not, Lizel immediately starts exploring. A lover of knowledge, he's going to experience as much as he can before heading home.
07.01.2022 What's new this week? Norse Mythology #1 - Neil Gaiman anyone? Here we have a collection of stories coming from Norse Mythology in comic form (not Marvel Comics form). We have the world tree, Odin and his relationship with wisdom and the first part of a story involving Thor and Loki.
06.01.2022 Comics from America is getting more expensive. You know what isn't? Aussie Comics. We have Killeroo issues and the complete series of Deathship Jenny ($9 each) in stock. Killeroo reminds me of the Phantom comics, just if the Phantom killed. Which sounds like something I'd hate but I really enjoyed this outback biker Kangaroo going around and helping people out. I've also heard others call it 'Mad Max but with a Kangaroo'. Either way, a good way to spend your time. ... Deathship Jenny is an amazing complete story following Jenny as she tries to shake her past as the household name 'Deathship Jenny'. It has aliens, space travel, battles, lies, friends, social media and reality TV. I really enjoyed it and I'm sure you will too.
06.01.2022 What fun times. Two shipments of comics arrived this week, nothing last week and it's looking like nothing next week too :) Look forward to tomorrow when I post about the new store stock.
04.01.2022 Hi everyone! No sign of comics this week so we'll possibly have double the comics next week (whoo!).
04.01.2022 What's new this week? 31st Oct, 2020 Ash & Thorn Vol.1 - My notes on this one say 'Old Lady is chosen saviour of the world'. That's all I need to know. SpyXFamily Vol.2 - Child? Check. Wife? Check. Now we see if the next phase of the mission will be achieved. Can Twilight, the great spy, get his child into the top school? And what happens when they meet the target's youngest son?... Vampire the Masquerade: Winter's Teeth #3 - Time to start investigating the killings!
04.01.2022 Eternals #1 is going to release with a lot of different covers. Over 37 of them. What are variant covers? Some comics (most comics) have alternative covers. The story inside is the same but the cover is different. Maybe a different artist does the cover, maybe there's an event going on so different characters are featured, or maybe the comic itself is the event so multiple covers are created for advertising or to display the talent involved. They're collectable and a way to... personalise your comic selection. Sometimes we get to know what variants will look like at the time of ordering. Sometimes we don't. If you're interested, ask about variant/alternate covers. https://www.gamesradar.com/37-covers-and-counting-for-the-/
03.01.2022 Alien and Predator are moving from Dark Horse to Marvel in 2021. Marvel has acquired the license and intends to keep the Alien and Predator comics in their established universe but there are rumours/hopes of crossovers. https://www.marvel.com//marvel-comics-to-publish-new-alien
