21.01.2022 El caballo que se hace el muerto para que no le montén

21.01.2022 This for sure sums up my childhood (which was only the early 90’s ) and how different the equine world is these days ... The good old days All kids rode in a... snaffle because usually that is what your parent [mother] had in their day and they had survived so you had to - D ring, eggbutt, or loose ring. If your pony was a shit and you had a kind parent or one with money, you might be allowed a kimblewick or pelham. Double bits were for adults out hunting or show ponies only. Rubber reins were coveted - hunting a pony with shaving foam sweat on his neck meant plain reins were as useful as cooked noodles. Plaited leather reins were just as bad and ripped between your fingers. Leather girths were coveted just as much - choices were string or the white candlewick girths which would split at inappropriate moments. Coloured browbands were naff - the plastic ones for riding schools and the velvet ones for show ponies. Brass was for heavy horses. There were four types of rug - canvas NZ, jute, wool with a coloured edging and initials for best and a sweat rug that looked like something Rab C Nesbitt wore that you used when thatching. Then there were blankets, usually nasty and itchy unless you were rich and could afford a Witney blanket. Every NZ rug hung to one side within five minutes of your pony being turned out. There were four types of clip - trace, blanket, hunter or full. No one asked what type of clip suited their pony, ponies were clipped to suit the level of work they were doing. Ponies lived out in just a NZ rug, even if clipped, nothing up their necks. No one wanted a coloured hairy, it usually meant your parents knew nothing and had bought your pony from the local riding school and no one wanted a riding school pony. Everyone plaited to go hunting. The amount of fences you jumped out hunting and stayed in the saddle was far more important than if you saw a fox. Feed was natural - oats, barley, wheat, sugar beet and bran then came in pony nuts which were great for rattling in the bottom of a bucket and a countrymix with yummy bits in. You made your own chop and warmed the molasses on the Rayburn. You thought you were a nutritionist if you added garlic to your pony's feed and Tesco own brand vegetable cooking oil was added to feeds to give a shine to the coat. If you went hunting, chances are your pony had a warm mash with a bottle of Guinness and a raw egg mixed into it for a pick me up. Linseed was boiled and fed to everything to make the coat shine. Grooming by torchlight was a skill. Baling twine was a Godsend If your pony went lame, the farrier was called before the vet and usually cured pony. No one's pony had ulcers. No ones pony needed electric massage pads. We all knew someone who knew someone whose pony had had colic but none of us actually had that pony. Fat ponies lived on thin air and no one said how cruel because there was no grass in their paddock. Boiled spud peelings and other veggie peelings were added to feeds as a treat. Wormers came in powder form - most ponies knew when it was added to their feed and left the feed uneaten and themselves unwormed. It was considered the norm to mix the wormer into a paste, spread in a jam sandwich and feed it to your pony. Bread was not considered bad for your pony or even odd to feed your pony. Winning at your local show in front of your school friends gave you rock star status until the next show. Hacking to a show was considered normal. Sometimes your parents would meet you at the show with a trailer just to bring your grooming kit, haynet picnic and a picnic for your pony because your pony would not load so you hacked anyway. Pony club camp was the highlight of the summer even though it was really hard work. The best bit of camp was being able to ride other people’s ponies but everyone detested the tack cleaning and inspections. Everyone wanted their PC C Test, D or D+ was just not cool enough. BHS riding and road safety tests were the norm. Plain leather with just a stable rubber under your saddle or a plain numnah meant you knew your stuff - coloured numnahs, reins, etc meant you were a townie or came from a riding school. Stockholm tar was brushed into the bottom of the hoof and across the frog every night. Everyone had gone to school with purple spray stains on their fingers. When the white wound powder finally came in black, we got excited. All buckets were black and ridged until the rubber allegedly indestructible feed bowls came out - also in black. A bright yellow builder's bucket meant my pony snorted and stood as far away from it as possible and meant I had to walk to the end of the field in the hissing rain to catch him. Long leather boots were added to every Christmas list - rubber ones never shone as much. Christmas lists always consisted of things for the pony - bridle, bit, rug, etc. We didnt wear hats and back protectors werr only for XC. No one checked your hat before an event. We went out riding without a phone and couldnt tell anyone where we were going as chances are we didnt know ourselves, we were just going out riding. As long as we were back for meal times and before it was dark, our parents didnt worry. Ponies knew their way home if you parted company. See more

11.01.2022 Free lease - 9 yr warmblood mare, Grace by Belcam Aggasy, spirited, top showjumping bloodlines. Im offering her as a FUN riding horse if someone is up for the challenge. She looks life straight in the face and dives right in or broodmare if anyone is interested Due to an unfortunate misjudgment made by her breaker, she may or may not be sound enough to bring into any real work. She loves trail riding. Actually she loves anything exciting. I know that there is a rider out ther...e for her. She doesn't try to hurt her rider, just wants to have fun and im unfortunately no longer up for the challenge. Recently ridden successfully by a 13 yr old cowboy/bullrider. When she lost the plot due to sheer excitement and anticipation,, i guided him through circles, change of direction, halts, backing and after 2 minutes she was good as gold. Just needs to get her mind back to something that she feels confident doing. Last year spent a few weeks with a great horse trainer who took her trail riding as well as did the usual stuff. I worked with her 5 days a week at the pony club grounds where we did low jumping, flatwork, desensitising obstacles and game activities. The way that i do my free leases is: If the horse is healthy, happy and being treated well, i leave you alone totally. I will never take the horse back as long as her needs are being met. If your circumstances change, i will always take her back or offer you agistment. Call 0403086474 or message me. See more

10.01.2022 IMPORTANT INFO THAT MANY HORSE OWNERS ARE UNAWARE OF. is a widely known fact that lucerne is high in calcium and low in phosphorous. This is why the ‘old-timers’ always fed oats when they fed lucerne because oats, being comparatively high in phosphorous, would tend to correct this imbalance. It is also a widely known fact that lucerne is a good source of protein and can therefore be useful for feeding broodmares, growing horses and horses in intense work. However, grass in gr...owth mode can also be high in protein so a person has to be careful not to cumulatively feed too much. Not so widely known is the most important fact that lucerne is high in potassium and extremely low in sodium. Being a legume it stores sodium in the root nodules so there is virtually none in the above ground portion of the plant. Apparently it is generally known in the farming community that whenever lucerne is fed to stock they should also be fed sodium (as salt)! The trouble is nobody told the horse people! There is a lot of information out there regarding the benefits of feeding lucerne to horses but not one mention of this crucial piece of information. This is why a lot of people have observed that lucerne ‘sends their horse nuts’! Most people’s horses are already getting an overload of potassium from the green grass they are on. Adding lucerne, molasses, kelp, protein meals, many herbs on top of the pasture grass has a cumulative effect which creates the serious mineral imbalance talked about in other articles on this website. 06.01.2022 Help! So sad... there are so many sad cases.

04.01.2022 Dear Friends, This is the news we have been waiting for! After 5 years of hard work the rail trail is now fully funded for the section between Murwillumbah and ...Crabbes Creek (in the Tweed Shire). Last Friday Thomas George, local member for Lismore and the Federal Minister for Regional Development, Dr John McVeigh - announced $6.5Million funding to match the funding from the State Government. This means there is $13 million for the rail trail which is a great start. We anticipate once this section is complete that the trail concept will continue to move forward in the other council regions. The community will benefit greatly from the trail, with new business opportunities and improved existing businesses. It will provide an active transport corridor for people to use whenever they like, to get around their community. There are still people in our community who believe after 14 years, that the train can come back and have been lobbying very hard for that. This, however sad it may be, is not going to happen. Both major political parties have said there will not be a train on the line in the near future - if ever. Therefore, only two options are open to the government. Use the corridor as a community trail for huge economic gain for the whole region or loose it! The government is much more likely to sell it off for huge financial gain if it is not been used. Thank you for all your support over the years and we hope you can stick with us until we have a completed community trail from Casino to Murwillumbah! Thank you for signing the petition SUPPORT THE NORTHERN RIVERS RAIL TRAIL CAMPAIGN FROM CASINO TO MURWILLUMBAH, can you help spread the word by forwarding the link below to your friends? https://www.communityrun.org//support-the-northern-rivers-
