25.01.2022 Predictions from the BOM for Wednesday & Thursday are temps in the high 20's with low humidity and strong winds gusting to 60km/ph. For the first time in awhile, we will see most areas move into a Very High Fire Danger for these 2 days. Even with recent rains the main concern will be grass fires spreading quickly with the forecasted winds. Please ring 000 immediately if you see any fires. This is not the time to conduct any Hazard Reduction Burns, even a small pile of garden waste or rubbish.

22.01.2022 Through September to November we will see above normal fire potential in South East Qld. Please do not get complacent during these times.

21.01.2022 ** This warning is no longer current. Please check the QFES Facebook page for undated information.** PREPARE TO LEAVE: Springbrook bushfire as at 3pm Fri 28 Aug... Bushfire warning level: WATCH AND ACT Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) advises there is a bushfire in Springbrook and conditions could get worse. You need to be ready to follow your bushfire survival plan. If you do not have a plan, or intend to leave, you should be ready to leave the area because the situation could get worse quickly. Currently as at 3:00pm Friday 28 August, a large bushfire is burning in bushland west of the Springbrook Road and Pine Creek Road intersection and is travelling in an easterly direction towards the Springbrook Road and Pine Creek Road intersection. Fire crews are working to contain the fire but firefighters may not be able to protect every property. You should not expect a firefighter at your door. People in the area will be affected by smoke, which will reduce visibility and air quality. Firefighters are working to control the blaze with assistance from waterbombing aircraft. Call Triple Zero (000) immediately if you believe your property is under threat. WHAT YOU SHOULD DO: Listen to your local radio station or visit the Rural Fire Service (RFS) website for regular updates. If you have a bushfire survival plan, finalise it now so you are ready to follow it. If you do not have a bushfire survival plan, or if your plan is to leave, identify where you will go if you leave the area. Advise family and friends of your plan. Close windows and doors to minimise smoke exposure. If you suffer from a respiratory condition, keep your medication close by. Drive with caution in low visibility conditions. Contact your neighbours to see if they need help preparing for the bushfire. Pack important documents and essential items (e.g., passports, birth certificates, prescription medication, food and water, and protective clothing) in case you need to leave the area. Put on protective clothing (e.g., a long-sleeved cotton shirt, boots with thick soles). Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Bring pets inside; restrain them with a leash, a cage, or inside a secure room; and provide them with plenty of water. Take action to protect your livestock. Move flammable materials such as doormats, wheelie bins, and outdoor furniture away from your house. Fill containers such as your bath, sinks, and buckets with water so you have access to drinking water and firefighting water. Close windows and doors, sealing the gaps under doors and screens with wet towels to keep smoke out of the house. 16.01.2022 To the Gold Coast Community We have been overwhelmed with your support in the opposition of the council’s secret move to remove without any consultation or disc...ussion, the $1 a year per property levy from the Gold Coast volunteer fire brigades. We as the group of volunteer brigades on the Gold Coast just wanted to let you know how your money is spent each year protecting our community. The monies collected allow brigades to: Ensure vital pieces of equipment like generators, chainsaws, blower vacs and portable pumps are Serviced Ensures our operational firefighters have access to food on the fire ground for shifts that can sometimes last up to 24 hours Cater for training events and assessment days Allows us to buy stationary products to ensure we can deliver community messaging as well as training and general clerical activities required Funding of first aid training including the use of emergency oxygen and defibrillators Maintenance of fire stations including pest control, test and tag, fire extinguisher testing, emergency repairs and upgrades to essential items Purchase of helmet torches, small tools and equipment for station and general maintenance Ensuring we can place localized signage in our areas specific to local needs Organizing public open days to teach fire safety, allow community cohesiveness and recruit new members School and kindergarten visits And much much more.... All the monies received by each brigade is accounted for and all undergo annual external financial audits as well as annual budget submissions. The monies we receive is always where possible, spent in our local community supporting local businesses and allows us to engage in community support to everyone that supports you. We are proud to volunteer, and you can be proud that the Gold Coast has a fantastic, dedicated and professional group of volunteers ready to respond 24/7. We are supported by the State Government but there is a shortfall in funding and the GCCC have always helped by providing a levy to help maintain and enhance our volunteer brigades. It is the best way that has supported us to do what we do for many years and this is all done for $1 a year by the ratepayers. The council’s decision to remove a $1 levy for this vital service does not make sense. We are pleading for $1 a year from each property to help you, the community be safe. Thank you for your support Gold Coast.

15.01.2022 THURSDAY TUTORIAL TIME If you could contact one person today, who would it be? Why not make it your local fire warden and apply for a Permit to Light Fire? ...Conducting a hazard reduction burn on your property will help stop a bushfire from starting and spreading. Not sure if you need a permit to light a fire? Fires that don’t need a permit are: Less than two metres in any direction. Lit outdoors in a proper fireplace for the purpose of cooking (e.g. BBQ and camp fires) Certain fires used by primary producers and for industrial purposes. See more

10.01.2022 There are some people you should call in an emergency, and others you definitely should not! You should always phone Triple Zero (000) immediately in an emerge...ncy. If you see smoke or fire, regardless of the size, do not assume someone else will alert QFES. Nearly all large fires were once little fires and we consider these an emergency act quickly as time is of the essence! Remember, do NOT phone your local Fire Warden, Rural Fire Service brigade or Fire & Rescue station. These firefighters may not be in the station and this delays any response to the incident. The number to ring is Triple Zero (000).

04.01.2022 On this day 19 years ago, 343 Firefighters ran into the World Trade Center doing their job and never returned. 60 Police Officers didn’t return home from th...at shift. 8 EMT/Paramedics heard their last call and didn’t return home. Today we remember their bravery and sacrifice.

03.01.2022 The lastest intelligence from the BOM is that the next 4 days will see a continuation of these very dry and gusty westerly winds, with VERY HIGH fire danger right into Sunday. Saturday is looking particularly challenging, especially given that by then we would have had 4 days of these strong drying winds. We have already seen fires out of control today in Tallebudgera Valley and in Northern NSW at Duranbah. With these conditions for the next four days, please do not light a...ny fires. Regardless of what size, just don’t risk it. If you see any signs of fire please call 000 immediately

02.01.2022 BORDER CHECKPOINT UPDATE From 1am on Tuesday 1 December Queensland Border checkpoints and closures will be gone. You should start seeing the dismantlin...g of the checkpoints occurring over the next week and by 1am on Tuesday 1 Dec, free flowing traffic. Thankfully, this also means that hard closures like Tomewin Mountain Road will be reopened . Thanks to the work of the community in fighting against the hard closure and I am so pleased that locals will be able to use this vital road to access their schools and trade once again! Border declaration passes will only be required for those travelling from declared hotspots (which from 1 December will only include Adelaide). Police will undertake random patrols and intercepts, with a focus on cars and travellers from South Australia. The dismantling of checkpoints also means that around 200 police officers can now return to normal daily duties like catching criminals.

01.01.2022 Our Fire Ban sign has been stolen. It was last seen at the corner of Tomewin Mountain Road and Currumbin Creek Road last week. If any one finds it please return it to the Fire Station. Safety and warning signs such as this, provide warnings and alerts to the Community. Fire bans are issued by the Fire Service based on predicted weather conditions in the forth coming days.... The Bureau of Meteorology issues Fire Danger Ratings (FDR), like the ones you see on the Fire Danger board at Pigabeen road and Connection road. . The fire weather conditions forecast for the next few days are deteriorating. Update your Bushfire Survival Plan. Details can be found on the Rural Fire Web site.

01.01.2022 Local Fire Ban Due to predicted weather conditions a local fire ban will be in place for the period 0001hrs on Saturday 28th November 2020 to 2359hrs on Wednesday 2nd December 2020.

01.01.2022 The weekend has been very busy for most of the Brigades across the Gold Coast with numerous Hazard Reduction Burns and providing support to the Springbrook fire.... There was also responses to local incidents for several Brigades as well. On Saturday there was over 55 volunteer firefighting appliances on the ground attending the HRB's and incidents which would have seen nearly 200 volunteers out in their communities. Now we need to look at the weekend and see what this has cost our Group and assist Brigades where possible with replacing drinking water and damaged equipment if necessary. Since Friday the Gold Coast Group has sent out a pallet load, 60 cartons, of drinking water and will need to cover associated costs with catering for the crews as well. There will also be the printing and paper used during these operations so crews had maps and incident information. The money that will be used to cover these costs will come from the $1 levy that is provided to the Gold Coast Group from the community that is collected by the GCCC. We no longer have the time to keep fighting to secure funding into the future as we now have to work on the ground supporting the many volunteers that are working hard to protect their communities. It is now Fire Season and operations on the ground is critical. We are hoping the State Government and the GCCC can work together to sort out this funding situation our Brigades are facing come next year so the community knows that their volunteer Rural Fire Brigades will still be able to function come June next year. #everylittledollarcounts #onedollarlevy #GCRatePayers #SupportYourLocalRFB #volunteer #GCCommunity #hazardreductionburns #2020fireseason #bushfirepreparedness #bushfiresurvival #prepareactsurvive #GCbrigades
