25.01.2022 VOICE, TREATY, TRUTH This years theme takes three key elements to the reforms set out in the Uluru Statement from the Heart. . . Voice - what does it mean to First Nations people? First Nations people want their voices to be heard. For so many years they have been excluded from crucial conversations. An important part of the Uluru Statement from the Heart is having a First Nations Voice to Parliament enshrined in the Constitution, this is key to empowering First... Nations people. There is growing momentum to establish a truth-telling commission that would result in an honest and full understanding of colonisation, and the dispossession and trauma that First Nations Peoples were subjected to in the following years. . . What does Treaty mean? Treaty (formal agreement) in place between First Nations people and the Australian Government would mean that First Nations people would have an acknowledgment that they did not cede sovereignty to their land and therefore it was taken from them. It would also put legislation in place to ensure that First Nations people would inform decisions currently made on behalf of them, and for them, by the Government. Legislative change is important not only for now, but for the future of Australia's relationship with our First Nations people. Indigenous culture in Australia is 65,000 years old (and counting!). As Yothu Yindi famously sing, "Now two rivers run their course, separated for so long, I'm dreaming of a brighter day when the rivers will be one." . . What is the meaning of Truth? There is growing momentum to establish a truth-telling commission that would result in an honest and full understanding of colonisation, and the dispossession and trauma that First Nations Peoples were subjected to in the following years. 02.01.2022 4th Year IA Students Lucy Evans and Alysha Black presenting 1 of 3 concepts to the #fremantlebiennale #undercurrent19 curators and participants on behalf of the Site 7 team. @interiorarchitecture_curtin was invited along with 16 other practices, practitioners and artists to respond to the theme: Undercurrent for the 2019 Fremantle Biennale Program. Team Members: Anna Jozwicki, Milan Heperi, Niamh Swingler, Leah Cooper, Charlotte Black, Rebecca Skead and Kate Becker. This project is a 1:1 built realisation of ideas previously explored in #INAR3009 Futures lead by Brett Mitchell.
