23.01.2022 A little bit delayed, but here is our weeks 5 & 6 highlights video. https://youtu.be/oA7pmEgHTUU

20.01.2022 Term 3 just flew by and that means our School Holiday program Roboacademy is on again. Roboacademy is for 8-15 year olds to learn how to code and build with Lego Mindstorms EV3. Roboacademy usually happens every holidays and we pay close attention to CoVid-19 restrictions while running the programs. It was great to see new and returning students participating in the program. From exciting sumo rounds in the intermediate class to energetic soccer games in the Beginner class th...e kids had so much fun coding and customising their #robots. We also had fun away from the robots with dodgeballs flying not only from each other but also from our #FRC robot Overkill. Roboacademy raises funds for Curtin FRC to be able to participate year after year and it also acts as a nifty way to recruit new team members who are eager and interested. We hope you are all staying safe and are looking forward to the upcoming FRC season. #robots #preseason #frc #firstrobotics #firstroboticscompetition #firstroboticscompetition2020 #firstrobotics2020 #firstrise2020 #firstrise #first #mindstorms #legomindstorms #EV3 #legoev3 #mindstormsev3 #stemkids #legorobotics #legorobot #robowars #robot #robotics #curtin #curtinuniversity #curtinuniversityperth #innovation #innovations #maketommorowbetter #stem #science #maths #omgrobots #morethanrobots #sportofthemind #perthisok #perthisokay #perthtodo #Perth

20.01.2022 We want you...your kids...your friends and your family to join our team! If you know anyone who wants to be part of an amazing team, we are looking for High School students to join the program and if anyone would like to become a mentor we offer engineering hours for helping out. This is a great opportunity for students to learn not only technical skills such as; CAD, programming, photography, design, mechanical skills, and advertising. But also a great program to teach leade...rship, team work, perseverance, and commitment. 20.01.2022 The students are back at school this week but are still working hard on the #robot, with programming, mechanical and electrical teams putting in extra work to try to get a working, functional robot to test. With all custom parts finally made all is left is to tweak our design! Our awards team has also submitted the Chairman’s award essay. Wish us luck as they have really worked hard on this year’s essay. Just a small disclaimer; with students going back to school, they are t...urning up in their school uniforms as they come straight from school in order to turn up in time. We are doing our best to protect their privacy by editing out any school logos and names in pictures. #ignite #improve #innovate #frc #firstrobotics #firstroboticscompetition #firstroboticscompetition2020 #firstrobotics2020 #firstrise2020 #infiniterecharge #curtin #engineering #maths #cad #omgrobots #morethanrobots #sportofthemind

19.01.2022 Our students have been busy building the drive base and are now mounting our revision one mechanisms onto it. We have also started making our bumpers so it's easy for spectators to see which #robot is ours and have begun to map our electronics layout. The Mentors have been hard at work building game pieces so when our robot is done we can do drive team training. The students have also been continuing their work on the Chairman’s Award and started to make merchandise in the... form of pin badges. The media team have also made our week 3 & 4 highlights video. https://youtu.be/Kq4AIlxXv1Q Many of our students have also mentored the first #Robo Academy of the year! Robo Academy is a series of workshops run by the FRC students and Mentors to teach children aged 8-15 how to use #LEGO Mindstorms and how to build and program their own robot using iPads. The students teach beginner, intermediate and advanced classes. It also raises money for next season’s #FRC budget. #FIRST #InfinteRecharge #frc #stemsquad #omgrobots #curtin #robots #ignite #improve #innovate

18.01.2022 Hey Folks, the FIRST LEGO League 2020 WA Season of comps kicks off in less than a month and we could do with a few more volunteer judges. If you are keen, register here! https://docs.google.com//1FAIpQLSe-E9ZGbGrReSQnG/viewform

18.01.2022 Week 6 is reaching an end and the #robot is making good headway! The team will be moving out of the build area on Saturday so this week has been extremely busy trying to finish up the mechanisms. The shooter is ready and can shoot up to 5 balls successfully. The intake can suck up the balls successfully. The media team has mass-produced heaps of the 2 designs and will be handing them out at the competitions. #robots #preseason #frc #firstrobotics #firstroboticscompetition #firstroboticscompetition2020 #firstrobotics2020 #firstrise2020 #firstrise #infiniterecharge2020 #infiniterecharge #robowars #robot #robotics #curtin #curtinuniversity #curtinuniversityperth #innovation #innovations #maketommorowbetter #stem #science #maths #cad #omgrobots #morethanrobots #sportofthemind #perthisokay #perthtodo #perth

16.01.2022 Week 8 is done! Time is flying by really fast but plenty of work is still getting done. We have finished manufacturing new iterations of mechanisms so we could fix what didn’t work the way we intended first time. We have been also doing a bunch of video filming and editing for our chairman's video. As of the beginning of this week we have officially moved out of our old build-space and a huge thanks to Curtin University for letting us use that space for 6 weeks.

12.01.2022 By now you may have heard of the devastating bushfires across Australia. Approximately a billion animals, some unique to Australia, have died with many species facing extinction and many people are considering this year’s season to be our worst yet. 5 900 buildings at least have been destroyed and at least 800 homes have been lost. Thankfully, none of our team members are currently severely affected by any fires but most of us have seen the smoke in the air and fires burning ...on the outskirts of the suburbs. We can’t just sit around and do nothing and although a fire fighting robot is a great idea, we really need to finish our competition robot. FIRST Australia has started a teespring store with stickers, clothing, mugs and tote bags. All profits from these products going towards the Australian Red Cross who are currently helping bushfire victims. Store link: https://teespring.com/stores/frc-teams-for-bushfire-relief See more

10.01.2022 Earlier in the month, Curtin FRC held their annual boxing night! Traditionally, boxing night has been for the team to have one last robot show off before packing it into a box and taking it to competitions. It has since evolved into a night where we show parents and sponsors the hard work we have put into our #robot and acknowledge the people who have helped us on the way. However, this year we will not be competing due to the rising global CoVid-19 situation causing FIRST to... take appropriate action and suspend the season. Still, boxing night went ahead with us having a chance to show our robot in action in front of an excited audience. We had presentations from team captains, mentors, university staff, sponsors and our Chairman’s team. Big thank you to sponsors Altronics, BAE Systems Australia and Curtin University whose respective representatives gave up their time to come along to the boxing night. We also thank ASUS, PLE Computers and the School Pathways Program for sponsoring us this season. Lastly we thank all the parents, caregivers, family and friends who went above and beyond to make the season as great as it was. This brings Curtin FRC’s 2020 Infinite Recharge Season to an end. We will continue to keep you updated on offseason events as they happen (if they happen) and we hope you are keeping safe and healthy during the CoVid-19 pandemic.

09.01.2022 The last week of build season was very #busy. On Monday, we started to finish up with our prototyping and began stripping the electronics from some of the previous robots. While the final prototypes were being tested, driver training was underway using a previous robot that was still intact. We also received our kit of parts this week. The CAD team has been hard at work with lots of mechanisms to design and rapidly creating drawings, so the mechanical team can get to work b...uilding. The media team has also been hard at work creating a new fortnightly highlights video too, so please give it a watch! https://youtu.be/amyrTBmnkWI We would like to give a big thanks to Revolution Sports for their support and allowing us to borrow 6 foam balls to prototype with. #FIRST #InfinteRecharge #frc #stemsquad #omgrobots #curtin #robots #ignite #improve #innovate

03.01.2022 During our current crisis many organisations have come together to help hospitals and further research by providing knowledge and labour. Like them, Curtin FRC has also come together to provide in our own way during the lockdown. Volunteers from Curtin's FIRST robotics team are providing free c++ programming lessons to those who are interested. There will be 2, 2 day courses that will occur on the 21/22 and the 25/26. There will be a beginner course and an intermediate course.... In the beginner course you will learn IO (input output) and learn to build your own calculator. The Intermediate course will consist of creating games such as a maze. If you would like to attend could you please fill out the following form so that we know what numbers to expect: https://forms.gle/DmiWxffbozWEp7Y26 The Beginner course will be on the 21st and the 22nd at 2:00 pm, the course will be via a zoom meeting: https://zoom.us/j/97435242598 The intermediate course will run on the 25th and 26th at 2:00 pm, https://zoom.us/j/99460994961 Both meetings have the password: curtinfrc

01.01.2022 Roboacademy is a school holiday program, run by the Curtin FRC students and mentors, to teach kids aged 8-15 how to build, program and play with LEGO Mindstorms EV3. Due to physical distancing, our April program, unfortunately, did not take place. So, with restrictions lifting, students and mentors alike were excited for our July program. We had over 50 students over 2 sessions participate in this year’s programs. Ranging from beginner to intermediate skill levels, there were... new things for everyone to learn and exciting challenges to take on! The students learnt how to build robots, toppling each other in sumo battles or kicking impressive goals in soccer while the mentors learnt how to teach a group of young students and proper sanitation of equipment. Roboacademy could not be possible without our volunteer Curtin FRC students and mentors who give up their time to run Roboacademy. Roboacademy is also one of the team’s main fundraisers, providing funding for next season’s robot. Overall, Roboacademy was once again a fun and rewarding event. We hope to see the students and mentors coming back for more robotics action next time! Thank you to Curtin University for allowing us to use the space in building 215 for Roboacademy last week.
