22.01.2022 Investing in the care economy works three ways: it increases labour market participation, improves employment conditions for carers, and, importantly, it addresses female economic disadvantage by reducing the wage gap. Read Professor Helen Hodgson's article in The Conversation about new modelling commissioned by the National Foundation for Australian Women (NFAW) showing that investing in childcare would nearly pay for itself. The proposal modelled increased wages to person...al carers and childcare workers, and increased the number of places available in childcare, disability care and aged care. By 2030 the net cost to the Government, after recouping additional taxes, would be $3bn. https://lnkd.in/ddvxc4s #genderequality #childcarepolicy #budget2021

02.01.2022 Professor Helen Hodgson and the National Foundation for Australian Women (NFAW) examined the 2020 Federal Budget through a gender lens. Although women bore the brunt of the economic pain in the COVID-19 crisis, they found that the 2020 budget does very little to help women. Professor Hodgson says, We were told that the 2020 -21 budget is all about jobs. But an analysis of the 2020 budget through a gendered lens shows that most of the jobs and tax cuts are in male dominated... areas, including apprenticeships and traineeships, construction, and manufacturing. The female dominated care sector was largely overlooked. The fact is that applying a gendered lens to the economy is the only way to properly value the work done by women, To read more about their findings, see: https://lnkd.in/g4nkW2J #budget2020 #gendergap #genderequality
