23.01.2022 Tourism NT during some of their recent research, found that Australian's feel MORE Australian when they are 'outback' or 'outbush'. Those of us that call regional and remote Australia home, already know that! Here's some wonderful imagery and great stomp-along music to make your heart sing. ... Think about how the farmers in 'the west' make this country of ours productive, while preserving the natural environment and making it their home. Many of us share our lives and stories with lots of visitors. This year more than ever we need visitors to come and share the wonders of our homes! Now is the time to plan your holiday to visit all the places that just give you goosebumps! Don't forget to hug your farmer today. Maybe while you are on the way to your Travel Agent! #holidayherethisyear #seeAustralia #RedCentreNT #curtinsprings

23.01.2022 The value of our farmers and regional Australia will be (hopefully!) one of the benefits of COVID - respecting the role we play not only in keeping everyone feed, but also the role we play as the engine room of the economy! Hug your farmer today!

23.01.2022 Hi everyone - one of the most iconic activity options at Ayers Rock Resort is re-opening TODAY.. The Uluru Camel Tours team have worked their hearts out over the last couple of months to take the opportunity to refresh their store to make YOUR experience even better. REMEMBER - This has been over a time when their business have not generated a single cent of income. Bills still needed to be paid, staff housed, fed and paid, animals housed, fed and loved. ... Please - say thank you, we appreciate you, we value the services you offer and we can't possibly image your heartache of the last few months. Compliment them on their great result, be pleased with what is available. Smile with them as they welcome you back into their fold. Spend some money, take a ride (or two), buying a wonderful souvenir and a cold drink and an icecream - put much needed support through their till while you take away an experience you will treasure for ever! Come back tomorrow and do it all again. Check their opening times - and put it on your list! #ulurucameltours #visitcentralaustralia #tourismnt #redcentreNT #holidayherethisyear #neverhaveIever

22.01.2022 The clouds build up during the day, started to break up then came in with the purple hue. Please pretty please, can we have some raindrops on the ground.... The storms moved to the south of us, but not without leaving us with some colours of the desert to remember the day by. #storminthedesert #curtinsprings

20.01.2022 The desert landscape really does get into everyone's soul. Our Artist in Residence program has allowed artists to use the red sand as their muse! These lovely pieces are by Catherine Hewitt art & design showcasing the wonderful textures, colours and intricacy of our home. Thank you #curtinsprings #curtinspringspaper

20.01.2022 The clouds built up yesterday and the forecast said showers, but we've been teased so many times ... and it's been such a long time between decent drinks. Come on baby darling dearest one, lets slip up the Top End and do a bore run before it rains! As usual, he humoured me, although we didn't have very high expectations of a wet night. The clouds were pretty spectacular. ... Last night Huey delivered. 20mm in the gauge after constant ongoing good soaking rain all night. What a way to spend the dark time, getting up, standing on the verandah and just breathing it in!

18.01.2022 I’m sure you can all appreciate how challenging it has been to try and guess how many visitors are travelling and what hours they may be driving past! With the current visitor numbers AND WHAT THEY ARE SPENDING it is simply not viable for us to pay staff to be in the store for more than a few structured hours a day. Curtin Springs continues to work towards re-opening, for drive past traffic, in a way that is safe for our visitors and viable from a business point of view. It ...is important for visitors to appreciate that small businesses cannot re-open unless customers are putting sufficient sales through our tills. Please remember that every single service you expect has a cost. Small business can usually absorb these costs as part of their wider business on the ‘swings and roundabout’ basis. And are happy to do so. However, there has to be swings AND roundabouts happening. At the moment, for us, that is simply not happening. For this week we will continue to commit to the store being open for limited hours: Open only from 5pm until 8pm: Sunday 2/8/20 5-8pm Monday 3/8/20 5-8pm Tuesday 4/8/20 5-8pm Wednesday 5/8/20 5-8pm Thursday 6/8/20 5-8pm Friday 7/8/20 5-8pm Saturday 9/8/20 5-8pm Outside these hours we are open by appointment only. If you are booked into accommodation, please call and let us know your approximate arrival time, so we can arrange checkin with you at that time. Dinner with a limited menu will be available between 6.30pm and 7.30pm. We would prefer to have orders before 7pm. Breakfast will be available between 7am and 9am daily. Lunch will be available if there are enough visitors around. However, we cannot commit to this on a daily basis. The campground and public facilities are open for: Sunday 2/8/20 to Sunday 8/8/20. Check-in for booked powered sites will be after 5pm. On the 8/8/20 we will re-assess if income from the campground covers the cost of cleaning public facilities and make a further decision at that point as to whether the campground will remain open or close. We will continue to offer a range of services - on a pre-booked arrangement. So, if you need fuel or meals or accommodation outside the above listed times, please contact us directly on 08 89562906 or email [email protected] to let us know what you need and we'll work out how we can help. We have implemented the Covid-19 food business plan (as requested by the NT Government). This encompasses staff training, physical distancing, room capacity, and strict hygiene standards. Aside from ensuring our staff and customers follow strict hygiene practices, we are also following social distancing rules across the entire site.

15.01.2022 And just like that it started to rain. See, it wasn't so hard to do after all. So, all together now, let's get some practice in and keep it going for a little while.... The mountain has disappeared, the lawn is almost iridescent green, the birds are having a shower and Poppa is heading down to check the rain gauge... and it looks like it might settle in for the day. ... A perfect Sunday! (or Monday or any day...)

14.01.2022 Yes please! Then the same every week for the next 6 months!

08.01.2022 We have gratefully sucked up 27mm of rain today. The soft raindrops mend the soul of humans, animals and plants. We run our cattle production system to try and keep the grass butts in place, so they can kick off as soon as they get a little drink and we don't have to wait for a seed to germinate. Our native grasses are so resilient! This little fellow tried hard last week after we had 11mm. ... The little leaves were only about 2 inches in length, but it's all about the hope of follow up rain. The last 24 hours means that he and his neighbours will be able to get a real kick along. A cow will be able to wrap her tongue around him in only a few days and she'll then be able to up the quality of the milk she's producing for her new calf. Not many mouthfuls and she'll start to put the condition back on herself. A few drops of rain completes the circle for everyone. #curtinsprings #nativegrasses #howcleverismothernature # See more

07.01.2022 Thryptomene is one of our beautiful native plants that plays a really important role as a fire retardant on the sandhills. They have done it pretty tough over the last year with many of the plants now looking all but dead. However, it appears they have a little trick up their sleeve. ... Today the gentle rain has meant that the plants could hold the raindrops on their branches for a looonnnggg time. How clever!

06.01.2022 Look at what Mr Graham captured! We had about 5mm of rain, the double rainbow and a heartfelt nod to the Blue Tree and all it stands for during this difficult time for everyone. Mother Nature telling us she does care! ... Blue Tree Project #bluetreeproject #talktosomeone

04.01.2022 It has been a very long and dry few years. The weather forecasts are stalked daily, the sky is watched constantly, the animals are wrapped in the best care we can give them, we are grieving the loss of large stands of mulga trees (usually the most hardy of plants), and crying over our nurseries of desert oaks who are begging for a drink. ...... please, please, please, don't tease us. A forecast like this has us on tenderhooks.... part of us is elated.... part of us dreads the potential for it do change again in a heart beat.

03.01.2022 Voice - Persistent calling in summer storms. What a lovely description of the pratincole from George Adams. Maybe he is a little harbinger for a long wet summer? We usually see them right up the northern end of the station when there is water in the dams. We don't often see them around the homestead area, but this guy was enjoying the green pick under the big sprinkler.... He can be anywhere he wants if he brings the rain! #curtinsprings #birdsinthedesert #whatbirdisthat

01.01.2022 After the feral cat got into the chook pen we are looking to replace laying hens. If anyone has any details or suggestions about who may have hens AND OR chickens in Alice Springs, that would be appreciated.
