25.01.2022 A little look at some of the beautiful work Janine Combes has made for Gilded Encounters. ‘Artefact’ bar Pin, ‘and the lights came on’ earrings (Hadley’s was a forerunner of electric lighting in hotel rooms!) and ‘through the keyhole’ brooch. Come to the Hotel, pick up a ‘map’ of the exhibition and discover these and many more works.

Olivia & curator @amyjackett visited Janine Combes Jewellery & Sophie Carnell Contemporary Jewellery in their studios on Bruny today for some filming. 09.01.2022 Three delicious neckpieces for Gilded Encounters by Sarah Stubbs: ‘John Webb bakes’. Crafted from porcelain and copper, the shapes echo the fancy pastries and sweet delights created and served by John Webb in an early iteration of Hadley’s Orient Hotel-Webb’s Hotel.

08.01.2022 A fantastic couple of photos by Jessica King of Sophie Carnell’s lapel pin for Sir William Don. Don was a famous patron of Hadley’s Orient Hotel and often stayed there after performances at the Theatre Royal. Gilded Encounters continues until the end of February.

05.01.2022 Sarah has been getting up the ladder in among the chandeliers at Hadley’s taking impressions of the textures and patterns of the cornices into porcelain. 01.01.2022 Part of Alex Parish’s body of work for Gilded Encounters was created from baking tins, referencing the pastry shop that was established on the site well before Hadley’s Orient Hotel came into being.
