21.01.2022 Happy Birthday PB

20.01.2022 A VERY SPECIAL BIRTHDAY STORY TO SHARE - HAPPY 50th BIRTHDAY TO AUTO ACTION I wouldn’t normally ask people to share my posts but as this is a very special time ...and as some of our normal methods of promotion are shut down, I thought I should put this message out. Today is an incredibly special day, not for my own personal reasons but for the motor sport scene generally in this country, as it was exactly 50 years ago today, February 24th 1971 that the first issue of Auto Action went on sale. In the issue of Auto Action on sale tomorrow (Thursday or digital tonight) the complete first edition has been reproduced. We can all thank Len Shaw, the man who first thought that it might be a good idea to produce a fortnightly motor sport newspaper back in 1970, and 50 years later we have managed to drag the old girl over the line to her 50th birthday and our biggest issue ever, all 92 pages! I know Len would be enormously proud and would be the first one to thrust a beer into my hand and say well done. So I raise my glass and say cheers Len, it was a bloody great idea! So, its 50 years and I must commemorate this important moment with a few thoughts and to acknowledge all the effort that has been put in over the past 50 years by a massive group of people, many who are still part of the media, the sport and the motor racing industry and a few that are still part of the Auto Action team to this day. I am now even more acutely aware of all the hard work that a fantastic group of people have contributed to Auto Action making it to its 50th anniversary edition. Over the 50 years, it’s something like 17 editors (a couple were silly enough to have a go at it twice) and hundreds more people who have been involved in producing Australia’s oldest and most respected motor sport publication. Be it the editorial teams, designers and production staff, advertising sales team members, our wonderful photographers and fantastic contributors, all of who have worked hard over the years to make Auto Action a publication that is now 50 years old. They were and are, a dedicated and hardworking group, who above all have been committed to delivering the absolute best motor sport publication that they could. Job well done. So, to all that have been part of Auto Action’s success and survival, I acknowledge every one of you and all that you have done to contribute to Auto Actions history. All this in an age where the printed word is supposed to be a thing of the past. It’s only now after weeks of stress and pressure that I can have a chance to think about all that has gone on over the past few weeks in the build up to this significant milestone. When just 45 years old and after AA was rudely shut down in early 2016, most people thought it was the end. I thought not! After a few battles to find funding and negotiating deals to buy the title, I was lucky to find a business partner in an old motor racing buddy and nearly five years ago Mike Imrie and I put a team together to rescue the old girl. Lots have hard work and dedication over that time and here we are still going strong. Mike has since moved on, but I thank him for his support. I want to thank all that have been a part of getting this special issue of Auto Action over the line including the team that is part of Auto Action today. Too many to name right now and in a line often used, they know who they are. So Happy Birthday Auto Action and thanks to you all that have been part of the production of the publication and to all the wonderful readers who have continued to support the magazine by purchasing it each fortnight. It would be great if this special issue might sell out so as they say, do yourselves a favor and go out and grab one. Thanks and regards Bruce Williams.
