25.01.2022 A threat to our Hoodies! Sea Spurge, Euphorbia paralias, is a foreshore weed native to Europe, Africa and Asia. It invades coastal areas, smothering out native vegetation and covers open sand areas, displacing beach nesting birds such as the threatened Hooded Plover, Thinornis rubicollis. Luckily, we have been working closely with project partners Borough of Queenscliffe, Barwon Coast Committee of Management and Bellarine Bayside to help stop the spread of Spurge on the Bellarine Peninsula. Come Join Us! www.cva.org.au

16.01.2022 What a hoot! The Powerful Owl, Ninox strenua, is Australia's largest Owl, and can be found throughout most of Victoria, and Eastern Australia. This fella was spotted by one of our staff North-East of Melbourne. Have you been lucky enough to see one in the Geelong area? Check out more about this fab species at Birds in Backyards https://bit.ly/33E6VoZ
16.01.2022 Mirror mirror on the dune Native to New Zealand, the Mirror Bush, Coprosma repens, is extremely hardy and can tolerate many conditions including drought, salt, frost and many soil types. It is this hardiness that makes it such a threat to our local dune systems, forming dense clumps, smothering and impeding indigenous vegetation, which leads to dune erosion Learn more about this pesky species http://vro.agriculture.vic.gov.au//weeds_shrubs_mirror_bush
15.01.2022 We can't sweep this one under the rug Flax-leaved Broom, Genista linifolia, is a shrubby plant native to the Mediterranean. Popular in gardens due to its pretty yellow pea flower, Broom is now recognised as a Weed of National Significance (WONS) and must be controlled. Come Join Us! as we help our friends at Bellarine Bayside sweep through stunning Point Richards tackling Broom and other pest plants https://bookings.conservationvolunteers.org//northern-bell
