11.01.2022 Calling all froggers! 6-15 November is FrogID Week - Australia’s biggest frog count. Whether you visit your local creek, pond, nature reserve, or your own ba...ckyard every recording of a frog call contributes to the FrogID team’s research. The data obtained during FrogID Week allows researchers to gain an ‘audioshot’ of Australia’s frogs each year. It helps researchers measure frog health and their distribution around Australia, and how this may have changed over time. Our amphibian friends also play a key role in Australian ecosystems. Observing frog populations can give us a good indication of ecosystem health as frogs are sensitive to environmental change. It’s easy to get involved and the FrogID app is free to download. Head over to the FrogID webpage to learn more: https://portal.frogid.net.au/frog-id-week : Green and Golden Bell Frog (Litoria aurea) Stephen Mahoney (Australian Museum)

09.01.2022 Hi all, if you are lucky enough to see turtles nesting, please keep your distance. And contact Turtle Watch Mackay to let them know. Please do not share the location on social media. We need to help these little guys as much as we can.

09.01.2022 BalloonsThey might be a symbol of celebration, but not for our environment. Helium balloons can travel to parks, bushland or out to sea where wildlife can beco...me tangled in the string. Also, sea animals like turtles can often mistake them for food, which can have devastating consequences So instead of using balloons at your next big bash, opt for biodegradable or recyclable decorations that won't leave our planet with a party hangover. #litterfighter #tidyaussie #trashtalktuesday #tenlittlepieces #plasticfree #ecofriendly #take3forthesea #environment #recycle #sustainability #fightwaste #banballoons

07.01.2022 It's National Recycling Week everyone! Learn what you can do to reduce waste and recycle properly.

06.01.2022 Did you know that right now, there are more microplastics in our waters than there are stars in the Milky Way? As a continuation from last #savethereefsunday, t...his week your challenge is to #REFUSE! Yes - Recycling is great! Especially when it's done right! However, did you know that there are many, many steps you can take to reduce the amount that needs to be recycled in the first place? STEP 1: Refuse single-use items! If you can avoid plastic cutlery, plastic bottles and single use bags - then by all means do! It's so easy to bring your own set of utensils, a tupperware container, or a tote bag. By doing so, you're halting the item from going to landfill or to be recycled (that is if it successfully makes it all the way! STEP 2: Start shopping consciously. REFUSE buying items that are encased in plastic or non-reusable packaging. Bulk food stores, or even just buying fresh produce can minimize your plastic footprint significantly! Here are some items that you can easily refuse today: - Plastic straws - Plastic bags - Produce bags - Plastic styrofoam or to go containers - Cling wrap - Plastic toothbrushes What you can use instead: - Paper or metal straws - Canvas or other fabric bags - Reusable water bottles - Glass or metal containers - Bamboo toothbrushes - Wax paper, silicone wrap - BYO metal utensils! Challenge yourself to refuse single-use items and choose reusable ones instead! By all doing our small parts, we can make a difference and all contribute in the feat to #protectouroceans and #saveourreef! #reefcheckaustralia #savethereefsunday #refuse #Reefcycle #takeaction #allhandsondeck

05.01.2022 Really looking forward to this! Sharing info, and planting seeds for population resillience, alongside a passionate and diverse bunch of people up in the Yeppoo...n/ Rockhampton area. Pandanus Planthoppers have spread rapidly across the region, threatening eastern Queenslands largest remaining unaffected Pandanus populations (Farnborough Beach north to Byfield National Park). Drone Footage: https://youtu.be/T4FZEy5uz5c There's been so much support, many people to thank, for now a big thanks to the crew from Surfrider Foundation and Fitzroy Basin Ascociation for making this event possible!
