17.01.2022 - The pic below might look humorous, but it's a good depiction of and it's anything but humorous. People steal donations left outside at the Thrift Shop. They sneak in on foot or with empty car boots under the cover of darkness, either one person or in groups, and they're rummaging through bags, making a mess, throwing your donatio...ns around and stealing whatever they can carry. We have good security cameras and footage is forwarded to police. Mostly the culprits are caught. However, we don't necessarily get your donations back as they're generally sold for quick cash. ' : * Drop your donations off when there are staff onsite to take inside: Mon 8am - 1pm; Wed & Fri 8.00am - 3pm. * If you can't drop off during these times, drop off early in the morning Mon/Wed/Fri, after the sun comes up, so items don't sit out overnight. * Place everything you can into the donation bins onsite, in Woolworths carpark or Mitre 10 carpark. Please seal bags so items don't spread through the bin and don't place breakables in the bins, even wrapped - they break with the weight on top. * If you have a large load, cannot bring it in during the times listed above and live in the local area, please call us on 8842 1277 or send us a Facebook message and we'll be happy to collect it from you. 03.01.2022 ... Every Monday morning, Brian brings inside the donations left onsite over the weekend. This involves moving huge amounts of items left under the verandah, and emptying the donation bins. He then heads into town to empty two more donation bins, filling the ute tray, then unloading the ute to bring the donations inside for sorting. He supports other volunteers by unpacking, sorting, cleaning and emptying bins - he just sees what needs do...ing. Every Thursday while no one is onsite, Brian spends a couple of hours taking all our hard rubbish to the dump. He does this rain or shine, and it often takes more than one trip. He separates out metal and cords, for which we can receive money for recycling. The dump runs save the Thrift Shop hundreds of dollars a year, which would be otherwise spent on having the skip bin emptied. I've never heard Brian complain about the work he does, regardless of how messy it can be. Brian works incredibly hard doing work that would go unnoticed to many, but is a huge support to other volunteers. Brian's patience, willingness to work when the weather would keep most of us inside, and the support he provides is wonderful. ! . See more
