25.01.2022 A very happy Fathers Day to all the awesome Dads and father figures out there!

24.01.2022 Assure's crew have been assisting our colleagues from Australian Maritime Safety Authority - AMSA this morning. AMSA has various aerial assets ready to deploy for searches. Fortunately this morning's tasking was a search pattern training exercise to locate our orange mate and a wayward life jacket. It's reassuring even for us that we live in a place that has exceptional emergency services agencies and personnel ready to go.

24.01.2022 Massive thanks to General Crane Services for giving us a lift today! :)

23.01.2022 A snapshot of what we got up to in December. VH6CL standing by...

23.01.2022 Bookend rescues for our teams today. Callout crews on Avail IV braved the cold early this morning to jump start a vessel near the D9. Team Assure are only just back after assisting a vessel off Woodman Point with a carburettor issue. ... Our regular shift crew had an awesome day training and hanging out with mates :)

22.01.2022 An early start for our crew today to assist a 28ft vessel with a water pump issue. Glassy conditions this morning, so if youre heading out dont forget to let us know via radio on 27.90 or VHF 73. VH6CL standing by.

22.01.2022 Our poet who didnt know it. Recently we were going through some old records and came across these gems written by our life member Ian McNaughton. Ian spent many hours on radio watch, and we retrieved some of his scratchings from the back of old radio log sheets destined for the shredder. ... With Ians permission, they were just too good not to share, and were certain our sea rescue colleagues will relate :)

22.01.2022 Great work team!

21.01.2022 We took the opportunity between training tasks this morning to get some pics of our girls AVAIL IV and ASSURE. Not too many out today with a brisk northerly blowing, but always great to be on the water. Our 24/7 operations number is 0409 103 029 should you need us :)

20.01.2022 Going, going, gone! Not a great day to lose steering with some big swell around. Our team today on Avail assisted this vessel home from west of Seaward reef after they developed a steering failure.

19.01.2022 Saturday crew getting their bruschetta on :) A good feed and the team are ready for anything!

18.01.2022 Marine Navigation course in one location today, Long Range Operators Certificate of Proficiency in another. Our team strive to offer the best service possible, and ongoing training is the key!

18.01.2022 It seems our crew are developing a taste for the finer things between jobs :) Hope your weekend is going great so far!

17.01.2022 Great teamwork between Western Australia Police Force and our crew on Assure this afternoon to rescue two kite surfers. Water Police tasked their vessel TW154 and Assure to search for the kiters after receiving a call. They were located approximately 1km west of Coogee beach. The wind had dropped and they were unable to self recover back to land. TW154 recovered one kiter and Assure the other. Both were transferred to Assure and taken back to land in good health.

16.01.2022 It was an absolute pleasure to host one of our life members Val Williams this morning. Along with her late husband Rick, Val served the group for 29 years, initially as boat crew but later as a highly valued radio operator. Whilst not operational now, she hasnt lost any of her radio etiquette, proven today while chatting to AVAIL IVs crew as they did a run past HQ for her.... Val won a FESA award in 1999 for her dedication to volunteer marine rescue services. Thanks for everything Val :)

16.01.2022 Last night we received a call with reports that 3 men were clinging to an upturned hull in Owen Anchorage. Western Australia Police Force vessel TW152 and Assure arrived on scene to find that the 3 persons were now safely onboard a recreational vessel that was passing. The capsized 26' yacht lost its keel and flipped becoming a navigational hazard. She was slowly towed to Jervoise Bay by Assure.... Well done to the passing vessel for being vigilant, and a reminder to all of us about our responsibility to assist others that need help on the water.

15.01.2022 Assure and her crew along with Western Australia Police Force vessel TW152 were tasked to assist a yacht that was on the rocks at Coogee tonight. A fuel issue as the vessel was leaving port left her without power and the south westerly did the rest. The vessel sustained rudder damage and a submerged outboard. The solo sailor was unhurt and the vessel towed back to safety.

15.01.2022 We joined Dingo Marley and her crew from Marine Rescue Bunbury for sea trials in Cockburn Sound when she was first launched. We love the story behind the name :)

15.01.2022 Our crew have been talking up their culinary skills recently, so after some first aid training this morning the challenge was on. With Assures team allocated from Carnac south on the chart table to prepare, and Avail the north, the Masterclass was on. After a quick interlude to fix a finger from trying to dice tomatoes too small it was back on. We can assure you both tasted sensational, but which would you go for? :)

14.01.2022 Getting chased by lightning tonight! We received call for assistance from a vessel with 1 person onboard with an electrical issue just as the lightning show started and the wind picked up. Fortunately it coincided with our training night so we had a crew ready at hand to head over to Luscombe Bay and get him under tow back to shore. ... A very happy camper once alongside!

14.01.2022 So we've had to make a rule that there's no goodies before the first job!

12.01.2022 Final run into Rottnest. Congratulations to all swimmers, kayakers and support crew participating in the South32 Rottnest Channel Swim today. Assure & Avail crews unanimously agreed we prefer to stay on rather than in the water :)

12.01.2022 Never fun breaking down - especially if youre 25 miles offshore. AVAIL and her crew zipped out this afternoon to bring this 6.8m vessel home after she lost propulsion with a coupling failure. ... A reminder that VH6CL is always standing by.

12.01.2022 An urgent call for assistance this afternoon and Assures crew was quickly deployed. This vessel split a fuel line, and strong westerly winds pushed it against the outer breakwater of the AMC marina in short order. The two occupants were able to scramble onto the rocks to safety. Assure successfully retrieved the vessel to the ramp, and returned to collect the occupants from the breakwater.... Whilst the vessel has some war wounds, were pleased that her crew came out unscathed.

11.01.2022 As we are unaffected by the news ban we thought we would take the opportunity to advise everyone - Learn from this guy how to tie mooring knots!

10.01.2022 Some great footage from our Norwegian counterparts assisting a solo yachtsman with an injured back. Volunteers around the world making a difference :)

10.01.2022 Not the best of nights to be on the water, but perfect for demonstrating to our crew just how difficult searching at night can be. Well done team for braving the cold and wet conditions without complaint :)

09.01.2022 Avail crew came across this 13 metre sailing vessel today. She had grounded near Owen Anchorage with the low tide and strong winds, and just needed a little help from us to get underway again. We hope everyone is safe from the fire in Kwinana, with the Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA doing an awesome job as usual both on land and from the air.

09.01.2022 Did someone say Snapper season closes soon? :) Dont forget to let us know if youre heading out to catch dinner. VH6CL standing by.

09.01.2022 FLASHBACK FRIDAY Our radio room circa 1989 and now. Did you know we provide radio coverage 24 hours a day, every day of the year?... Dont forget to log on with our team when heading out :)

09.01.2022 Not exactly what we were looking for tonight, but at least Dino here made it back to land safely. Assure crew were looking for a kite that had parted ways with its owner who is fortunately safe. We'll chalk it up as a success anyway :)

08.01.2022 Two for the price of one! Was very convenient for this second vessel to break down in the path of our existing tow :) Assure's crew did the old double-raft trick and put them alongside safe & sound. ... Are you heading out to see off 2020? Don't forget to let us know! VH6CL standing by.

08.01.2022 Cool shot departing the marina taken as the fog was lifting this morning. Always best to stay clear of these guys as they round the north cardinal marker we affectionately call Blinking Billy. Hope you had a fantastic weekend!

08.01.2022 Heading out tomorrow? Remember to only use the western ramps...oh and log on with us! VH6CL standing by.

06.01.2022 Great work from the Mooloolaba crew yesterday!

05.01.2022 Assure crew back home after assisting this 28ft International from Challenger Passage tonight. A shredded drive belt prevented her coming home under her own steam. Call us if you need us via marine radio or phone - were listening 24/7.

04.01.2022 Six jobs in the last few days for our team. An oil pump issue for this one, so Assures crew assisted them back to Woodman Point from just west of Port Coogee. We can be contacted by radio 24/7, or by phone on 0409-103-029.

04.01.2022 Loss of steering must be the theme of the week! This 40ft cabin cruiser needed a hand back to Port Coogee after her rudders jammed hard to port. How good is the water though :)

04.01.2022 Training last night focused on our electronics, with crew covering charts, GPS, RADAR, FLIR and RDF. A far cry from the early days when our team went out with an "electronics package" that consisted of one 27Mhz radio!

04.01.2022 FLASHBACK FRIDAY Our original boatshed built to house the groups first rescue vessel AVAIL. Prior to AVAIL being commissioned, private vessels were used to perform rescues.... One thing that hasnt changed over all these years.... the dedication of our volunteers to assisting those in need.

03.01.2022 Crayfish 1 Boat 0 Our crew have been on the go since 5am this morning with 2 jobs completed. Surely it's time for a coffee :)

03.01.2022 It's a reassuring feeling that when we leave the jetty we have a rock solid platform beneath us. This is a great short bio for Shockwave Powercats and even features our #1 crew member Ruby!

02.01.2022 FLASHBACK FRIDAY Alpha 888...aka AVAIL II was officially launched in January 1991. She was immediately put to work with a rescue tow from Carnac Island later that day, and she served our group for a further ten years.... Anyone remember being rescued by AVAIL II? :)

02.01.2022 A quick run down to the D9 tonight to assist a vessel with a broken steering cable.... and no fish :(

02.01.2022 The Marine Rescue Cockburn app was originally designed for our awesome volunteers to easily access the resources they need. For the general public, there are many useful resources to access with safety in mind. This free app offers local-interest features such as fishing spots, boat ramp locations, known navigational hazards around Cockburn Sound as well as the location of fish attracting devices in the area. Our app also offers guidance on how to correctly use a marine radio..., including how to log on and off with local marine rescue groups. You can download a marine radio user guide or listen to an example log on and log off. Links to commonly used expert sites are all in one easily-accessible location, as well as our contact details should you need us!

01.01.2022 FLASHBACK FRIDAY AVAIL and her buddy R100 out doing their thing :) We still work closely with our mates from Fremantle Sea Rescue, and these two vessels along with those that followed can sure tell some stories.... Have a fantastic Friday!

01.01.2022 As the sun sets on 2020, we wish everyone a very Happy New Year! Stay safe whether on or off the water, and remember VH6CL is always standing by.

01.01.2022 Refuelling the crew :) VH6CL standing by.

01.01.2022 Flashback Friday A great technique for saving space, but we dont recommend mooring your boat vertically :) We came across this in our archives but dont really know the story. Do you?... As for stories, read about ours here: https://bit.ly/2EdaB92

01.01.2022 Bedtime for our girls after another great training night :)
