25.01.2022 CWA Awareness Week @ Dorrigo Library (6-13 September) - a huge thank you to our Members, Barbara and Edwina for putting together the display for everyone to see. CWA focus this year is on domestic violence and is asking the local community to take a stand against domestic violence in their own towns and suburbs. This year’s Awareness Week is shining the spotlight on domestic violence and the confronting statistics that underline the need for urgent action in the areas of support services, perpetrator rehabilitation and prevention programs, particularly in rural and regional NSW, where this kind of assistance can be hours away.

21.01.2022 Virgin Australia says flights on 10 routes will not resume in the foreseeable future, as it continues its post-coronavirus restructure. Flights to Uluru, Tamwor...th, Port Macquarie, Albury, Mildura, Hervey Bay, and Cloncurry had been jettisoned during the COVID-19 pandemic. The service from Sydney to Tonga will also not resume. A Virgin Australia spokesperson said in a statement it's not commercially viable to operate flights to the affected destinations with the expected demand. The airline is restructuring its fleet to primarily use Boeing 737 aircraft, removing smaller planes commonly flown to regional destinations.

19.01.2022 It's an ambitious dream Tennis champion Pat Rafter assists with the first step of creating a koala corridor that stretches from Bangalow to the Clarence, ...out to Tenterfield and back through the Lismore LGA. It will take many millions of trees and volunteer hours but Bangalow Koalas is confident they'll ace it especially with a little star power like Pat Rafter to encourage more volunteers and landholders to sign up.

12.01.2022 ***STATEMENT FROM CWA OF NSW IN RELATION TO THE APPROVAL OF THE NARRABRI GAS PROJECT*** The CWA of NSW is today totally disillusioned with state planning proces...ses after the Independent Planning Commission’s approval of the Santos Narrabri Gas Project. CWA of NSW CEO Danica Leys stated that it beggars belief how a project requiring 134 strict conditions can even proceed to approval. If a project needs this many conditions, it’s an indication that they need to go back to the drawing board. It doesn’t stack up. We’re concerned that compliance on conditions is severely lacking in any case. We’ve seen it in the past with mining and other extractive projects. These companies get the green light and off they go, there’s no looping back to ensure all of these conditions are upheld into the future. Rural communities once again are left with the impacts. We’re pleased to see some requirements in the IPC report relating to waste management and salt reuse or disposal. This is a significant concern and we’ll be keeping a close eye on where Santos proceed in this regard. However other impacts such as groundwater and impacts on farming activities, remain as significant concerns. We believe that the insurance issue is also yet to be adequately addressed. The Chief Scientist has directed the NSW Government to fix it, the Upper House inquiry said fix it before any gas projects can proceed. It hasn’t been addressed and yet here we are. We know the economic impacts have been inflated, we know there are still no proper assurances on the environmental impacts. With such significant community objection and now an approval with a huge amount of conditions our members are increasingly disillusioned with the whole process.
