21.01.2022 Twice this week, I have watched an elderly individual, fade into the busy life in which we all live. One man just needed Panadol for his wife but the shop assis...tant simply said it’s in ‘6’. But he struggled to navigate the supermarket and as I watched him go in the wrong direction, I left all my groceries and took him where he needed to go. Today, I watched an elderly man struggle in the heat, who had obviously had a fall with a huge scrape and blood on his leg. He walked past people in the cafe, while he slowly made his way to his car. Not one person stopped. Or looked. Or acknowledged him. I took him to his car and checked he was ok. He told me he had a fall and wasn’t sure how the air con worked in his car so he just didn’t use it. I sat with him, until his air con kicked in and heard him talk about the old frail body that he is in, that fails him now, every single day. When you see an elderly person walking down the street, searching in the supermarket or struggling to their car, take a minute out of your busy schedule and ask them if they need a hand. Think about your grand parents and your parents and how pissed you would be if someone didn’t stop to help them. But more, think of them as you. Once upon a time they were you. They were busy, they had work, they had children, they were able.... Today, they are just in an older body that is not going as fast as it used to and this busy life is fucking confusing. They deserve our utmost respect and consideration. One day it will be you, it will be us. I wish more people gave a shit about them and acknowledged them for their admirable existence and geez I hope someday, not that far away, someone does it for me. 10.01.2022 I have to say, I totally agree with this. As I sat in a cafe drinking my coffee and eating my sandwich 2 paramedics (who were obviously taking a chance to grab ...A quick bite between jobs) came in and joined the queue waiting to get their breakfast and cuppa. Just as they got to the till they got a message on the radio. They had to go at once. They both laughed and said "that always happens to us!" Then they both rushed out to help someone. Paramedics have one of the most important jobs in the world. Everyone else in the queue was just after a quick snack and a drink whilst shopping etc. Why don't we all we use this social media to get people (and companies) to allow paramedics and all other emergency services to jump the queue and get served as soon as they come in? That way they have a better chance of getting a drink and perhaps some food before they go on their day helping people. Can all my friends and their friends please share this post so it can reach other people who might give up their place in the queue to emergency service workers? I would always happily stand back and let them go in front of me after all their next job could be me or someone I know or I love. If you agree then say so here then 'like' and perhaps share this if you care. Thank you.

10.01.2022 The Country Women’s Association of NSW donated a whopping $34,000 to Endometriosis research yesterday. More than 730,000 (over 10%) of Australian women suffer ...with endometriosis, with the disease often starting in teenagers. Diagnosis can take between 4 to 12 years. Endometriosis is an enigmatic and relentless disease that struck my younger sister Emily King four years ago. It took three years for Emily ( now 18) to be diagnosed despite multiple hospital admissions, tests, scans and surgery. Emily was unable to complete her education due to being in chronic pain 24/7, and as the disease progressed to stage 4, she lost all quality of life at which point my mum, Jane had to give up full time work to care for Emily. I moved home to support them both, I dispense the 150 tablets a week that Emily’s specialist team prescribe her. Mum can’t do it, it’s too heartbreaking. Endometriosis is very real, I am reminded of this when Emily has a really bad day and I have to carry her to bed because her legs won’t, when she turns grey and starts shaking with the pain and during her ongoing hospital admissions for treatment. Over the past year, Emily has spent weeks in hospital and was just recently discharged following her most recent admission. She battles on and won’t be defined by her illness. It’s hard to imagine that someone who looks so well can be so ill. Emily is one of 730,000 Australian women who suffer from Endometriosis. If you are in a position to make a donation to Endometriosis Australia, please do, every dollar will make a difference. Special thanks to The Country Women’s Association of NSW for all of the fundraising work you do and for creating awareness of Endometriosis in 2019. Cristian King And that’s not her dog visiting in the hospital!

06.01.2022 In our darkest moments we will fight for the things that colour our world. The Great Barrier Reef has been reported to have suffered a third mass bleaching ...event in as little five years. With so many of us already suffering, this news is really hard to stomach. We need to look after each other now, so that we can continue to protect the beautiful reef and the magnificent creatures that call it home. The fight against coal & climate change isn’t going anywhere, and it will need all of us healthy and safe to win. Share this post as a reminder that this wonder, and a world of colour, is worth protecting.

01.01.2022 I don't usually like dealing in hypotheticals. But this one's important because it's where we were heading just a few weeks ago. This morning Victoria's Chief... Health Officer released coronavirus modelling for our state. These projections tell us that without physical distancing, Victoria could be facing up to 58,000 new cases a day during the peak of the virus. 10,000 people would need ICU beds. 7,000 would need ventilators. And 650 Victorians would die. Every day. I want to reinforce how serious this is. Because I know some people are getting frustrated. It's difficult not being able to do the things you enjoy. But if we all started ignoring the advice I can assure you Victoria would become a very different place. And no game of golf or fishing trip is worth it. It's just not. The restrictions we have in place are working. The data shows us that. And the experience of other countries shows that lifting restrictions too quickly throws away all that hard work. So our message remains the same: Stay home. Protect our health system. Save lives.
