22.01.2022 This #AgDay we'd like to introduce you to one of our farming CWA members. Meet Jenny. "I live on a property near Illabo (18 km from Junee) in the Riverina. Ill...abo's population is 144. The name Illabo comes from an indigenous word meaning 'where', but some say the B, N and G once fell off the town sign! "This area of the Riverina is mainly cropping and sheep. My husband is an interstate truck driver - a front line worker - which means he is away from Sunday afternoon to Friday night or Saturday morning. I have him for 1 and a half days a week to help me do things on the farm I can't manage by myself. He is a wonderful husband and a hard working man. Part of our farm is leased to a neighbouring farmer. This year we have barley growing which will be harvested in the next week or so. It has been such a bumper season (which means we had rain at the right times) that parts of a lot of crops in the area are lying down because they are so heavy. This makes it more difficult and longer work for the harvesters. Weather permitting, the crops will make it safely into the many storage silos in the area. We have also planted and fenced off areas of the property for regeneration, which is going well since de-stocking happened 3 years ago. "My branch is Illabo Evening branch. Illabo branch originally opened in 1932 and closed in 1994. It was recently re-opened in October and already has 10 lovely members. I am the proud president and also the privileged president of Hume group and State Executive Committee Member representative."
