20.01.2022 Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas! No matter where you are, who you’re surrounded by today, if you’re alone, if you’ve got presents under the tree or not... you are loved, you are enough and I hope you find a reason to smile and some Christmas joy. And if you don’t, that’s okay too. Can’t wait to see you all in the New Year! Sending lots of love - CWA Perth Belles

We haven't had one for a while, so we felt it was time to throw open the doors, put on the kettle and let you all in! 20.01.2022 The Country Women’s Association is a not-for-profit, volunteer operated, women’s organisation aiming to improve the wellbeing of all people, especially those in country areas by promoting courtesy, cooperation, community effort, ethical standards and the wise use of resources. The CWA is founded on the pioneering spirit of strong women and principles of hard work, shared effort and friendship. The Perth Belles welcome all women (meaning all those who identify as) to join our ...community. We offer the chance to make new friends, and be part of the opportunity to make a difference. The CWA, and particularly Perth Belles, is #notjustfornannas we have members as young as early 20’s, and others who are young at heart! We have members with children, grandchildren, furchildren and no children. We have a broad range of professional backgrounds and life experiences and are always looking to add to our eclectic little family. There is no scone making, crochet, or knitting entrance examination, and we don’t even mind if you never pick up a ball of yarn! So what do we actually do? In 2019 we raised a lot of money and gave our time and love to support Canteen Youth Leadership group making capes out of bandannas, gathered a massive amount of donations for our Bags o’ Love campaign for women suffering domestic violence, encouraged the love of knit in public with our Stitch n Bitch series, and supported provision of low cost accommodation for over 55’s at CWA retirement units. In 2020, we’re continuing to support the Narrogin Rainbow Refuge, First Hike Project girls hike for refugees to welcome them to the bush, developing an online cookbook (with a twist!) and many other adventures. We have regular Crafternoons where we get together to work on our current projects (craft or otherwise) and socialise, other social meet-ups as well as our charitable activities and monthly branch meetings. So, if you are seeking friendship, fun and an ability to make positive changes in your community, get in touch with us. #chickswithattitude #notjustteaandscones #forallwomen

20.01.2022 Its World Blood Donor Day! Remember, if you are donating blood, make sure you register under the Perth Belles team!! Let's give give give for this important cause. So many people require blood donations during their life including (but definitely not limited to) patients involved in trauma accidents such as traffic crashes, cancer patients undergoing treatment and women who experience complications during childbirth. Donations save lives. ... If you are willing and able to donate, please make the time to do so. It's not a lot of time out of your week, it's not scary and it doesn't hurt. You can book an appointment by visiting www.lifeblood.com.au, calling 13 14 95 or downloading the Donate Blood app.

19.01.2022 The Painted Teapot Decision making is extremely hard, when you have so many beautiful pieces to pick from at the Painted Teapot in Subiaco! It really emphasised how different and creative we all are as individuals and cannot recommend this activity enough! Very excited to see the finished pieces once they’ve had their drying in the kiln! And even better, there was a coffee shop right next door! We will be back... by popular demand!

19.01.2022 It's meeting time! With restrictions lifting, we have been able to open back up to the public We do still need an RSVP to manage numbers, in line with our COVID Safety Plan, so if you are keen to come along and check us out tomorrow night, please let us know

17.01.2022 And that’s a WRAP #2020! We had our last monthly meeting for 2020 during the week and some of our very own Perth Belles, decided to participate in the Christmas Presents for Children In Care this year. They helped arrange beautiful presents for children who are in foster care and are not always able to receive presents during this time of the year. We want to say a big thank you to anyone else who has helped someone, whether it be this Christmas or something you plan on d...oing next year. If you’re interested in finding out more, get in touch with the Department of Communities or you can ask us a question, and we will help where we can.

12.01.2022 R E M I N I S C I N G To last weekend when Perth Belles made their way to York! A beautiful country town, with stunning sunset views, craft shops and delicious food! Where we worked on our upcoming Gin Cook Book, which included a fabulous photo shoot and most importantly, indulging in all of the wonderful food for afternoon tea. Mornings spent waking up without any alarms going off and having a hot beverage as the sun warms your legs on the veranda. ... A very big and warm thank you to the ladies at York CWA for joining our Sunday morning tea and showing us their amazing CWA rooms and sharing some rich history with us. Hope you all had a wonderful weekend and an even better week ahead

12.01.2022 Some of the Perth Belles recently pulled together to help out these two gentlemen who had fallen on hard luck. Our President, Kelly, heard about their situation and arranged for a collection of goods to be delivered to them to make their new living situation more homely (new housing was arranged by Department of Housing and was furnished, but needed a little cosy-ing up!). James and Robert are in their 80s and said it felt like Christmas when their package was delivered which included scarfs, beanies, stable tables, slippers, lap rugs, and bed blankets. We believe everyone has the right to a roof over the head, food in their belly, basic healthcare and warmth during the winter months, and one of the most rewarding thing we can do in groups such as the Perth Belles is contribute to helping those less fortune get and maintain these.

11.01.2022 NAIDOC WEEK With CWA Perth Belles based on Whadjuk Noongar Boodja land, we want to acknowledge that Australia was, and will always be Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander land. We also acknowledge that the history of Country did not originate through European documentation. ... We honour that the first footprints on this continent belongs to the First Nation people, who occupied and cared for this land for over 65,000 years. Image by Tyrown Waigana

10.01.2022 It’s 2021! First beautiful Monday for 2021! We hope everyone had a safe and beautiful break over Christmas and New Year and are ready to take on whatever 2021 may bring. We have been quiet for a while, but rest assure, a few special things are brewing ... If you’re interested in finding out more about what CWA Perth Belles get up to, feel free to shoot us as message on here or send us an email (Facebook link).

10.01.2022 W E E K E N D! How are you spending this wonderful weekend? Tell us in a comment, only using emojis

10.01.2022 AROUND THE CORNER... Craft Camp! How amazing, that we get to spend the weekend in such a history rich accomodation and town of York! Did you know... Our Barn was originally built in 1849 by pioneer Mr John Henry Monger as a coach house, stables and storehouse for his home 'Faversham House', in the historic town of York, Western Australia.... The property remained in Mr. Mongers family until World War II, when it was handed over to the Commonwealth Government and used by the Red Cross to house recovering servicemen and then War Veterans. During much of the 1950's, the property was uninhabited and became almost derelict. In 1963 the Uniting Church purchased the property and after some renovations, used the property as a conference centre. The barn and coach house was left to its own devices and became more derelict. In 1970 the York Girl Guides Unit was granted permission to begin a restoration effort on part of the barn complex to use as their meeting hall. This project however, was far larger than they initially thought, and in late 1971, the project was taken over by Mrs Ida Lloyd a Girl Guides Western Australia State Executive Committee Member. The project was then expanded and taken on by the State organisation. Members throughout the State worked and fundraised, first to purchase the property and later to re-build and renovate the building. Finally on May Day 1977 His Excellency Governor of Western Australia, Sir Wallace Kyle, officially opened Our Barn.

10.01.2022 Were pretty keen on the joys of yarn and we LOVELOVELOVE that its not just women learning to love a good knit habit. Knit or crochet is fantastic for stress, you make beautiful things, spend less time in your screen and exercise your hands and mind! When you knit, you are part of a glorious community of other makers and it is not gender restricted. Men knit. Boys crochet. Its only since the middle of last century that the gender divide became entrenched in our yarn crafts.... More men should knit (or crochet). Its portable, cheap to start, easy to learn and dont need a garage and power tools. The perfect hobby for all ages and genders!

09.01.2022 1 week till our August meeting! If you want to come along and see what we are all about, drop us a message.

02.01.2022 W I L U N A Wiluna, you are wildly untamed and beautiful. Three weeks ago, I was extremely fortunate to go into a remote Western Australian community called Wiluna, as a volunteer with NASCA (National Aboriginal Sporting Chance Academy). For over 20 years NASCA has worked closely with young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in NSW, NT and WA. They work with the kids in schools to strengthen their resilience, cultural pride and identity, develop life skills and... ensure they take all the opportunities they can. I got to spend a week up there, where a small group of us immersed ourselves into Wiluna school and the focus of all of our activities for the week being trust! We also played afternoon sport and had the opportunity to bond with the kids and school teachers. I only wish that I could give as much back to Wiluna and the community, as what they had given to me with this experience. A place and people I will always cherish. A priceless experience. For more information, go have a look at their Facebook page. https://nasca.org.au/
