23.01.2022 The 2020 CWAS AstroFest has been cancelled. Owing to the unprecedented Coronavirus situation facing our nation, the 2020 CWAS AstroFest organising committee has reluctantly decided to cancel this year’s AstroFest. It is simply unsafe to hold the event, as planned. As you may well appreciate, the uncertainty caused by the fast-changing events, has meant that the planning for the AstroFest has been made near impossible. None-the-less, despite this set back, the 2020 CWAS David... Malin Awards is unaffected and will go ahead. Submissions open on Wednesday, 1 April 2020. To ease the situation, the deadline for submissions has been extended by one month to Tuesday, 30 June 2020. Once matters have stabilised, and it is safe to travel once again, the winners will be announced at a special function to be held later in the year, on a date to be determined. Details of this year's CWAS David Malin Awards, along with the link to submit entries, can be found at the following web page: https://www.parkes.atnf.csiro.au/news_events/astrofest/DMA/ The decision to cancel the AstroFest was not easy, but our paramount concern was for the safety of all involved. We thank you for your understanding and look forward to seeing you at next year’s CWAS AstroFest. On behalf of the 2020 CWAS AstroFest Organising Committee.

09.01.2022 The 2020 CWAS David Malin Awards The CWAS is proud to announce the theme for this year's "David Malin Awards". It is: Astrophotography with your Smartphone... Smart phones are everywhere and some are capable of impressive low light-level photography. We are looking for images that have been taken with a smartphone of an astronomical scene that has some aesthetic appeal and/or that has captured something you might not expect to see from such a tiny camera. More details about this year's competition will be made available in the coming weeks. Keep checking this page for updates. Clear Skies!

07.01.2022 The 2019 CWAS "David Malin Awards" The Central West Astronomical Society is proud to announce the 2019 CWAS Astrophotography Awards judged by Dr David Malin - t...he "David Malin Awards". For information and details of this year’s competition, please visit: http://www.parkes.atnf.csiro.au/news_events/astrofest/DMA/ This year, the CWAS AstroFest will be a special event. It will be incorporated with the Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Open Days being held at the CSIRO Parkes Telescope from 20-21 July 2019. The theme for this year’s competition is naturally enough, Memories of Apollo. In a year celebrating the first Apollo lunar landing it seems appropriate to involve the Moon in our 2019 theme. But how? That is up to you, but ideally with a memorable image that in some way reflects the great adventure of Apollo and which evokes the inspiration and awe that people experienced at the time and since. The intention is to encourage people with vision and creativity, perhaps using simple equipment, such as a tripod and ordinary camera, to make striking images of the Moon that evoke the memories of the Apollo missions. Entry submissions open on Monday, 1 April, and close on Friday, 31 May 2019. Details of the Open Days will be posted here as they are announced. Keep checking as more information is added. http://www.parkes.atnf.csiro.au/news_events/opendays/2019/ See also: https://www.csiro.au//spacecraft-tr/apollo-11-moon-landing You may also like to book your accommodation early.
