19.01.2022 I’ve poured all my grief into this milk brand Every time I’m on my family farm here in Lakes Entrance I’m reminded of my beautiful Dad, wishing that he was aro...und to see what we are doing and to share the stories (there are many !!!) Dads suicide has deeply impacted me, more than I probably think it has. As we inch closer to obtaining our factory licence I’ve been surprised at what emotions it’s trigged. This week in particular I’ve felt a deep spiritual awareness and have been in tears as reality starts to sink in of the enormity of what we are building - it’s hard work being positive disruptors in the dairy industry and Gippsland Jersey is far more than just a milk brand - it’s deeply personal! Some people get tattoos to remember lost loved ones; I’ve helped to create a milk brand that honours the life of a special man - ‘Mike Bowen’ who was an Australian dairy pioneer and someone that I deeply loved, respected and cherished. My personal mission with Gippsland Jersey is to create social change in rural mental health so that men like my dad don’t think it’s weak to get help. There’s definitely a perception that services like Lifeline is a last resort thing but it should actually be the first place [to get help] because resources like the callback line and text back service aren’t that scary - you can make the call in the back paddock or any safe place where nobody can hear you. Having that first honest conversation is the hardest and toughest thing you’ll do. You need to know that there are people in your world that WILL help you and there is ALWAYS hope! No matter what your situation is in life, there is ALWAYS a solution, even if you can’t see it - take it from a daughter that wishes her dad was still alive to see her reopen his milk factory Sallie Jones Co-Founder Gippsland Jersey Readers seeking support can contact Lifeline crisis support on 13 11 14 and Suicide Call Back Service on 1300 659 467.
