09.01.2022 Happy Member Monday on this glorious day!! Today we are super lucky to meet Elaine, our crochet queen who is more than accommodating with teaching others the basics. I credit all I know (admittedly, not much), to Elaine. I'm Elaine and I have always been crafty. My first degree was in fashion design and production (my second was physics!) and learnt to knit and sew as soon as my fingers could hold a needle - it was a way to keep me out of the trouble I'd find when I had not...hing to keep my fingers and brain busy. Seriously, thanks mum! My partner and I moved into the area three years ago with our son (and cat) in time for him to start school. Since then, we have had a lovely dog join the family too. We love it here. However, it wasn't super easy to meet people doing the Melbourne commute five days a week. We met Mel (our superstar Prezedente) and Kat who live round the corner and when we saw the notice that CWA was starting up we jumped at the opportunity to have a sticky beak. I'm a bleeding heart leftie and care deeply about sharing with others the good fortune I have had and the CWA seemed to be the perfect fit. How right I was. I have met some fabulous women and together we have baked, preserved and crafted our way to fundraising for the bushfires as well as local causes. I'm busy right now with crocheting as many ornaments as I can - see if you can spot them on my side table - for the Christmas pop up stall at the Macedon CWA stall on December 5th. See you there! Your skills are incredible Elaine, we can’t wait to see your entries at the next Kyneton Show!!! I love seeing what you create.

09.01.2022 After a busy weekend at the Lions Market, it’s that’s time of the week again - Member Monday! Well today is your lucky day - you get to meet TWO CWA Woodend Eves in one - Penny (who looks after all our social media, hi!) and one of our junior members, Evie (Penny’s energetic and vivacious nearly 5 year old daughter). Hi, we are Penny and Evie, and we are both members of the CWA Woodend Eves.... I can’t craft to save myself, my garden is non-existent, I’m desperately trying to learn to crotchet, but what I do love is baking cakes. The more nana the cake, the better. My grandma taught me to make scones from a young age, I have fond memories of making these with her and was always impressed that she never used a measuring cup. To me, that’s cooking. She was proper country! When I moved to town about 2 years ago, I was commuting on the 6:57am train to the city with a 3 year old and it was quite tough. I really wanted to meet some people that were friends for me. Then I saw the CWA were looking to start a branch in Woodsy, so I put myself out there and shyly went to a meeting. I’ve really feel supported and encouraged by my CWA sisters. They encourage many of my hair brain ideas and it’s a lot of fun workshopping with them. The ladies are continually dropping off baked goods, crotchet hooks and an obscene amount of delicious jams to me. I’ve also made things I never thought I would such as quince paste (um, delicious!), sweet mustard pickles, lemon butter and I’ve got some preserved lemons going at the moment. I’m determined to crotchet at least one Granny square, and with the ladies support I hope to finally get there. It’s been lovely forming genuine friendships with many, while also doing fantastic things for our community. We are a varied bunch, and I think that’s what makes us special. If you visit us at a market or event, you’ll see us chatting away with anyone and everyone, recruiting left right and centre, wanting others to share in the absolute joy we get from being around each other. I love that COVID hasn’t stopped us, we have a million ideas on the go and just watch us make them happen!

01.01.2022 A few of our city sisters from CWA Footscray paid us a visit at the market! We are here until 1pm today, please pop by.
