25.01.2022 #RecipeOfTheWeek If you like oranges you are going to love this cake - and we have some of the best oranges in the world. Support an Aussie farmer and buy a bag because 2 of these cakes is better than one! Only 3 ingredients are needed. We trialled it with regular condensed milk, skim condensed milk and a vegan one. Worked a treat each time.
23.01.2022 In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly... Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. - In Flanders Fields, John McCrae (1914)
23.01.2022 We need a little help, our stock is getting low, We want to make more jams but we haven’t got the dough. We need to buy new jars, old ones we cannot use, Perhaps a friendly business could be our new found muse?... COVID hit us hard, the hall we cannot hire, So our bank account to say the least is looking rather dire. We love our great community, we try and help a lot, A little cash is all we need not to be forgot. Our jams and pickles are a hit, in Ettalong they sell, Just hop down to Bendigo Bank to grab a jar, its swell. The more that we can make means money flowing in, Which means we get to do good work and fill our Guide Dog tin. So if you want to help us get the pots a-boiling, Just contact us through Facebook and we will do the toiling. For your valiant efforts, your business it will get Eternal love and gratitude and comments on the net. We will also make a pickle, your name upon the label, What more could you want to grace your dining table?
22.01.2022 #RecipeOfTheWeek If #MeatlessMonday is a thing for you then you will love this recipe! Not a lot of work involved for such a tasty dish. Serve hot with a crisp salad or your favourite veg. A vegan version can easily be made by using/making your own vegan pesto and using dairy-free spread in place of butter. Enjoy!
22.01.2022 If a picture paints a thousand words then so do these photos. Earlier this year we started a GoFundMe page to raise money for fire-resistant socks for our NSW Rural Fire Service volunteers who work tirelessly all year, every year to keep us safe. Why socks you ask? Because fire-resistant socks aren't part of the standard uniform issue for RFS volunteers and we, along with Central Coast Disaster Relief - CCDR, think they should be. ... On Tuesday with many thanks to Craig from Workin' Gear, Tim from Wilderness Wear and all of you who donated to our fundraiser, we handed over 400 pure Australian wool fire-resistant socks. We also donated 467 cooling neck-ties thanks to the sewing efforts of our busy members. Wool from Tasmania, socks made in Victoria by a 100% owned Australian company. Not only can we save feet but we can help a farmer, a manufacturer and keep people employed. Our goal is to cover all the RFS feet on the coast so if you can spare a few dollars this summer season please pop over to our campaign page and donate today! https://www.gofundme.com/f/hn2nt-pulling-our-socks-up-for-t If you have donated already, thank you! This would not have been possible without your support. #CCDisasterRelief #CCDR #CWAWoyWoy #GiveWhereYouLive

22.01.2022 #RecipeOfTheWeek The sweet taste of warmer weather is in every slice of this bread. Eat it on its own or toasted and lathered with your favourite buttery spread. "If you like piña coladas and getting caught in the rain then add half a cup of desiccated coconut and some reserved juice if you do. Please support an Aussie farmer and buy the Aussie tinned pineapple.
21.01.2022 #RecipeOfTheWeek Despite today being Friday the 13th, there is nothing spooky about these delicious biscuits. Easy to make and even easier to eat. They can also be made vegan by using your favourite plant based milk. You can also use regular wheat flour, spelt or gluten free flour. Ours were made using natural peanut butter so they spread out a bit more. If you're using normal peanut butter without so much oil they'll be slightly smaller and chunkier. Either way - delicious!
20.01.2022 What a difference a day makes...oh and a poem. Thank you just doesn't seem enough. We can now order jars and print our labels thanks to the generosity of Archie from Twenty Ninth Street Studio and Karlie and Hubby from Woy Woy Mechanical. If you would still like to help us we will gratefully accept jam, relish and pickle ingredients if you have them. Every little bit helps. Just contact us for more info! ... Thank you Coasties!
18.01.2022 #RecipeOfTheWeek If you don't like traditional fruit cake for Christmas then this could be your go to recipe. The delicious drunken fruit adds a certain festive flare to this wonderful cake. It comes to you from the culinary library of our very own Cookery Officer, Amy. Thank you for sharing it with us! Don't be afraid to experiment with your spirit of choice. Rum or Bourbon would be delightful additions!
17.01.2022 Our community is amazing! Last week the lovely Diane from Café DMR presented us with a large monetary donation from the sale of face masks she and a friend made over the past few months. The money will stay on the Peninsula where it will be used for the benefit of primary school children doing it tough. We will keep you updated as we progress with the project. ... Many thanks go to all of her loyal customers that purchased the masks to help make a difference in a local child's life.
16.01.2022 Tune the wireless to 92.5FM (or whip out the smartphone) this Wednesday and hear our President Jane on ABC Central Coast from 8:50AM. Jane will be speaking with Scott Levi about how, despite losing valuable hall-hire revenue due to COVID-19, we are still finding ways to support our community. So, dust off the radio or listen live here:... https://www.abc.net.au/radio/centralcoast/live/
16.01.2022 #RecipeOfTheWeek Who doesn’t love their family's favourite shepherds pie recipe? Secretly we all love that hearty mincey filling topped with buttery mashed potato - don't we? Well move over mash, we have a new player in town. Can easily work as a vegan version as most frozen potato gems are vegan. Simply substitute meat with TVP or plant-based mince of your choice!
16.01.2022 #RecipeOfTheWeek Love chocolate cake? Love an easy recipe? Hate too much washing up? Then give this easy chocolate cake a whirl. Iced or not it will become a favourite very quickly. Perfect for when you need a cake at the last minute!
13.01.2022 Have no fear, #RecipeOfTheWeek is here! Party food doesn’t get any easier than this. The combination of sweet butternut pumpkin, salty feta and then the crunch of puff pastry will be a crowd pleaser for sure. A #vegan version can be made using Sheese Australia's Greek Style Sheese. You can serve them with a dipping sauce or enjoy them just as they are. They are good hot, warm or cold. ... Don't forget to experiment a bit with some complimenting flavours. A few shakes of Italian herbs or chilli on the pumpkin would be nice or even some chopped sun dried tomatoes would go well with both the feta and pumpkin. Most of all enjoy!
12.01.2022 Please help us support our community by purchasing some of our products. The more we sell the more we can achieve! Available from Bendigo Bank at Ettalong Beach.
11.01.2022 We love the Clown Doctors! This week we donated some beautiful handmade rugs to Tricia, who fundraises for The Humour Foundation's Clown Doctors Program. These rugs will be sold or raffled to raise much-needed funds to allow the Clown Doctors to continue to bring laughter and joy where it is least expected, but most needed. Tricia will be holding a stall at Mingara Recreation Club next Thursday the 29th of October with funds raised supporting the work of the Clown Doctors. And we all know we could use a good laugh at the moment! If you find yourself in the area, stop by and say hello. There will also be EFTPOS facilities available to contactless payments and donations.
11.01.2022 It's a great day to celebrate! Today is International Day of People with Disability - Australia! We join in celebrating the amazing achievements and contributions of the 4.4 million Australians living with disability. As a branch we are very proud to have members with disability. The wonderful skills, diverse experience and community spirit they bring is definitely something to be celebrated! ... On a day like today, it is also important to remember that not all disabilities are visible. Be kind to those around you as you never know what they are facing. #IDPWD #IDPWD2020
10.01.2022 We are so fortunate to have a supportive local paper. Thank you Coast Community News for helping us help the community with Central Coast Disaster Relief - CCDR #CCDisasterRelief
10.01.2022 Today we have some good news and bad news. The bad news is that you will have to wait until tomorrow for the #RecipeOfTheWeek. The good news is, this is because today needs to be all about the people that have helped us with our latest callout. They definitely got us out of a pickle!... In no particular order we wholeheartedly thank Archie Denning from Twenty Ninth Street Studio for his monetary donation to enable us to purchase the jars we needed. A true local - even though he lives away from his home town he still wanted to support us. Many thanks also to other generous locals. Husband and wife team Karlie and Anthony from Woy Woy Mechanical donated the money for us to buy a full set of laser toner cartridges for our printer. This will be great for the new jar labels! Another very kind monetary donation from a lovely family that helped buy even more jars. Vanessa Cottle we thank you and your family for your continued support. Last but not least we need to thank Richard (pictured below) and his team from Cospak in Newcastle. Not only did Richard suggest a cheaper jar and went out of his way to make sure we got what we needed, he even delivered them today free of charge. So many people give generously of their time, expertise, money and support which makes life that little bit easier and joyful. Because we got this support we can now make preserves, jams and pickles to sell to the community to help raise much needed funds and hopefully some of our product will grace your Holiday table. If you can't get to Bendigo Bank in Ettalong to purchase them please feel free to come to the hall on any Wednesday from 9 unit 1pm. We have eftpos available for contactless payment. Not related to this topic but we can't not mention the extremely generous donation that a lovely lady dropped off to us on Wednesday after hearing our President Jane talk about the Elsie’s Retreat Project with Scott Levi from ABC Central Coast. She wants to remain anonymous and we respect her decision so we won't mention her name but you touched our hearts and we thank you.
09.01.2022 #RecipeOfTheWeek Finger food for the footy or to add to your weekly dinner repertoire, these easy chicken muffins are sure to be a hit served with dipping sauce or a fresh crisp salad. Also a great option for school lunch boxes, or afternoon tea. Perfect warm, or cold! Want to spice it up a bit? Why not throw in a packet of Mexican seasoning instead of the flour or try adding a few of your favourite herbs and spices. Don't be a chicken - experiment with some different flavours!

05.01.2022 It was our pleasure to once again give so much to Central Coast Disaster Relief - CCDR to help them continue the great work they do. We are still in need on a weekly basis of food items for snack packs and hampers as the current situation for many is worsening due to job losses and reduced working hours. We have also started a donation drive of new toys and gifts for the whole family so that we can try to make Christmas special for as many families as possible. ... We keep saying it and again we will. If it wasn't for the unwavering generosity and support of so many people on the central coast we wouldn't be able to help so many families. We often think that our small contribution won't make a difference but when a lot of people give a little we end up with a lot. We wish we could thank you all personally for your support and generosity. Let's continue to make the Central Coast the best place on earth. *Any donations can be dropped off to us at our hall, 30 The Boulevarde Woy Woy on any wednesday from 9am until 12pm. Entry via Brickwharf Rd due to Wharf upgrade works.
03.01.2022 After heatwave conditions of the past few days it was a pleasure to meet with two ladies from Red Cross today and hand over 68 cooling neck ties for them distribute to vulnerable residents in our community.
02.01.2022 Today we held our branch AGM. All positions are filled! Sadly we had to forego our usual group photo and badge presentation due to COVID-19 guidelines, but it was a wonderful morning nonetheless. Congratulations to our new and returning office bearers. Here's to another wonderful year ahead! Special thanks to Barbara of Terrigal Evening Branch of CWA in NSW for chairing our AGM again this year. It's always a pleasure to have you with us!
02.01.2022 #RecipeOfTheWeek Summer is always reminiscent of crisp cucumbers. If you grew up with a parent or grandparent that loved to pickle and make preserves then you may have had these before. They are also known as bread and butter cucumbers. If you prefer telegraph, apple or normal green cucumbers the recipe is the same. You don't have to use all of the herbs and spices listed, they are a guide. If you only have white vinegar that's ok too. NOTE: If you are not eating your pickl...ed cucumbers straight away then you will need to sterilise some jars. The easiest way to do this is wash and rinse your jar and place them in a 160C pre-heated oven one for at least 20 minutes. If the lids have an internal plastic coating don't put these in the oven but wash in hot water and let dry. If doing these for the weekly dinner they can be put into any container and stored in the fridge until finished. See more
01.01.2022 With so many donations of baby and children's clothes recently, we were able to deliver this trailer load to We Care Connect today. They work tirelessly to clothe and look after many families on the Central coast and it is our pleasure to help them when we can. ... They are now in need of Christmas trees. So if you are planning on replacing your older one feel free to drop it to us at our hall on any wednesday between 9am and 1pm so that we can get Santas elves to deliver them before Christmas
