23.01.2022 Great event, organised by a group with excellent community connections and lots of drive. Well done everyone!

23.01.2022 Our butterflies keep flying..... Another two surveys done at Brisbane Forest Park, Toowong (on south side of the Freeway) and on Land for Wildlife properties in Fig Tree Pocket. The latter yielded the largest species number of butterflies so far. The overall numbers are growing. Let's see what further comprehensive surveys across town bring, especially when additional habitat types will be investigated. One thing is already clear, surveys are fun and highly interesting. We all learn a lot when doing it. A great time was had by some of our children this past week, when ABC came to film segments for their 'Behind the news' program.

22.01.2022 We invite everyone to join the Burns Parade Buschare Community Planting coming up on Sunday, 11 of October at Akuna st, Kenmore!!

22.01.2022 CWCN Holiday Activity: Your very own Nature Diary. Sketched, Written and Collected. This is a wonderful activity combining nature with reflection. It will engage children through observing, experiencing and capturing the moment. It will allow them to absorb at their own pace, to express what they see and feel in their very personal way. The activity is tailored so that it enables younger and older children to have approaches appropriate to their age.... Who: Prep to primary school age - When : 9:30am to 12:00pm - Where: Biami Yumba Park, end of Fig Tree Pocket Rod, Fig Tree Pocket - More information and the registration form can be found in our flyer: http://cwcn.org.au//CWCN_School_Hol._Flyer_Spring_2020_fin See more

22.01.2022 CWCN will join forces with Brisbane Catchments Network and host the launch of the much anticipated BRISBANE'S BIG BUTTERFLY COUNT. Watch this space for more information.

21.01.2022 Great initiative by THECA and an event which has established itself well in the environmental and local art calendar.

21.01.2022 We look forward to welcoming you! Please RSVP for catering and our COVID-safe plan.

20.01.2022 Busy Sunday with Merri Merri Park Bushcare Group What an achievement! 650 trees, shrubs and ground covers were planted in three different areas along Greenford Street moving the work of the group forward in big leaps. The work was made possible thanks to an Environment Grant from the Australian Government and involved the removal or treatment of weed species on site. BCC's Habitat Brisbane Program - as always - supported the project. On the day local residents came to join t...he planting, and Habitat Brisbane, Brisbane Bushcare and CWCN were on site to support the event. Special thanks go to Ross and Dorothy Muller and the wonderful team of Merri Merri Park Bushcare Group volunteers. The results are brilliant and will further enhance the wildlife movement corridor between Mt Coot-tha and the Brisbane River. Photos: Maria Miller and Jutta Godwin See more

18.01.2022 Bringing back the Richmond birdwing butterfly - Great workshop had at CWCN today. Richard Bull, entomologist and Richmond Birdwing expert with many years of experience in the recovery of the threatened butterfly and the raising and establishing of its larval host plants generously shared his immense knowledge. Nursery volunteers and rehabilitators received invaluable advice. Thank you so much, Richard. Your support, as always, is highly appreciated. And quite a few mature plants nurtured by CWCN's wonderful nursery team are about to receive a new home. CWCN gratefully acknowledges funding received through the Queensland Government's Community Sustainability Action Grant - Threatened Species. Photos: Maria Miller and Jutta Godwin

18.01.2022 Brilliant work done today at Little Gubberley Creek at the site of Kenmore South Creek Care. A big thank you has to go to the indefatigable Anna Hall for pulling it all together and constantly coming up with new ideas on how to keep the group fresh and motivated and young!

14.01.2022 More from yesterday's Kenmore South Creek Care Event Nothing like enthusing the next generation about the value of healthy habitats. Photos: Jutta Godwin

13.01.2022 A great creative morning was had by all kids at the CWCN Centre yesterday. The sun painted (with the help of imaginative kids) and lots of material was provided and found and woven into into their very own piece of art. Images: Shelley Walton and Jutta Godwin

13.01.2022 Our first school holiday activity is approaching and filling up fast. For flyer and registration form click on http://cwcn.org.au//CWCN_School_Hol._Flyer_Spring_2020_fin

13.01.2022 CWCN Holiday Activity tomorrow. What happened back then? A few years ago a group of friends met regularly in their tree house above Cubberla Creek. They had a great time, sitting and enjoying themselves while also observing the creek and its surrounds.until one day something happened.. But what? Let’s retrace their steps, find out more as we walk along the creek. We are kept in suspense as we gradually obtain information and finally understand the entire story, and know whether their friendship survives. This is as much about friendship as it is about nature and the creek. Who: Best for mid primary school age. Details and registration form available on http://cwcn.org.au//CWCN_School_Hol._Flyer_Spring_2020_fin

11.01.2022 Butterflies on Mt Coot-tha Lots of questions were asked by tourists about the abundance of butterflies everywhere in Brisbane. The Caper Whites were migrating, and everyone had seen them. The flyer issued by Brisbane's Big Butterfly Count was distributed and used by many visitors checking out the surrounds of the summit area and the walking trails. The butterfly survey, guided by Justin Cappadonna, yielded a total of 15 different species with, of course our travellers Caper... White and Blue Tiger among them, but also among them a substantial number of the Clearwing Swallowtail or Big Greasy (Cressida cressida). Obviously there are sufficient host plants about on Mt Coot-tha, however, Aristolochia meridionalis vines were not abundant where we were. Maria observed a female trying to find enough biomass to lay her eggs on. We wondered about backburning patterns and recovery chances of the larval host plant. See more

05.01.2022 Check this out. Partially filmed alongside Cubberla Creek. Great little educational tool on butterfly migration, and some of our kids feature too.

04.01.2022 More from CWCN's holiday activities... What a great group of children. They were keen to learn how to use binoculars and how to catch butterflies and other insects. They were great at observing and discovery of even the tiniest of creatures, not to mention the waterfowl at the lagoon: ducks, ibis, swamp and moorhens and, of course, the Royal spoonbill (see separate video). Catching was a highlight, plenty of mini blues, spiders, a day-flying moth and even a damselfly. The children were also great at reflection and writing and drawing their impressions. They followed the trail of friends from years ago, locating treasures and figuring out what happened to their treasures, their cubby house .... The attending adults Maria, Judy and Jutta had as much fun as the children did. Photos: Maria Miller and Jutta Godwin

02.01.2022 Did you know that? If you are interested in learning more about our butterflies and want to participate in surveying them, contact CWCN or the organisers of Brisbane's Big Butterfly Count.

02.01.2022 Nothing better during CWCN's holiday activities than observing something really special. The Royal Spoonbill explored the lagoon for food all morning.

01.01.2022 What butterfly is that? Everyone counts. Why not download BioCollect onto your smart device. It's a free app and can be found at Google Play or the Apple Store.... It makes participating in Brisbane's Big Butterfly Count easy! 31 common butterfly species are depicted, so identification is made easy. Mark your location, mark the butterflies (and their quantity) and submit. We can't wait to find out which one of our butterflies is seen the most. Great engagement for the entire family! 01.01.2022 We invite everyone to join the Burns Parade Buschare Community Planting coming up this Sunday 20 of September at Akuna st, Kenmore!!
