25.01.2022 Not all of us are expected to die a martyr's death, but we are all called to the pursuit of Christian virtue. This demands strength of character though it may not match that of this innocent girl. Still, a constant, persistent and relentless effort is asked of us right up to the moment of our death. This may be conceived as a slow steady martyrdom which Christ urged upon us when he said: The kingdom of heaven is set upon and laid waste by violent forces. So let us all, with God's grace, strive to reach the goal that the example of the virgin martyr, Saint Maria Goretti, sets before us. Through her prayers to the Redeemer may all of us, each in his own way, joyfully try to follow the inspiring example of Maria Goretti who now enjoys eternal happiness in heaven.... Pope Pius XII

25.01.2022 18 speakers, over three hours, discussed the important topic, Root Causes of Trafficking in Persons: Key Role of the Family for Protection and Prevention, at #C...SW61 today. The event was hosted by the Group of Friends of the Family (a coalition of 25 UN Member States), together with civil society organisations (including Center for Family and Human Rights - C-Fam). Among the speakers were His Excellency Frederick Musiiwa Makamure Shava, President of the UN's Economic and Social Council; Jennifer Lahl, President and Founder of The Center for Bioethics and Culture Network; Fr Shenan Boquet of Human Life International and Valerie Huber, President of Ascend (www.weascend.org). Fox News contributor and columnist Mercedes Schlapp moderated the event. During one of the panels, Jen Spry shared her harrowing experience of being trafficked as a child. Having survived, she is now 'a voice for the voiceless' and a passionate advocate for providing law enforcement and boundary training to help prevent child sex trafficking (www.jenspry.org). Vednita Carter also shared her experience of being a high school graduate trafficked in a strip club in Minneapolis. She is the founder of Breaking Free, a place for women to find safety and refuge: www.breakingfree.net

24.01.2022 Start by doing what is necessary, then what is possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible - St. Francis of Assisi

20.01.2022 Although Pope Francis comments on climate change have dominated the headlines in recent days, many are unaware that his new encyclical, Laudato Si, also addressed another controversial topic: Gender Theory.

12.01.2022 "Christ who died and rose for us is really present in the Holy Eucharist. In the consecrated Bread and Wine, the same Jesus of the Gospels remains with us whom the disciples met and followed, whom they saw crucified and risen, whose wounds Thomas touched, exclaiming prostrate in adoration: 'My Lord and my God!' (Jn 20,28) (cf. ibid., 17-20)." St John Paul II (Image by Fr Lawrence Lew OP: www.flickr.com/photos/paullew)

11.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who joined us this week for the 48th National CWLA conference. We truly appreciate your support <3

11.01.2022 "We may face the legalised redefinition of marriage in this country in the near future... By reading commentaries by others who are currently going through this, we might discover someones response which seems to most aptly speak the truth in love, and mimic that if our time comes. Similarly, we might also find comments from Catholics which, however well-intentioned, do not do this well, and we might avoid making the same mistakes." A few quick suggestions from Catholic Talk's Monica Doumit on how Australian Catholics might respond...

10.01.2022 In the debate over same-sex marriage a major issue is a childs right to be raised by a mother and a father, his biological mother and father wherever possible, as stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

09.01.2022 Bishop Barron talks about marriage and relationships. In a sacramental marriage, Gods love becomes present to the spouses in their total union. A married couple must always be dependent upon God in all things. For more visit www.wordonfire.org

09.01.2022 "Impart to your servants, we pray, O Lord, the gift of heavenly grace, that the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin may bring deeper peace to those for whom the birth of her Son was the dawning of salvation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever." Collect, 8 September 2015

09.01.2022 "Today we contemplate the Most Holy #Trinity as Jesus introduced us to it. He revealed to us that God is love 'not in the oneness of a single Person, but in the Trinity of one substance' (Preface). He is the Creator and merciful Father; he is the Only-Begotten Son, eternal Wisdom incarnate, who died and rose for us; he is the Holy Spirit who moves all things, cosmos and history, toward their final, full recapitulation. Three Persons who are one God because the Father is love, the Son is love, the Spirit is love." Pope Benedict XVI This painting of the Trinity, represented as a 'Mercy Seat' is found in the refectory of Santa Sabina in Rome. (Image by Fr Lawrence Lew OP: www.flickr.com/photos/paullew)

08.01.2022 Almighty God, deepen in our hearts our love of Mary Help of Christians. Through her prayers and under her protection, may the light of Christ shine over our land. May Australia be granted harmony, justice and peace. Grant wisdom to our leaders and integrity to our citizens. We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

08.01.2022 Over the past few weeks, Catholic schools have distributed the Bishops' Pastoral Letter on marriage. The reaction has been extraordinary! Another great blog by Monica Doumit, a Catholic Talk contributor...

07.01.2022 Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP will give a lecture on the importance of marriage and family in contemporary society on 22 July in a special event facilitated by the Order of Malta.

07.01.2022 "It is disappointingly predictable that the media in Australia is obsessed by a slim majority activist US Supreme Court decision. At the same time there have been no reports of an elected representative vote in another country of 110-26 against same-sex marriage. ... Most people in a democracy believe social policy should be determined by the people, not by dubious interpretation by an activist judiciary. ... Study after study, time and time again, shows that children benefit from having a father and mother. That is the foundation that marriage provides, and has provided for millennia. The institution of marriage has stood the test of time. For our children's sake it needs to continue to do so." Eric Abetz

07.01.2022 Your voice is needed now to preserve marriage.

Cardinal George Pell In his recent address at the Fota VIII International Liturgy Conference in Cork, Cardinal Pell summed up the issues facing post-Christian societies following recent votes for same-sex marriage around the world. 04.01.2022 "Of the billions of dollars that have been spent on reproductive health programs, only a fraction of the funding has been spent on prenatal and obstetric care. As pointed out by MaterCare International, an organization devoted to promoting maternal health care in developing nations, we are all familiar with crimes of commission against women in these countries sexual assault, genital mutilation, torture but the extreme neglect that mothers face as a result of insufficient maternal care is just as deadly."
