24.01.2022 Current restrictions make it difficult to celebrate National Volunteer Week from 18-24 May 2020 with our colleagues, so Coast Watch Ocean Grove would like to extend its thanks and appreciation to all the volunteers in our community, especially to those in the Marine Search and Rescue units around Australia. This year’s theme Changing Communities Changing Lives is very relevant to those MSAR volunteers who give their time, energy and expertise to help others who need help on our waterways and oceans. To the members of Coast Watch Ocean Grove, we say a very big THANK YOU for all that you do and we look forward to the time we can resume our full range of activities.
19.01.2022 Hopefully Ocean Grove boat ramp will eventually be included.
17.01.2022 Christmas greetings to all of our volunteers, friends and supporters. Enjoy yourself on and near the water over the holidays and we will see you all next year.
14.01.2022 Update: Temporary repairs during the week mean that the downstream pontoon is back in service but further work is required. In the meantime the upstream pontoon is available, so you can still launch and retrieve your vessel. More problems at the Ocean Grove boat ramp. Having just fixed the walkway and railing to the upstream pontoon, the south side now has a major problem. The loose piles have given way and the pontoon is now out of action. No word yet on how long it will take to repair but will can still launch and retrieve our rescue vessel if needed.
14.01.2022 Fire aboard a vessel at sea is always dangerous, and as these dramatic photos show, it can take hold and burn it to the water line in no time. Well done to the Redcliffe Coast Guard and QFES crews and the radio operator for their rapid response that saved the 2 people on board.
13.01.2022 Saturday 5 December 2020 is International Volunteers Day and Coast Watch took the opportunity to thank all our volunteer members and their families by having a BBQ at our headquarters on Friday night. 2020 has been challenging for all of us, especially with the Covid-19 pandemic thrown in, but we have battled through and emerged stronger and more united than ever. Thank you one and all for your enthusiasm and continued support. You have certainly shown the true spirit of volunteerism.
13.01.2022 No better example of the benefits of having an EPIRB or PLB on board whenever or wherever you go boating. Apparently an Esky is also handy!
13.01.2022 It will be very interesting to see the results of these trials.
12.01.2022 The Victorian Government has announced that under the new Covid-19 directions, recreational boating and fishing is now permissible from 13 May 2020. Physical distancing (1.5 metre distance) and mass gathering rules (max of 10 people in a group) continue to apply at all times including at the boat ramp and on your boat. Go to the Dept of Health & Human Services website for details. As always, Victorians are being asked to be considered and use common sense when it comes their activities. We are all being asked to make sacrifices in order to save lives so you should only leave home if you really need to. Please check your boat, especially the fuel, battery and safety equipment before you head out, study the weather forecast and let someone know where you are going and when you will be back.
11.01.2022 Coast Watch are always ready to jump into gear and respond to an emergency call out. #oceangrove #coastwatch3226 #volunteers #marinevolunteers #surfcoast
11.01.2022 Great result and confirmation that PLBs do save lives.
11.01.2022 It is with much sadness that we note the recent passing of Dave Renton, who was one of our members. Dave was an Ocean Grove legend who contributed so much to our community and he will be greatly missed. As well as his membership of Coast Watch, Dave notched up 54 years of continuous patrol service with the Ocean Grove Surf Lifesaving Club, 12 years as Vice President of the Disabled Surfers Association and was a founding member of the Bellarine Paddlers group in 2015. We extend our deepest sympathy to his wife Lorraine, his family and his many friends. Farewell Dave, fair winds and following seas.
10.01.2022 This footage from a rescue in the U.K. clearly shows how a life jacket and a means of communication can save your life at sea. Well done RNLI. (Remember to turn the sound on.)
09.01.2022 When your EPIRB or PLB reaches the end of its service life please make sure that you dispose of it in the proper manner and notify AMSA to cancel its registration.
05.01.2022 When properly used, EPIRBS and other distress beacons save lives. But, as this story shows, their misuse and neglect can cause an unnecessary waste of resources. Deregister and decommission your beacons when they are no longer needed or have expired.
03.01.2022 Follow the link below to the Fishing Australia.tv blog to read the story of how an EPIRB saved a fisherman's life.
02.01.2022 A timely reminder during National Safe Boating Week 26 September to 2 October 2020. Before you head out on the water, check that all the required safety equipment is on board, in good condition and within easy reach.
02.01.2022 Great news for Marine Rescue NSW and perhaps a goal for other states to aim for.
02.01.2022 Some good advice from Life Saving Victoria
