19.01.2022 One of the first principles of PCI-DSS is to not store any payment card data unless it's necessary to meet the needs of the business, however, this often is the most ignored one. While working with a Sydney based organisation, the first thing we noticed was that they had stored credit card data in physical form (paper-based records) for many years. When the bank gave them a tight deadline of 3 months to achieve PCI-DSS, the organization found itself ill-equipped and understaf...fed to achieve the desired outcome. One of the first steps CyberDots suggested was to follow the basic principles of #keeping_it_simple resulting in #risk_reduction! We helped outsource the paper-based credit card storage to a third party PCI-DSS certified storage provider. In addition, we brokered a discussion with their bank to change the flow of payments and credit card storage such that no credit card data was stored on internal databases. These two simple steps not only reduced their overall risk but also achieved PCI-DSS compliance in record time and in a very cost-effective manner.
