20.01.2022 Due to the forecasted heavy rain, we have had to make the hard decision to cancel our first session of Cyclabilities tomorrow. The safety and well-being of all families is our priority. We hope the weather will be kinder to us and we can enjoy moving, cycling, safety and fun next Saturday. Please note, WaterAbilities is still running due to inside options. Stay safe and dry

18.01.2022 We are so fortunate that Dr Emma Goodall was part of two panel discussions at our recent AWETISM 2020 Virtual Expo, including our forum for parents & carers in ...which she offered this reassurance: "As parents, you make decisions with the knowledge that you've got on the day that you make that decision in conjunction with your child. All parents make mistakes. All kids make mistakes. It's okay to make mistakes. Love is the most important thing - loving, accepting, valuing, respecting." 15.01.2022 In the third phase of the #KnowYourNeighbour campaign, we are reaching out to local community organisations doing their bit to make a world of difference in the... community. WINNER of the Hesta Excellence Awards in Allied Health 2020 for Outstanding Organisation, Cyclabilities initially began as a way to help children develop cycling and pedestrian safety skills. The idea was an amazing success and has led to more programs like Waterabilities. Recreational skills can be difficult to master for people with disabilities. Breaking skills into small, achievable goals and celebrating each accomplishment builds self-esteem and confidence. Every effort is acknowledged for each person’s abilities, and each Cyclabilities programs lead to success thanks to their team of Allied Health professionals. President Carol tells us that the program has supported over 100 families this year. She says that cycling/swimming is the tool that allows families to spend some quality time with their children. At Waterabilities, parents get in the pool with their child and with Cyclabilities parents help with cycling which means for that hour, they are totally focused and having fun. Cyclabilities’ newest program, Waterabilities has been a smashing success! Carol said. One parent said that in just four weeks in Waterabilities their child had learned more than they had the whole of the previous year! Registrations are now open for next year in Belconnen, register here - https://cyclabilities.com.au/register #TheCRCSFamily

Today and throughout the month we’re collectively sharing this message through #21YourWay, a national fundraising and awareness campaign being held for the very first time. Let’s get celebrating! Keep an eye out for some inspiring videos and posts at the #21YourWay hashtag. Visit www.21YourWay.com.au.

07.01.2022 The excitement definitely wasn't small on Saturday at Cyclabiltiies. There were so many amazing achievements and all equally special, real and of value. We are super proud of you all. We would also like to thank Anna for coming out to Cyclabilities to say hello. It was lovely to meet you and have you come along. AMAZING and so very special.

06.01.2022 FREE STUFF!! It would appear that for what ever reason everyone in Canberra has either: Received a new bike for Xmas or Is stuck at home because of this stupid... coronavirus cleaning up and decided to donate their old one to TGS:) Regardless of the reason we have approximately 1 bazillion bikes at our sheds and expect to receive a bazillion more this weekend! We have decided to try giving them away for free so the ones we have don’t get recycled and turned into $8 toasters and come back to us again! Here’s the deal. For this weekend only, all bikes in our outside yards are free! We have decided not to place any limits on what people can take but do ask that people play fair and be considerate to others. In other words dont be a dick, turn up with a truck and try and take all of them at 730 on Saturday morning as we will not let this happen! We have plenty to go around so lets share the love peeps:) EDIT: looking at the huge response to this post we just want to make it clear that 90% of these bikes need at least some small fixes to make them useful again! Lots of good parts, lots of good bikes that need minor mechanical repairs but very very few that you would be able to ride away:) just dont want people thinking they are likely to score themselves a perfect bike they can just ride away with no work:) EDIT: Saturday Good morning crazy Bicycle mad Canberra:) For what ever reason it would appear the stars have aligned for our bike give away! For anyone planning to visit today the pickings are very slim at both sites with most of the bikes ( including or priced ones inside) disappearing in the first hour or so! We have decided for those that missed out we will be putting all the freshly donated ones into the yard at 730 in the morning. Same rules apply but if you have already scored a bike let someone else have a turn. Numbers will be limited to what comes in today. So be quick and play nice.

06.01.2022 Cyclabilities is please to announce ArtAbiliites! Commencing in term 4, this new and exciting program is to discover and explore identity for 9-13 year olds! 06.01.2022 Canberra has turned yellow in recognition of National Road Safety Week. Have you taken the pledge to ‘drive so others survive’? National Road Safety Week runs... from 15 - 22 November, in honour of the 1,200 lives lost and 44,000 seriously injured on Australian roads each year. Set an example for others and: Drive as if your loved ones are on the road ahead. Remove all distractions and never use your mobile phone while driving. Do not put others at risk by speeding, driving while tired, or drink- or drug-driving. Protect all vulnerable road users, especially those whose job places them in harm’s way, by slowing down and giving them the space to be safe. Park safely and legally this supports the visibility as well as accessibility for all road users and pedestrians. Check to ensure your car isn’t impacted by faulty Takata airbags, and if it is replace immediately - search: ismyairbagsafe.com.au Don’t forget to show your respect for all workers who are supporting road safety including parking inspectors, mobile speed van operators, public transport officers and ACT Policing. Head to roadsafetyweek.com.au to take the pledge. #NationalRoadSafetyWeek 2020 #drivesos Produced by Transport Canberra and City Services
