20.01.2022 Hi all. I've been missing in action for a few weeks due to sickness. After much reflection I've decided to longer hold group training sessions due in part to work and study commitments. These may resume in the future if time (and demand) permits. I will still be available for 1 on 1 coaching and contactable here. Thank you to those who supported me in the past. Pete.

19.01.2022 Video of last night's track training at the velodrome.

19.01.2022 Day 2 of testing muscle recruitment during pedalling. I had motion capture sensors attached to my leg, electrical impulse sensors to several muscles and an ultrasound recording of my TFL. I then pedalled at specific cadence under load while recordings were done.

15.01.2022 Hi all. I took part in a study today at St Lucia UQ on muscle recruitment during different intensities during cycling. It is fascinating. They are looking for more cyclists to take part. The test is done over 2 days and takesabout1.5 hours. Day 1 is base line testing, day 2 is motion capture, ultrasound recording and electrical impulse recording. You will get an idea of what muscles you use when cycling and how well you can go. It's very cool! If you're interested in taking part in the study, the fellow's number is 0423267638, Cristian Matthey. Let him know i sent you. Cheers, Pete

05.01.2022 I often see cyclist with posture issue's and when i ask them if they have pain when they ride the answer is always yes. I can then go onto tell them where they get the pain and what sought of pain it is, to which I'm invariably right. Aside from poor bike fit, the issue is awareness and core strength. Predominately the bad posture is in the upper back (thoracic region) which most commonly is curved like a C, The next area is the elbows which are normally locked straight with ...the pointy part (Olecranon process) pointing at the side of the road. This in turn pushes the shoulders up around the ears and increases the extension of the neck. This position will lead to very stiff shoulders and neck, headaches and tension in the lower back. Whilst massage can help (see my other page, @peterbuggyremedialmassge) the long term solution is to correct the the posture with awareness and some strength training. First we want to see a nice flat back, which can be achieved by being 'chest proud'. That is pushing the chest into the natural forward position by pulling the shoulders back. Imagine you are holding a $50 note between your shoulder blades. Second is to roll the elbows (the pointy bits) down so they are pointing at the road (always). This will have a two fold effect of softening the elbows so they can act as suspension when you hit bumps and also lower the shoulders down from your ears. This combination will help lengthen your spine which in turn will extend your neck , easing the pain and extending your vision. The base of maintaining this posture is then introducing CORE STRENGTH EXERCISE (more on that to come) which will establish the foundation to make you a better cyclist. If you would like help with any cycling skills, I am available for lessons. Cheers, Pete. (image from guidelineshealth.com) See more

04.01.2022 https://www.ilovebicycling.com/the-benefits-of-cycling-for/ Pinched this from the above website (which is always a good read). Many studies have found the same thing when it comes to exercise and mental health over the years. Remember to be good to yourself and it's ok to not be ok. Cheers, Pete.
