24.01.2022 The Globe Derby underpass has been an issue for over 2 years. This is a major BARRIER for physical recreation and exercise (cycling/running/walking/bird watching)...in SAFELY linking Mawson Lakes to Salisbury (via the Dry Creek Trail and then Little Para River Trail ) and now once completed, the Northern Connector Shared use path...Mawson Lakes to Gawler. Cyclists - More confident riders can ride through the water (when low enough) - although it is sea water and therefore not... good for bike equipment. (and there are often rocks in the water) Walkers / Runners - would ruin their shoes walking in sea water. It is an Access & Inclusion issue that stops / prevents anyone with mobility issues enjoying our wetlands and paths. It is also not good for tourists trying to enjoy the trails from the nearby Watershed function centre. On enquiry, the response from council (City Infrastructure department) is that the preference is to drain the underpass, as there is reportedly not the (officially) required height clearance to make the rough path above the underpass a safe concrete path option with railings. (People use the goat track that is there but it is a rough path and there is no rail there to stop someone falling in if they overbalance with their bike or stumble if they are walking) You need to be agile and confident. It is not safe for anyone with mobility issues. Apparently the pumping fix is waiting for some electrical work to be done which has been contracted out...but we are still waiting after two years. It is a dilemma when leading riding groupswhether to take them : (a) through the underpass where currently the water can damage equipment (b) via the goat path above the underpass (that is awkward/potentially dangerous to access/exit on the Globe Derby side re the slope) (c) Cross Pt Wakefield Rd via the lights on Globe Derby drive (Note : There are No lights from Mawson Lakes side) The lights dont stay red for that long (you hope people are quick off the mark to start pedalling and that there are no free laneswhere drivers doing 90/80 km/h might come barrelling through) Please note that there are cyclists willing to meet councillors on site to physically show our concerns. 13.01.2022 Checked out the new underpass off the Tapa Martinthi Yala today which takes you under the Northern Connector to the salt pans, mangroves and St Kilda. Looks like it might stay a little dryer than other underpasses nearby
13.01.2022 Posted on behalf of Rhonda Whyatt Are you a Rubbish Rider ? Tapa Marinthi Yala & The Road Watch Adopt-A-Road program No one likes seeing rubbish lying around and spoiling where we ride.... One of our regular Cycle Salisbury riders Rhonda Whyatt has noticed a lot of rubbish collecting along the new Tapa Marinthi Yala Shared Use Path, coming mainly from the Northern Connector roadway. Rather than just whinge about it, Rhonda has decided to do something about itand is asking you to consider joining her. The Road Watch Adopt-A-Road program was introduced in 1996 as a joint initiative between KESAB and the Department of Planning Transport and Infrastructure to encourage greater community participation in roadside care. Roads are an important shop-front in presenting SA to visitors from interstate and overseas, and road litter, in particular, is bad for business and the tourist experience. Litter can damage fragile roadside environments, many of which contain rare and threatened species. Litter travels the storm water system to pollute rivers, creeks and oceans, causing harm to all forms of marine life. Rhonda & helpers already ‘signed up’ are looking to do an occasional clean up of the Southern section of the Tapa (3km) why not come and join us ? For more information or to register your interest, contact Rhonda or 0407 839 938 [email protected] http://www.kesab.asn.au/programs/road-watch/

10.01.2022 3 of us braved the weather conditions Sun morning for the Semaphore Sojourn ride to Pt Adelaide. We had sunshine on the way to the Port but had a 5 minute shower on our way back to the start. Nigel
09.01.2022 Unfortunately due to another stormy weather forecast for tomorrow (wind, rain and possible hail!) we have decided to cancel the scheduled Para District Pedalers ride tomorrow (Sat 20th). Apologies but safety first.
